Chapter Eleven.
"I don't even know what happened. Me and Daniel were sat in the garden playing on the grass when he threw a worm at me and I just picked it up," Samuel swallowed while Alena leant forward on her chair next to him. "And I ate it." Samuel grimaced while he closed his eyes. Alena's hand flew to her mouth to stifle her giggles. She couldn't believe that Samuel was telling her about his childhood, even the gross part about how he had eaten a worm whilst playing with Daniel.
Alena had woken up this morning intending to go to the library using the bus but when she had gone downstairs she had been surprised to see Samuel sat on the sofa talking with her dad while her mum made them a cup of coffee. Alena's day with Samuel yesterday had been one of the best so far, although she always enjoyed the time she spent with Samuel she had enjoyed yesterday more than usual, she knew it had something to do with the fact that he had almost kissed her lips. She could still feel the slight tingle at the corner of her mouth where his lips had been.
"You ate it." She exclaimed as she giggled once again while Samuel shoot her a playful glare. They were sat in the library at her usual table in the corner towards the back. She was a little disappointed knowing that she couldn't spend as long as she would have liked with him but she would savour every moment she could spend with him. Samuel would drop her off at the local supermarket in half an hour or so, so that she could help her mum with their shopping for the week. Now that they had the oracles spending the majority of their days with them there was more mouths to feed and the food they had didn't last as long as it normally did.
"Sh!" A voice hissed from the side as Alena and Samuel looked over to see an old women sat on a few tables away, glaring at them with all she had while her hands tightened on the book in her hands.
"I'm sorry." Alena whispered while she blushed and turned to Samuel who was grinning down at her, not looking even a little bit sorry or embarrassed at them being too loud and attracting the attention of others that were there to read.
"And I ate it." He whispered in her ear, his warm breath blowing strands of her hair across her face while a shiver of pleaser ran up her spin. Both her hands clamped themselves to her mouth while she tried to stop her giggles of laughter being heard. Samuel was grinning from ear to ear while Alena shoot him a playful glare knowing that he was making her laugh of purpose.
"Me and Lucy used to pretend that we were animals, we would dress up and crawl around on the floor and stuff." Alena blushed as she looked down at the book in her hands. Telling someone, especially that someone being Samuel that her and her best friend used to pretend to be animals but Alena couldn't stop herself, she felt so comfortable in his presence as if she could tell him anything and he wouldn't tell anyone of judge her.
"What animal were you?" He chuckled causing Alena's heart to flutter she looked up at him through her eyelashes as she spoke.
"A wolf." She said shyly as she watched Samuel's reaction closely, she was surprised when she saw the huge grin that slide onto his face while his eyes seemed to brightened ever so slightly.
"Do you like wolves?" He asked curiously. She didn't know why but she felt there was something more to his question than simply asking whether or not she liked wolves, there was a double meaning to his question but she didn't question it. He had said that he would explain everything to her and she was more than happy to wait but that didn't mean she wasn't curious.
"They're my favourite animal." She answer honestly, she didn't know why they were her favourite animal there was just something about them that she loved.
"They are pretty cool." Samuel said as she watched him smile as if he was reliving some kind of joke, she shrugged her shoulder and thought nothing of it as she pulled out her phone and looked at the time to see that there was only ten minutes before she had to meet her mum.
"We should get going." She sighed as she closed her book and picked her bag up off the floor. She didn't want to leave, she didn't like the cold and lonely feelings she got when she left Samuel after they had spent the day together.
"We should." Samuel sighed to as Alena stood and slung her bag over whilst pulling her hair around so that it all rested over her left shoulder, the opposite side to the one her bag hung on her shoulders.
"Ready?" She asked as she watched Samuel stand up and hold her hand out for her to take, she easily slide her small hand into his as he laced their fingers together and gently pulled her towards the exit.
"Bye Miss B." She called as they passed the librarian who was smiling softly at them both.
"Bye Alena, see you next weekend." She waved back as Alena was pulled out of the library and towards the car park, the cold, bitter air nipped at her exposed skin as she pulled her jacket closer around herself.
"Cold?" Samuel asked, as he put his arm around her shoulders while keeping his hand tightly in hers. Alena couldn't help but smile up at him, showing off her two dimples that he had kissed yesterday. There was something about being in Samuel's arms that made her feel safe, protected, she forgot about everything that was to come as warmth spread out across her entire being. She loved the feeling of being tucked safely under his arm and pressed to his side, she didn't know what they had or what was going on between them but she loved what they had now, it was relaxing and comforting, completely natural as if this was meant to be. Alena was a hopeless romantic inside and out and the romance starting between her and Samuel had her feeling excited, the same she always felt whenever she thought, heard or even remember what it felt like to touch Samuel.
"Thanks." She said as she pressed herself closer to his side.
"You're more than welcome." He whispered against her forehead before pressing his lips to the top of her head and opened the passenger and helped her in before shutting her door softly and walking around the front of the car and climbing in. The car ride to the super market was filled with small talk as they were both happy with the comfortable silence that had surrounded them, it was as if Alena didn't feel the need to fill the silence with constant talk she was happy with silence.
"I'll walk you to the front." Samuel smiled as he climbed out of the car that he had parked as close to the supermarket he could get but it was still a walk away. Alena's hand was just about to touch the handle when her door was opened and a hand appeared in her eye line, she looked up to see Samuel smiling at her, revealing the one dimple he had.
"That was quick." She commented as she took his hand and allowed him to pull her out the car. He leaned over her and shut the door before he wrapped his arm tightly around his shoulders and began to lead her towards the entrance where she was meeting her mum. Alena's small smile that never left her face as the walk was slowly beginning to make her cheeks ache, despite everything that was going on and everything that would be going she was happy and she knew that it was because of Samuel, Lucy as well as Dean and Daniel who had become her close friends in such a short time.
"Thanks' for today." She smiled up at him as they now stood in front of each other.
"You're more than welcome, I had fun." He smiled.
"Will I see you again?" Alena asked blushing, she didn't want to sound desperate and she didn't want to sound clingy either. She wasn't used to the situation she had found herself in with Samuel and so she didn't know what to do. She wasn't even used to dating guys or being in a relationship, she had a few kisses in her lifetime but that was it.
"I'll text you. But soon." He smiled down at her.
Alena boldly wrapped her arms around his waist and pulled herself against him, instantly his arms were around her small frame, pulling her towards him as she held him close. She had yet to feel what it would be like to be wrapped in his arms, she had imagined it and even found herself dreaming about it but now as she stood in his arms, a cocoon of warmth and safety she savoured the feeling as she felt him press a kiss to the top of her lips.
"Alright kids, break it up. Parent around." An all too familiar voice laughed as Alena blushed furiously as she pulled away to see that her mum stood a foot or two away with a trolley in her hands.
"Mrs Brown," Samuel grinned. "It's lovely to see you again; I shall give you back your daughter."
"Lovely to see you too Samuel, will you be joining us?" Her mum asked politely as she smiled widely at him.
"No I won't be, I've got to get back to work, but maybe another time." He said as he smiled at her mum, Alena hadn't missed the face he had pulled when her mum thought he was going to join them shopping, she guessed that he didn't like shopping very much, the thought alone amused her as she smiled.
"Another time indeed," Her mum sound a little disappointed but still smiled. Alena thought her mum was beginning to develop a certain soft spot for him. "Alena, shall we go?" She asked turning to face her.
"Yes." She turned to face Samuel who was suddenly at her side. "Thank you again, I'll see you soon?" It came out as a question as she looked up at him.
"Promise," He smiled as he leaned down to press his lips to her forehead, she closed her eyes for a moment enjoying the sensations traveling around her body before opened them again. "Bye." He smiled sadly as she stepped away from her. She already felt cold and lonely; she missed him and the warmth he radiated.
"Bye Mrs Brown." He smiled politely before heading towards the car.
"Bye Samuel, see you soon." She called after him. Alena and her mum watched as he stopped before getting in to his car, he turned and smiled at them both before his eyes focused on Alena, causing her to blush and wave shyly as he climbed into his car and out of sight.
"He's such a lovely man." Her mum said as she looked over to see her mum giving her a knowing smile that had her blushing as she walked over and placed her bag in the trolley and lopping arms with her mum. Alena knew that the age gap didn't bother her mum as her mum was a few hundreds of years older than her dad. Being a witch meant that they were able to control when they aged and when they didn't. Alena's mum had frozen her aging at the age of twenty one and stayed twenty for a few hundreds of years before she had meet Alena's dad, only then did she decided to age and grow old with him as her dad was human. Alena knew that she was falling for Samuel; she was falling fast and hard.
"Let's go." She sighed knowing that as they shopped her mum would be quizzing her.
"Is he a good kisser? Has he asked you out on a date yet? Are you dating? Boyfriend and girlfriend? Have you met his parents?" Her mum instantly started with the questions as Alena scanned the shopping lists in her hands; she blushed as she listened to all her mums' questions, despite her mum's age she acted like a teenager sometimes.
"We haven't kissed mum, and no he hasn't. We're not dating which means were not boyfriend and girlfriend. I've meet his dad, Frank, but that only because I went to the movie night with Daniel." Alena answered every one of her mums question in orders.
"So what are you two? Oh and his brother to." Her mum said as she looked over to her mum wiggling her eyebrows, she was sure the horror she felt was shown on her face as her mum burst out laughing, attracting the attention of those that walked by.
"I don't know," She sighed. "And Daniel's my friend, it's not like that'" She added as she scrunched up her face.
"If he hurts you I may have to hurt him." Her mum said, all joking aside as Alena took in her mum's serious expression.
"He won't mum, I know he won't." She really meant it and she was touched that that her mum was looking out for her.
"Good," Her mum sighed before smiling brightly again. "Could you go and get me some watermelon please?" She asked sweetly.
"Got it." Alena smiled widely before turning around and walking through the many aisles to find the fruit section. Watermelon was her favourite fruit which meant she couldn't chose the first one she saw as she stood in front of the watermelon, chewing on her bottom lip as her eyes scanned the many watermelons that the supermarket had to offer. To bruised, she thought as she looked at the top one. She had been stood there for more than a minute as she looked at all the watermelons; with a sigh she chose the one that was bigger than the others with little bruising or marks. Alena reached forward about to grab the one she had chosen when a hand shot out and gripped her wrist painfully tight as she was spun to face the owner of the hand. She looked at the young women in front of her, taking in her tall yet slim frame, the women had frizzy brown hair while her green eyes shone with excitement, the sneer on the women face had Alena panicking as her heart beat rapidly against her chest, she weakly tried to free the hand but it was no use as the women tightened her grip.
"Let me go." Alena's voice was weak as she continued to pull against her hold; she looked around to see if anyone was around and noticed that they were the only two in the fruit section. Alena could scream or use magic but that would mean exposing herself.
"I wouldn't try anything if I were you," The women hissed as Alena focused back on her with wide, fearful eyes. "I know what you are." The women smiled but it was anything but friendly. Alena really began to panic as she realised what this women was, why she was so powerful and why Alena felt fear take over every part of her body, she was a witch, a witch that no doubt wanted to kill her, a dark one.
"Let me go please." Alena begged weakly.
"No." She stated with a shrug. "Now, I'd like you to come with me, don't even try to catch anyone's attention or make a scene as I will make sure you watch you family and friend die." Alena only nodded her head weakly feeling tear blur her vision, she wouldn't put her mum or dad in danger, she wasn't about to get her family and friends killed as she hung her head in defeat. She only wished she had a chance to tell her parents that she was sorry for falling them and that she loved them, she wanted to tell Lucy that she was the best friend anyone could have dreamed off, she wanted Daniel and Dean to know that she classed them as a best friend just like Lucy. Samuel. His very name had Alena's heart shattering into a million pieces; she wanted to tell him that she liked him, really liked him and that she loved spending time with him. But now she would get the chance, she would never see her family or friends again as the dark one before her would probably end her life.
"That's a good little prophecy." The women's smile had turned into something sinister as a tear escaped the corner of her eye. She knew what Alena was, she knew that Alena had the power to change the world into something evil and dark and now doubt this witch would kill her and rip out her heart before eating it, taking her power and therefor her responsiblities.
"I'd let the girl go if I were you Tabitha." A female voice spoke from behind Alena as she looked over her shoulder to see that a man and a women no older that fifty stood a few feet away, Alena guessed if they knew who Tabitha was and what she was capable of then they were also witches, only Alena didn't get the sinister aura she had when Tabitha had appeared, the two people who both of them glaring at the women who's grip had tighten on Alena's wrist to the point that Alena was crying out in pain were light ones.
"It's good to see you so soon Gwen," Tabitha sneered, not making any move to leave or release Alena who was staring at the two people behind her again, begging them with her eyes to help her. "Vince." She glared at the man.
"Let my daughter go." A murderous voice came from behind Tabitha, her mum's voice was low, and clam, deadly calm as Alena looked around Tabitha to see her mum standing there with her hands balled into tight fists at her side, her usually calm blue eyes were a light with fire as she focused on Tabitha.
"This isn't over." Tabitha smirked at them all as she squeezed Alena's wrist hard causing her to cry out in pain before the pressure was released and Tabitha was no longer in front of her. The only thing that told Alena that Tabitha had really been there was the bruising on her wrist that caused a throbbing sensation.
"Alena." Her mum sighed as Alena meet her mum half way and wrapped her arms around her mum's waist, her mum arms came around her as she ran her hand through her hair as Alena cried into her mum's neck, remember how helpless she had felt, how she had thought that she would never see her mum again only made her cry harder.
"I was so scared." Alena admitted as she hugged her mum tighter to her.
"I know, and I've got you. I will never, ever let anyone hurt you, you're safe now." Her mum said as she pulled back and cupped Alena's face in her hands. All Alena could do was nod her head weakly as her mum used the pads of her thumb to wipe away her tears.
"Lisa?" A voice Alena recognised as the women that had stuck up for her earlier, Alena turned in her mums arms to see that both the people were staring at her and her mum is disbelief as if they had seen a ghost.
"Mum. Dad." Her mums tone was cold and emotionless as Alena sniffled as furrowed her eyebrows in confusion.
"We thought we'd never see you again, we thought you died." The women cried as tears began to roll down her face, the man wrapped his arms around her shoulders.
"It's not like you cared years ago." Her mum spat as she pulled Alena closer to her.
"Wait," Alena crock. "Mum? Dad?" She asked her mum as she looked between her mum and the two people who were now starring at her.
"Is this her? Our granddaughter?" The women seemed to cry harder while the man sniffled awkwardly.
"Granddaughter?"
