Chapter 9

Maya's car in the multi-media above <333

Silver's car below

Pressing the button to open my garage, I braced myself to see the blessing that lay just beyond this metal barrier.

I laid my eyes on the most beautiful art that lay before me.

I'm talking about my car, Brylee: a Bugatti Veyron - though car wasn't the word I would use to describe it. It was more like a sleek, sexy, beautiful royal blue chariot that fell from heaven and into my humble (if you can call my home humble) abode.

Someone better remind me when I'm writing my will to give my car to my afterlife, because I swear if anyone touches my baby, I will castrate them with absolutely no regrets.

I could have sat there all day long, staring at the beauty which was my car, but then I remembered that I had challenged Silver and that if I wanted to get to my old home in-time, I would need to leave now.

I turned on my engine and the low hum of the engine booting sent pleasurable shivers down my spine as I relished in the feel of the luxury of my ride.

Driving out of the neighbourhood, I felt completely in my element as I made my way out to meeting point, excitement making it's way through my whole body.

Once I had arrived, my eyes fell on one of the most spectacularly gorgeous orange Lambourghini Murciélago's I had ever seen, the smooth, curvy exterior marrying up with the luxe beauty of the interior.

Get your act together, Maya, you're here to pummel Silver, not ogle his expenses.

Maybe I could steal his car later?

Before I could fully render that he had an orange Lambo, his silver eyes stared me down. Cautiously, I stepped out of my Bugatti and stared at him back, scrutinising his every move. I noticed the way his fingers curled around the door handle. I noticed the way he pushed his door up into the air. I noticed the way his face changed to accommodate a vicious grin that grew, chilling me to the bone.

He stepped out, approaching me with the strides of an over-confident prick.

This would have been the perfect time to have backed out and fled, but my heart stopped beating as my eyes flew to the firearm in his left hand.

If he gets close enough, I could knock his gun away from him, but he's still stronger than me and could easily beat me up.

I should have stolen Derek's gun.

"Maya, I never thought I'd see the day where you'd be challenging me. What happened, did you finally grow some balls, finally grow out of your stupid, pathetic weakness?" he taunted, enjoyment dancing around in his orbs, but I wasn't going to let him get to me.

"Wow, I never thought I'd see the day where you're face would become lifeless and blue, pummelled beyond recognition." I countered, satisfied when his eyes went a few shades darker, the joy in them suddenly leaving.

"Here are the stakes, Cordero." he spat out, as if my last name held a disgusting taste in his mouth. "When I win, you will give yourself up to me and this will mean you must comply to my every command, but should you win by some miraculous circumstance, I'll leave you alone."

"No---"

But he raised his gun again, warning me to shut up.

"Deal. Now that that's settled, here are the rules. You can take any route you desire but they must pass through Leicester town then to Northampton town and back here in Coventry, understand?"

But once again, before I could say anything, he got into his car.

"If we are caught cheating, the opponent is allowed to shoot at them. They are the only rules."

Great. I have literally brought a fucking rope to a gunfight. A gunfight with an A-class psychopath.

Good going Maya! At this rate, you'll be dead before you can even say 'race'.

I got back into my driving seat and stared down Silver one last time before I twisted the key and my car started up to life. The once pleasurable sound of the engine turned into an ominous background humming, as if it were telling me that I should back out now, yet one look at the last message he sent me was enough for vengeance to be pumping through me instead of blood, a darkness overcoming me as I remembered the lifeless body of my best friend...

Accelerating at an impressive speed, I took a left and found myself on the main road. I had no clue where I was heading but the road board indicated I was now on the A46 towards Leicester, letting me know that I was heading in the right direction.

Both cars didn't seem to be slowing down, both increasing in speed until all the surroundings were nothing but mere blurs, the only thing that stood clear was Silvers Murciélago which mirrored my every move.

I merged onto the M6, now running at three times the legal speed limit. The one thing that I had forgotten though, was the feds. Bright, blaring lights which came together to form a purple shade made us aware that not only were we racing each other, but we were being chased by the police.

One of the things my mother had taught me though, with her reckless driving, was how to loose the feds. I knew my Veyron was superior with its 250mph top speed, easily out-running the squad cars with their appalling 120mph. I knew I held advantage over the Murciélago which had a top speed of 210 - still impressive but not as impressive as mine.

Adrenaline coursed through me as I swerved through the traffic, the orange of his car never leaving my side. I knew that I could speed up if I wanted, but now was not the time. Not yet.

I made my way through Leicester town, speeding at now what was 5 times the speed limit. More sirens blared around us as the feds came back, obviously not understanding that however many cars they sent out, none would be able to catch up to that of two elite sports cars.

Yet, my heart stopped beating as I heard multiple gun-shots, the terrified looks of bystanders making it clear that I was not delusional. I swerved the car, nearly crashing into a bus. It only dawned on me now that we were playing a game.

A very dangerous game.

Not only was I endangering the lives of my friends at this point, but I was endangering the lives of anyone who had the misfortune of witnessing this suicide run.

As if to add salt to the wound, I saw that my tank was now half empty.

I had forgotten to re-fill the tank.

I had forgotten to refill the fricking tank.

A crushing realisation dawned on me: I had only just enough fuel to get me to Coventry and if I encountered any traffic - however slow it may be - I would be screwed.

With a newfound determination, I merged onto the A563, speeding past the dull, lifeless cars that stood around. Going in and out through the other vehicles, me and Silver danced with the audience, sometimes with him infront of me, filing me with despair, other times with me triumphantly infront of him.

In under 20 minutes, we were able to enter Northampton town, our speed of over 200 mph breaking more laws than I would like to count.

Ironically, I just came past a board that read 'Kill your speed, not our population', yet, if I didn't speed now, more than just our population would be lowered.

At a quarter of the tank, I felt an indistinguishable terror seep through me, a feeling of utter despair looming over me as I realised that the chances of my getting to Coventry were slim.

Swiftly, I made my way onto the A45, dodging the old women who drove their cars slower than the speed they walked. His car was nearly touching mine as we were forced to slow down with the incoming traffic.

I couldn't afford to be stuck in it, so I made a reckless mistake which could easily go awry.

I drove into oncoming traffic.

My chest felt so tight as I heard the honks of angry drivers, soon to be drowned out by the noise of more gunshots, yet this time, they were at the cars that were infront of me.

I heard my own scream resonate in the walls of my car as I expertly dodged the cars that were uncontrollably thrown at me. What really induced the scream was knowing that innocent, young children could have been in those cars. Pregnant ladies could have been in those cars. Newly weds could have been in that car. Anyone could have been in those cars and I may have just signed their death contracts.

In my rear-glass mirror, I saw explosions and flames accompanied by smoke and screams as my worst fear at the minute came true.

He just killed completely innocent bystanders.

They had nothing to do with this. Absolutely nothing. And because of his impulses, many innocents just died.

A rage burned inside of my like a fire being fed with oil and wood. I was so pissed and guilty that I decided I as going to end this once and for all.

I reached my top speed of 250, knowing well and truly that this would completely deplete my tank, but either way, I was screwed to begin with.

Joining back onto the A46, I kept a lookout for the orange Lambourghini that followed. Neck-a-neck, it was a race to the finishing street, my fuel levels fatally low as my car forcefully began slowing down. We turned onto one of the smaller roads, my Veyron slowing down quicker and quicker, and once I thought all hope was lost, a red BMW Came towards us at an alarming speed and suddenly, everything ran in slow motion.

I saw the car swerving round me, the driver oddly familiar, and heading straight for Silver's Murciélago, a deafening crunch toturing my ears as I watched the Lambo loose control and forcefully hit the solid brick wall infront.

The BMW reversed just as my fuel completely gave out, completely slowing me to a halt.

As the driver got out, my body suddenly started tingling all over after I found myself staring into those beautiful blues of the hospital imposter once more.
