The sky was tar-black the next morning, as it rained continuously ever since three a.m. Their areas were given a red alert and the people were told to stay home safely, Wafa couldn't be happier about it.

She sighed whilst walking towards their balcony, where Shahzaib was lounging in silence as he watched the rain. They haven't spoken much since waking up. She knew they had to though.

She walked near him slowly as he looked up at her, with a sheepish grin she made herself comfortable on his lap whilst looping her arms around his neck. He looked surprised but happy with her impulsive move.

"Are you still angry?" Wafa asked softly, he blinked in no.

"I didn't mean to disappoint you, Shahzaib." She whispered sadly, he wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her more into him if that was possible.

"Trust me, I know. I'm sorry for being a jerk about it too. It's just lately you don't have time for me," Wafa's heart accelerated as she understood the vulnerability hidden behind those words.

"You didn't even call me the day before yesterday, it was pretty late. I was hoping you'd call and check up on me you know." Her face fell at his words. She didn't know even her smallest of actions made such a difference.

"I-"

"I know, Wafa. You don't do it intentionally. It's just I was so habituated to having you all for myself, your care and attention and it's annoying when you don't have so much time for me anymore. It makes me sound so selfish. But I guess I am selfish." He sighed whilst gazing into her eyes.

"But I know this is my problem, you are trying your best to strike a balance and these exams are really important. So please let me be. I'll be okay,"

Wafa understood that it was his childhood insecurities creeping in. He was abandoned of love and was not given much care or attention in childhood and suddenly she came along, giving him all the love and attention he ever deserved. It is hurting him to see her stop doing that, even for a short while.

And she felt guilty even though she knew it was not her fault. It was no one's fault really.

Not Shahzaib's for wanting her undivided attention nor Wafa's for concentrating on the finals.

"I'm sorry for ignoring you at the office too," He looked away as if regretting his action. Wafa huffed as she remembered it, "yeah. You hurt me there."

"I know," He sighed.

She placed a kiss along his jawline, "I didn't know my ignorance was hurting you, Shahzaib."

It wasn't ignorance per se. But she had other things to concentrate on for the last two months or so and his moodiness was starting to make sense suddenly.

Because it wasn't the first time that Wafa had to cancel something at the last moment. It had happened thrice at least.  Shahzaib was very understanding at first but now not so much.

It seemed a mess. But she knew they could take care of this.

"You weren't ignoring me, Wafa. You were just doing something else that's important for your future." His hands moved to cup her face, "as I said, it's my problem. I will work on it. Don't beat yourself up," And then his lips were on hers, kissing her ever so tenderly and softly. She closed her eyes, enjoying the warmth of his lips. It was soft and slow, giving her all the feels.

Wafa loved his kisses. They always leave her wanting for more. She blushed at that thought as they broke apart.

"I couldn't sleep well last night, guess we should really be adults and talk about our problems instead of moving to the guest room," Wafa chuckled as she pecked his lips again, not wanting to stop just yet.

"Yeah. The bed wasn't as comfortable," Shahzaib grunted but she smiled despite herself, placing another long kiss. He kissed her back just as greedily.

"Why did you come to the guest room though?" Her voice came out shaky and raspy. She guessed what it is, but she wanted to confirm it from Shahzaib himself.

"Because you, my wife get scared to sleep alone, that's why." He stated the obvious and she couldn't help the ridiculous smile that appeared on her face. Wafa knew that was the reason but she didn't want to be so full of herself.

"And I loved the flowers." Shahzaib smiled for the first time this morning, "It's the sweetest thing ever you know, receiving flowers from you."

Wafa beamed at his words as she slipped into one of their memories, of the time when they had to be away for seven days due to her field trip. Of when she sent him flowers for the first time. It was one of her favorite memories of theirs.

I wish you were here.

Wafa's face fell as she read his messages. She dialed Shahzaib's number immediately and he answered it on the first ring itself. It was the first night of being away and things weren't as great as they seemed. Specially after their kiss. Her cheeks still heated up at the recollection of the memory and it made her miss him more.

"Hello."

They both said at the same time and waited for the other person to talk. Silence prevailed after that. She wanted to say so many things.

"How was your day?" He finally asked her something, "interesting." She replied softly. Her heart skipped a beat.

"Where are you now?" She asked him while rolling to the left side of the bed. A sleepy yawn escaped her lips as she waited for his answer.

"You're tired," Shahzaib said instead.

"Yes. But where are you?" She asked again.

"In the hospital," He replied gruffly.

His brother has gotten into an accident, stressing Shahzaib greatly. She was bummed that she couldn't be with him at this moment. He sounded so worried earlier.

"Is Shehzad alright?"

Despite everything, Shahzaib cared a lot for his siblings.

"He is. Resting right now."

"Have you eaten anything?" He did not reply to her question making Wafa frown at her phone.

"I'm not hungry, Wafa."

"But still. You should have eaten something. I bet you didn't have lunch as well."

His silence only provoked her more, "Shahzaib Hussain. Stop being so careless. Go and eat something," She ordered him firmly.

"Look at you, ordering me around." She smiled despite herself.

"I have the right to. I'm your wife after all,"

Wafa loved how she can use her wife's rights against him openly these days. It was amusing and exciting all at the same time. She couldn't help but smile a little at how far they have come.

"Of course." He chuckled in response, clearly not expecting her comeback.

"Seriously, go and eat." She couldn't help but worry about him too.

"Fine. Have you eaten anything?" She heard him walking as they talked and smiled softly in triumph, "yes. The food was good. But I wish I had packed some of your pasta with me. It was so good. I was thinking about it while coming on the bus."

"Should I send it to you?" Wafa burst out laughing at his silly question. But stopped when she realized he wasn't really joking, "I'm a hundred kilometers away, Shahzaib. Be serious."

"But I am serious, I can make it happen." He replied nonchalantly making her feel speechless.

"Shahzaib freaking Hussain. Always so extra," Wafa shook her head in disbelief.

"I guess I am," It was his unabashed acceptance that made her want to roll her eyes.

"Impossible,"

"Anything for you darling," He teased in response, "what did you buy?" She asked him instead as her cheeks turned bright pink. Her heart skipped a few beats as well. She didn't know they were using endearments for each other. Her heart flustered unknowingly.

"Chicken fried rice."

Wafa gleamed softly as they continued talking for the rest of the night and she fell asleep somewhere around four and had to wake up in less than two hours. It was one hectic day. But she was thrilled about the field trip. They get to learn and do so much.

Even though she went about with her day, a little corner of her heart was missing Shahzaib greatly. It was the feeling of not being able to see him instantly after their routine ended which got her the most. There was a weird void kind of feeling inside her.

It was her third day away from him now and she was losing it completely.

"Wow. I think Wafa-in-love is not my favorite person to be around." Zunera grumbled on their lunch break. Humera hified with her twin while Wafa rolled her eyes at them both.

But she froze while recollecting the words, "I'm not in love,"

"And I'm blind," Zunera snorted as they sat with a group of other students and began to eat their lunch.

"I'm not in love with him," Wafa replied again in a whisper, more firmly this time. Her friends eyed each other with knowing looks on their faces and grinned at each other.

"She's in denial," They mumbled at the same time, in their twin's way. She made a face at them both before eating her lunch.

But was she in love with him? Is it possible to be in love with someone so soon? It's only been three months.

It's been three months, of course, you can fall in love with him. Her heart screamed at her.

She froze at the realization. Was she really in love with him?

As if he knew that she was thinking about him, Shahzaib began to call her, her hands began to shake as she swiped it up to answer nervously and walked away from her nosy friends to talk with him in silence. She had to compose herself quickly.

Wafa didn't think she'd be able to speak something though.

"The flowers are gorgeous," Shahzaib said the first thing as she answered the call and a warm smile crept up her cheeks as she hummed in response, forgetting about the love thing for a while, she was excited that he has received her package finally, "no one has ever given me flowers before," He added vulnerably.

"Good. I want to be the only person who gives you flowers," Wafa smiled cheekily as her friends passed her teasing looks from afar. She turned away from them and confined to talk, "I didn't know you could flirt,"

"What? I was not flirting with you." Her cheeks were on fire as she denied it instantly, "you were flirting with me, just now." Shahzaib began to tease her.

"I'm hanging up," Wafa huffed but he just laughed in response, "it's been three months huh?"

"Yes. And I wanted to do something thoughtful for you. I hope you liked them," She beamed while imagining him holding the red roses and reading her special card which she has ordered online through an Instagram account, they delivered it very soon, "I love them and I'm keeping the roses in our bedroom,"

His response made her flutter.

"I miss that place." She sighed inwardly, feeling a little sad. Her friends are almost done with their lunch, but she wasn't that hungry anymore.

"I miss you more," Shahzaib replied longingly, "and the card is beautiful. Thank you."

"Happy three months anniversary, Wafa"

She could feel Shahzaib's smile from the other end which lifted her mood a little.

"You're only a temporary wife, nothing more than that."

Wafa couldn't help but recall the bitter words uttered by the very same Shahzaib three months ago on their wedding night. It's so ironic how three months have changed him completely. She chuckled whilst holding the infinity pendant that he has gifted her.

She could bet he never imagined saying something like this at the beginning of their marriage.

From wanting her just as his temporary wife to wishing her for their three months anniversary, it has been a bumpy ride. She couldn't wait for the journey of forever that he has promised her.

"Where are you lost?" Shahzaib raised his brows at her, snapping her back to the present. She shook her head negatively, smiling at the memory again. It was when she realized her love for her husband. That she was falling for him, fast and hard, it was crazy.

Nine months into their marriage. Everything seemed worth it.

Wafa loved buying him flowers all the time. For he always expressed how much he liked that gesture. It was their thing, her buying him flowers.

She couldn't get enough of pampering him.

Maybe that's why her distance seem to effect him more.

"Lost in you," She joked making him roll his eyes but there was a tint of smile that appeared on his lips, letting her know that he liked it.

Of course, Shahzaib loves it when she flirts. Even though Wafa was terrible at it. They both were not much into expressing stuff. Which is why they never said I love you in all these months. But she knew that he loved her. She hoped that he knew it too.

"Shahzaib..." She trailed off, whilst placing her head against his chest, enjoying the warmth of his body in the cold rain.

"Hmmm?"

"We are okay right?" Wafa was scared that her being busy has caused any distance between them. She hoped it was not the case.

"Of course, we are Wafa." He placed a kiss on her forehead whilst gazing at the rain again. The view was fantastic from their balcony, but Wafa would rather stay inside her room tucked in a blanket, and maybe get some revisions done.

"Are you cold?" He asked in his caring voice making her flutter, she just hummed and he was instantly on his feet, holding her along in his arms swiftly. Wafa gasped at his actions but he just kept walking unfazed. Carrying her as if she weighed nothing.

"I'll make us some hot coffee, or would you like tea?"

"Tea please," She mumbled as he dropped her on their bed.

He nodded with a smile whilst walking towards the kitchen and Wafa went in search of her favorite sweater, which she frequently uses when in cold.

A beam was plastered on her face as she zipped the sweater which Shahzaib has given her a long ago when she was really sick. Back when they were just friends.

She chuckled at the memory.

It felt like ages ago.

Oh how much she loved the changes in their lives right now.

But the friendship was the start of everything beautiful though. Wafa will forever be glad that they decided to give this relationship a real chance that one evening. All because Shahzaib wanted to be her friend.

Nothing remained the same after that.

There were ups and downs, of course.

There were more bad ones than good ones. For both Wafa and Shahzaib were equally stubborn and egoistic people, they took some time to learn the art of compromising. It took a really long time to adjust to each other's thought processes and beliefs as they continued living together, figuring out their emotions along the way.

They are still figuring things out.

But now, Wafa was sure, come what may, they will always find their way back to each other.

Always.
