With a fat mug of coffee and god knows how many painkillers, I sat at the breakfast table, praying that my hangover would just piss off. Zara seemed to be doing the exact same, groaning whenever the boys even made the tiniest of peeps.
"Shut up, Connor."
"No can do, May, you should have seen what you were doing last night."
"I'd rather not." I said, quickly glancing at Derek.
He seemed happy enough.
I couldn't say the same for Jacob though. He looked absolutely miserable.
Sighing, I got up and walked over to Jacob. Tapping him on the shoulder, I motioned him to come with me. Reluctantly, he did get up and followed me out of the room.
Right, so where am I actually going now is the question.
I didn't need to think for long though because soon, we were by the second living room.
It was smaller than the main one, but it could have easily out shined most normal living rooms in England with it's massive interior and the way that the royal blue carpet lay, lush and soft across all edges of the floor as the cream walls perfectly complimented the look.
I sat down on one of the two person couches that were on the edge of the room. Jacob sat down next to me.
Turning to face him, I didn't actually know what to say.
What do I even do in these kinds of situations? Do I apologise? I haven't done anything to apologise for though. I mean, I'd have to be pretty stupid to think that he didn't like me, anyone with eyes could tell that he does, but so does Derek.
So I stuck with apologising.
"Hey, erm, I'm sorry for what I did last night. I didn't mean to make you upset by it at all."
"I mean, I'd be lying if I said it didn't make me upset but I don't own you so, you're open to do what you want."
"Ye, but I still shouldn't have, especially with you sitting there."
"Oh, why's that?" He asked, as if he had no clue but the small upturn in his lips told me otherwise.
"You know why." I said, my voice a little bit quieter than before.
"No, I really don't."
"Guess you're not finding out from me." I said as I got up, ready to leave. But he pulled me back down straight away, turning me to face him.
"Ok, fine, you got me. I guess I was waiting for some other time to tell you but I guess this will do. It's true, you know, I do like you quite a bit. I know yore smart so I'm sure that you already noticed that so yes, you're right, it did make me a little upset. I mean, you definitely could have kept my virgin eyes from going through that." He said, a chuckle escaping him as he said the last bit.
Heat rose to my cheeks so quickly, what am I even meant to say to that?
"I'm so--sorry. If it means anything though, that kiss meant absolutely nothing. I was completely wasted and it definitely counts to nothing in my eyes. It might be a different case for him but I guess he's just going to have to get over it."
"That helps more than you could think." He said, a wide smile on his face but his eyes, there was a different story there.
His eyes carried happiness but there was still a hint of disbelief.
"I'm not kidding, you know, I mean it when I said it meant nothing. Anyone could tell."
"Not everyone..."
"Believe me if you want but that's the truth."
He sat in silence for a few seconds before making eye contact with me.
"I believe you." He said and this time, there was only happiness in his eyes.
I got up and he followed. We stood there for a few seconds before I put my arms around him.
He was a lot bigger than me though so my head literally just rested on his chest. He wrapped him arms around me as well, placing his arms around my waist and rested his head on mine.
It was calming, really, it felt really nice. I could have actually fell asleep if I wanted to.
I closed my eyes for a few moments just taking in the warmth he was giving off, whilst listening to his steady heartbeat.
Taking my arms from him, I looked at him with a smile, one that he returned just as happily.
In a comfortable silence we walked through the corridor down to the kitchen but then I heard voices in the first living room.
Hushing Jacob who was just about to ask me what I was doing, I quietly stood next to the doorway of the living room, holding Jacob behind me.
It was Connor and Zara, whispering to each other ever so quietly.
"She's in danger, you know. There hasn't been a word since they came and in this case, no news is not good news. They're planning something and I know that you know."
"Mendez gave us instructions, you know that. We keep her here until he says so."
"He also said that after a month, if there's no news, we have to move her."
"We still have a few days."
There was a loud sigh from Zara before she carried on.
"I'd get them to pack their things now. The boys are only going to slow her down if she needs to move quickly."
"The boys are necessary, like he said, any of her friends are to come along to or they're in just as much trouble."
There were a few moments of near silence where all i could hear were grunts of approval from both parties.
"She still hasn't got a clue, has she."
"I didn't until his men got me from Minetta's hands so I doubt she has a clue either."
"You ever going to tell her?"
"It's something she'll find out on her own, we got to trust Mendez."
Then there was silence, then footsteps.
I pushed Jacob, trying to tell him to move. He only seemed to get the message when they were at the doorway.
Shit, we were going to get caught.
I ran back the direction we came from, quickly jumping back into the second living room and grabbing Jacob into another hug.
I felt Jacob tense up against me but I honestly had bigger things on my head right about now.
Their footsteps were getting closer and closer and they seemed to have stopped just outside the room.
"They're still in there, probably snogging, bet." Zara said.
"Na, Maya would not be able to, especially after last night."
Chuckling, the two of them then just walked off.
I quickly undid myself from Jacob and looked up at him.
"They're hiding something, I mean, you heard what they said, didn't you Maya."
"No." I said sarcastically "Of course I did but what are they doing with Mendez, he's a killer, for god's sake! Not to mention that all the pain we've been in is because of him."
"He seems pretty bent on making sure that you're safe, you know."
"Probably so that he can finish what your dad started."
"Step-dad."
"Sorry, slipped my mind."
"We need to find out why they're keeping it a secret from us."
"Does that mean that Jack's guys are going to be here soon?"
"From the way Connor was talking and the way Jack is, he'll be attacking soon. We need to get out of here soon."
I thought about it, but it didn't make sense. Why does Este need me? And why was I even involved in any of this?
The man was evil. The press and everyone that's ever testified anything about him says so.
But there was something else everyone knew.
And it was the fact that if you're one of Este's targets, you're not going to get out of the situation unscathed.
