Chapter Thirty One.
Chapter Thirty One.
Alena had picture this moment many times over the past few weeks and she hadn't been wrong when she pictured Tabitha destroying her. She had feared this moment for so long that now that it was happening she felt a weird feeling of content as she surrendered herself to Tabitha.
She knew that from the very beginning that she should have surrender herself to Tabitha that would have made everything easier. She realised that no one would had had to had died because of her, no one would have had to get injured or fight if she had just done the right thing in the beginning and run away from those that vowed to protect her. She had promised herself that she would fight and she had fought for those around her, she had managed to save Lucy in the process and now she felt at ease with herself.
The headache was increasing and she briefly wondered if she would soon pass out from the pressure on her brain. The wound on her back was burning the entire surface and she knew that if she didn't pass out soon from the headache then she would pass out from blood lose as the warm, liquid she knew as blood continued to soak her clothes and trickle down her back.
She winced in pain as Tabitha pulled on her hair so that she was stood, the height difference between them noticeable as Tabitha continued to grip a fistful of her hair whilst resting her wrist on the top of her head mockingly. She had no energy to fight back; the strength she had found earlier had disappeared long ago leaving her feeling empty and weak.
"Come along." Tabitha spoke; she could hear the grin in her voice.
Alena stumbled in front of Tabitha as she turned them both and pushed her forwards. She risked opening her eyes to see that everyone was now watching them, the two sides began to party from each other and walk to their original sides to watch what was about to happen. She could see the sadistic smiles on the dark ones faces as they realised that they had won whilst the rogues looked as if they were smiling as well. They were all covered in blood, dirt and sweat from the fights that they had all taken part in and Alena felt her stomach churn at the sights of bodies lying on the ground, unmoving. She wasn't sure if they were dead but they most likely were.
She looked at those that had stood behind her, those that had fought alongside her when they weren't forced to. She could see their expressions clearly; some looked angry and murderous while others looked heartbroken and worried. She couldn't look on the face of her loved ones; she didn't think she would be able to cope with seeing their faces as they watched her die.
Death. It was strange to think that she had feared death but now that she was facing it she wasn't scared or frightened as she thought she would be, she was clam. She knew that the end was soon, the suffering she had been through and the pain that she had caused others would soon be over and everything would fall into place as it should. She had no doubt that Tabitha was about to take her heart from her body and claim her powers which would make the decision down to her.
She remembered the nightmare that she had had when she found out about her being the prophecy. She had seen what the world would become if she would chose wrongly, she had seen how dark and cruel the world would become and she briefly wonders if Tabitha would turn the world in the same place but knew better than to think Tabitha was anything like her. She knew that Tabitha was after the power, the respect and greed and knew that she would do everything in her power to get that but she wouldn't enslave anyone. Tabitha would allow everyone to run free whilst the dark ones terrorised the human population all the while she would laugh and watch. The world was about to become a dark place but it wouldn't be as dark as it would be if she was to choose wrongly.
"Smile guys," Tabitha spoke cheerily as they stopped directly in between the two sides, her grip on Alena hair never loosening as she turned in a circle to show everyone that she had won, "today is a day that will go down in the history books the day that the dark ones took over."
"Let her go," Samuel snarled. She looked to see that Frank and one of his uncles were holding him back while they stood in their human forms, dressed in only a pair of shorts as they glared at Tabitha.
She closed her eyes, unable to see the heartbroken expression on Samuel's face as he fought against the hold his dad and uncle had on him. She had seen the pain in his chocolate eyes, the self-loathing as he blamed himself for the situation she was in, she had seen the anger he felt for Tabitha and those that stood at her side for hurting her.
She wished that she had a chance to say goodbye to Samuel properly, to say good bye to everyone that he protected her. She would have told Samuel how much she loved him, how happy she was in the time that they had spent together and just how much she would miss him. As much as it would have killed her to say she would have begged him to move on, to find another to mark and mate with and make her Luna. She just wanted him to happy and if that meant meeting some one knew she would encourage it.
"No," a gasp could be heard as she opened her eyes to see that her mum was stood at the front of the crowd, Darius was holding her back whilst her hand was brought to her trembling lips, tears rolling down her cheeks as she took in the state of her daughter, "Alena."
"It's okay mum, I'm okay." She whispered, her voice was horse and cracked towards the end as she tried to fight make tears of her own.
"Well isn't this heart-warming." Tabitha sneered in her ear whilst she shut her eyes whilst wincing. Her head felt as if it was about to explode, the pain she felt was quickly becoming unbearable and with the grip that Tabitha had on her hair she was surprised that she hadn't passed out. She was waiting for the darkness to take her with open eyes. She couldn't stand to see the faces of those that she loved, her mum, Samuel, Daniel and Dean, the oracles and the entire pack, her pack that she had fallen in love with in the short space that she had known them.
"Tabitha," she heard Adaleigh address the witch that held her with venom in her voice, she could also hear the worry and pain that she tried to hide, "let her go, she's just a child.
"I'm afraid I can't do that, you of all people should know that Addy." She mocked as she tightened the grip on her hair causing a small whimpered to escape her lips. She was drowned out by a number of growls and snarls that erupted from the pack, she could easily hear Samuel's above everyone else's. He was angry and she knew that his wolf wanted to escape his control and tear Tabitha limb from limb but he couldn't in fear of what Tabitha would do.
"Let her go you crazy bitch." She opened her eyes whilst a small smile edged its way on her lips at the sound of Dean's voice. In the short time that she had known Dean she knew that he hated swearing, it was the first time she had heard him swear and although it was small she was glad that she had heard it. She would miss her protector a lot, his words of wisdom and silly nicknames that she had once hated and now she savoured it.
"Tsk, Tsk," Tabitha muttered in her ear whilst her knees began to shake as they threatened to give out on her. She could feel what strength she had left slowly leaving her body leaving her limp as she tried to remained standing, it was easing the grip that Tabitha had on her hair, "didn't you parents teach you any manners."
It happened so quickly that no one had gotten the chance to talk as Tabitha threw her on the ground; she had used her magic to make the push more forceful. She hadn't expected it and hadn't put her hands out in front of her to break the fall as she landed in a heap, the air knocked out of her as she struggled to breath she could taste blood in her mouth from where it had hit the grass floor. She screamed in pain as the pain in her back that she had thought couldn't get any worse increased tenfold. She allowed the tear that she had desperately tried to hold back fall as she struggled to breath, pain exploded through her chest.
"No!" She heard multiple peoples shout at once many of them angry whilst the others sounded heart broken.
"You really shouldn't insult me." Tabitha said. It now made sense as to why she was thrown to the floor. Dean had insulted Tabitha which had obviously gotten to her and as pay make she had suffered for their mistake. She knew that it was better that she took the beating then they did.
"I'm going to kill you." Samuel growled through the garden, as everyone fell silent at his threat. She looked up from where she was lying on the floor to see that he was glaring at Tabitha, if looks could kill she knew that Tabitha would be buried six feet under the soil. The hatred that Samuel felt for Tabitha was rolling off of him in waves, almost suffocating her where she lay on the floor.
She was proud of Samuel, she knew that he was hurting because of her and yet he was still able to keep some sort of control over his wolf that she could see was begging to be let out behind his eyes. She winced in pain as her head pulsated wildly whilst blood trickled down her chin. She didn't know why she hadn't passed out yet but she knew that she didn't have to wait long; her body was slowly shutting down. She wished that the time for her decision to be made would hurry up so that it was her who made the choice and not Tabitha. She could feel the floor underneath her vibrate as if as stampede was heading there way as she realised that Dean's pack were on their way. She felt a sense of hope bubble within her at the thought of back up, she knew that after she was gone a fight would break out and with the help of Dean's pack they were sure to win.
"You can't win Tabitha just let Alena go and we'll make you're death quick." Daniel sneered as he bared his teeth at who she guessed was Tabitha who stood right behind her. She knew that Adrian stood on her other side as she had seen his shoes when she was rolling around on the floor in agony.
"I can win," Tabitha stated, "and I will win."
"Just let Alena go." Her mum begged as she looked up through blurry eyes to see that her mum was on her knees, crying as Darius held her to him. She hated to see that her mum was seeking comfort in the arms of another man that wasn't her dad but she knew that Darius was only holding her so that she didn't do anything stupid. She knew that none of the light ones could or would use their magic as it would only take a split second for Tabitha to kill her. She was going to be killed anyway but she knew that they were all trying to figure out a way to keep her safe.
"You're all as stupid as you look." Tabitha muttered before Alena heard her walked towards her.
She closed her eyes wishing that the ground would somehow upon up and swallow her in one so that she could escape the life she lived, she wanted to escape the pain, the heart ache and the fighting. Her breathing was ragged as she struggled to breathe normally, every breath she took caused pain to flash through her chest and back. She wished that she was a werewolf so that she could have the advanced healing that they all possessed but then she wished to be nothing but herself.
She could complain about how horrible and tragic her life was as it was about to end but she couldn't. She had enjoyed the past seventeen years of her life and although the past few weeks had been the best of her life even if it had been limited. She had meet Samuel, her werewolf mate with his beautiful eyes and huge form that she loved more than she could have ever thought possible. She had become friends with Daniel and Dean her werewolf protectors who joked and made her laugh. The oracles and their husbands had become like an extended family to her in the time that they had spent together, training and learning news spells whilst her relationship with her parents had grown stronger. In the past few weeks of her life she had learnt to love, to open up and become one with who she is and she was thankful that she had gotten the chance to experience such events that not all seventeen year olds go to.
A scream of agony left her lips as someone placed their foot on her back, pressing on her open wounds igniting the burning sensation until it felt as if her whole back was on fire. A roaring noise could be heard behind her ears as she continued to scream and thrash under the persons foot. She knew that she didn't have long until she passed or that Tabitha had had enough fun with toying with her, causing her pain and suffering knowing what it would do to the pack and light ones.
She had known that Tabitha was evil, every dark one was evil, all searching for some sort of power and to be better than everyone else. She hadn't expected Tabitha to be crazy, it was clear that Tabitha had issues; she knew that the dark ones were capable of inflicting pain but she also knew that they didn't torture their victims. The oracles and her mum had explained that dark ones liked to kill and drain the power of their victims before moving on and yet Tabitha was different. She was crazy as she laughed as growls tore through the chests of many pack members, cries and protests could be heard whilst whimpers echoed around her.
"Just kill me," Alena begged as she began to cough up her own blood as is smeared down her chin and onto the grass underneath her. She had always hated how she would faint at the smallest amount of blood and now she was wishing that for once she would faint at the smallest amount of blood so that she could escape the suffering. It felt as if her lungs were slowly decreasing in size making it harder to breathe as she continued to cough up blood, the foot on her back stopping her from clutching her stomach in agony.
"Tabitha," a voice spoke above the noise. Alena turned her head to the side surprised to see that a dark one slowly approaching Tabitha with caution, her brown almost black eyes darting to her on the floor before looking back at Tabitha.
"What?" Tabitha snapped, her tone filled with annoyance at being disrupted but Alena was thankful for the dark one as Tabitha took her foot of her back and faced the girl. She curled up into a ball on her side as she began to cry hard, whimpered escaping her mouth every now and then as pain consumed every cell in her body.
She was annoyed that she had yet to pass out, the black dots in her vision would come and go and every time she thought she was close to escaping the pain they would go away. She could feel a small amount of pressure at the back of head, it wasn't like the pressure she was feeling all around her brain as it was different, she didn't know what it was and she didn't know how to explain it.
The air around them seemed to drop to impossibly cold temperatures as everyone breath turned to clouds of fog. She shivered where she lay as she looked up at the sky to see that they had darkened considerable, the clouds that had covered the sky were now a dark grey, the colour unsettling as they gathered together as one cloud directly above her. The win seemed to pick up as her hair was blown all around her not that she cared, she had long ago given up caring as she awaited her fate.
"You said you were going to simply kill her and make the decision yourself," the dark one said as she turned to see that Tabitha and the red headed girl were now stood in front of each other, glares on both of their faces as the dark ones began to flank the red head, and all were glaring at Tabitha.
"I will kill her, after I've had my fun." Tabitha grinned.
She looked around to see that the pack were slowly inching forward, she looked to see that Samuel was still being restrained as he struggled against the strong hold that Frank and his uncle had on him. She had never seen him look so distraught, not even after she had found out about what he was. His brown hair was tousled and sticking out in all different directions as his muscles visibly contracted from the strain of not shifting when it was clear he wanted to. She wanted to reach out to him, to have him hold her in his arms while he told her that everything was going to be fine, that they were fine but she knew that wasn't going to happen.
"This isn't part of the plan." The red head hissed as he stuck out her chin defiantly, the other dark ones nodding their heads in agreement.
It was clear that the dark ones had all been part of the same clan before Tabitha had gotten to them. They trusted the red head where as it was clear that they didn't trust Tabitha. She felt another flash of hope at the realisation that the dark ones were defying Tabitha, the red head and her clan were standing up against her and no doubt would soon leave the battle. She could faintly hear the sound of paws hitting the forest floor as snarl and growls that didn't belong to the pack echoed through the forest and she knew that Dean's pack were only a few minutes away.
"The plan has changed." Tabitha menaced as she reached out so fast that Alena hadn't seen what happened until it was too late. The red heads body crumpled to the floor, her brown eyes left open as she starred directly into her blues eyes, her mouth slack and her face expression. She was stunned as Tabitha walked over the girl's body as if she hadn't just broken her neck and raised her hands upwards, challenging the rest to take her on.
She could hear the outraged cries, and the many gasps from the pack and the light ones at Tabitha kill, she hadn't even batted an eyelash when she had reached up a broke the girls neck in one swift movement.
"Anyone else want to defy me?" Tabitha shouted to those that had once stood on her side.
"No?" Adrian laughed from her other side. She had forgotten he was there until he spoke; he had been silently watching the exchange between the two sides.
"Alena," Samuel spoke quietly as she titled her head to look at him. His face was strained as she met his chocolate pools, she tried to smile but she knew that it was more of a wince of pain that cause Samuel's already crumpled facial expression to turn heart breaking.
"I love you," She croaked. She needed to tell him, she needed him to know that she loved him, that she would always love him in another life. "I love you all."
"Don't say it like you're saying goodbye." He tried to sound stern but it sounded like a small whisper.
She opened her mouth to reply when a scream ripped its way through her throat as her body began to burn up. It was nothing like she had ever experienced before, it felt as if her entire body was on fire and there was no way to put out the blue flames that consumed her being. She could her above her scream the sound of people shouting and the thunder that began from the heavens above.
She closed her eyes a tightly as she could as she began to roll around and wither in pain on the floor, the pain in her back and head was nothing compare to the pain she was experience now. Her skin felt as if it was being stabbed over and over again by small knives, her lungs felt as if they had closed up as she could no longer breathe, her mouth opened as if to scream but nothing came out, not even a breathless whispered as her hands fisted at her sides.
The small pressure that she had felt before returned consuming her entire brain taking over the head ache s the pressure increase. She felt as if her head was being squeezed like a small grape between a finger and thumb, she was waiting for head to explode.
She suddenly felt detached from the world her, as if she was the only one in the garden, in the field as she continued to wither in pain. Her eyes flew open to meet the grey clouds above her as she arched her back upwards, desperately trying to breathe as blackness appeared around the edges. She knew what was happening, she had begged and pleaded and she was now getting what she had waited so long for. The darkness slowly crept in on her as welcomed it, embracing the sudden cold feeling that seemed to wash over her burning body as she closed her eyes. She could hear the cries of many people telling her to breathe, to keep her eyes open but it was no use, he body was not her own anymore as she drowned in the darkness. Tabitha was too late, the red head had been right and Tabitha should had stick to the plan but she hadn't and somewhere in her lost body and mind she felt relief knowing that she had won.
It was time.
It was time to make her decision.
