Rats and Rabbits
Yuki Sohma was charming, handsome, and kind. He was the boy every sweet girl wants to marry, have 2 kids, live in a 2 story house with a picket fence, and a puppy everyone loved.
He was the school prince back in his high school days.
Today he was a traveler.
As a child he was locked away inside of a little room forced to endure abuse, cruelty, and at times even insanity.
Life didn't get much better until he was freed.
Akito, feeling guilty about everything she had done, convinced her family to give him traveling cards.
France, Italy, Germany, America, even Russia.
He visited them all at one point.
Yuki would visit one every 3 months for a month at a time.
After years of being confined and trapped, traveling was like a drug he could never get off of.
Today Yuki Sohma has visited 5 countries and 32 states. He lost his over politeness due to the rat being set free but still kept that polite and proper aura.
So why did he forget all of this in the blink of an eye as soon as a pretty girl smiled at him?
Hinata blinked at his flustered appearance. All she asked was how traveling was...
"Are you feeling sick too?" She asked in concern, why else would he get flustered? Asking about traveling was hardly flirting.
"Ah no, I'm sorry Hinata-san. Traveling is very exciting. The sites and cultures are all interesting." Yuki shook his head and smiled kindly.
Hinata's eyes sparkled as she unconsciously tiptoed to even out their heights.
Yuki bit back a chuckle at her childish behavior.
"Really? What does Italy look like? I've always wanted to visit." She trailed off, longing in her voice.
"It's amazing. I really do recommend visiting it one day..." He trailed off.
"Yeah, I studied the language and everything!" She said cheerfully.
"You know Italian?" He asked, looking bewildered.
"Italian, English, German, and Japanese of course." She said with an affirmative nod.
"That's...that's amazing." He said in awe.
"Not really." Hinata blushed, "I've had a lot of free time." She smiled hesitantly.
"Don't underestimate your achievements Hinata-san." Yuki said gently.
Hinata blushed harder and thanked the older male.
Momiji found this the appropriate time to interrupt.
"Hiiiinaaaataaaaa." He whined, from the doorway. "I don't feeeeeel gooood."
A worried gleam appeared in her eye as she reached up to touch his forehead. "You feel warmer than before..." She bit her lip in concern.
Momiji leaned heavily on her head with a halfhearted smug smirk.
"You can't steal her Purple Prince." He stuck his tongue out mockingly. "Heart Girl is mine~!" Momiji sang, half delirious from his fever.
"Oh shut up Bunny Boy." She rolled her eyes, not noticing her choice of words, too focused on trying to get his arms off her head.
However, Yuki and Momiji heard quite clearly.
Momiji broke out into a pleased grin and hugged her head tighter. "I love you Hiiiinataaa." He drawled.
Yuki stared at her perplexed.
"Momiji get off." She muttered.
"Noooo call me that again..." He whined, face red from fever.
"Call you what?" Hinata questioned in confusion.
"Bunny Boy." He whined louder.
"Why would I call you Bunny Boy?" She looked at Yuki for some kind of explanation but he shrugged and mouthed 'go with it'.
She sighed,"please let go...B-Bunny Boy." She felt her cheeks heat up, something about that name just felt so personal. But what would be so personal that would be named Bunny Boy?
Momiji giggled with glee while Yuki rolled his eyes.
Before Momiji passed out on the floor.
Hinata squeaked and sent a surprised look to Yuki who only smiled charmingly.
"He's fine."
"B-But he fell on the f-floor!"
"He's be fine."
"He passed out!"
"He's fine."
"Is that his soul coming out?!?" She cried.
"He's fine."
Hinata stared at him in disbelief while he continued smiling charmingly and innocently.
She felt her cheeks heat up just a bit before she leaned down and started heaving Momiji up by his arm.
"Nooooo." He whined half awake.
"Momiji you can't sleep on the floor." Hinata scowled and tugged insistently.
"Whhhhhy?"
"Because your cold will get worse." She sighed.
"M'don't care." He mumbled and snuggled into the rug.
Hinata sighed in defeat before setting up a blanket and pillow for the blonde boy with an exasperated smile.
"You seem to be close to him." Yuki said impassively.
"D-Do I?" Hinata blushed and looked down at his sleeping face. "I j-just met him a c-couple of days a-ago."
Yuki noted bitterly that she seemed to only not stutter around Momiji.
"But," she added with a soft smile,"I'd like to get to know him if he'd allow me." She glanced up at him with bright honey brown eyes that sparkled underneath her lashes.
"I think he's a sweetheart." She laughed a bit.
Yuki smiled kindly back at her. "He can be." He agreed. "But he likes to act cool."
Hinata laughed at that, "Cool?"
"He doesn't like talking to girls and he had a phase where he wore sunglasses indoors for a year and a half. He wore leather for 2 years." Yuki chuckled albeit a bit evilly. If he was going to lose in the race, may as well give her blackmail on him.
Hinata choked and laughed harder at the idea of sweet, charming Momiji wearing sunglasses and leather but only made her crack up harder.
Yuki's eyes softened at the image of absolute humor and joy on her face.
It had been very gloomy since she had left. Mostly from the desperation from Tohru, depression from Momiji, heartbreak from Kisa, and withdrawnness from Hiro.
Kisa and Hiro were still pained, time doing nothing to heal the wounds and not knowing about Hinata did nothing to change this.
Tohru was still sad, only seeing Hinata remember her would cure this, but it was as if she had acknowledged Hinata was alive, scattered but alive.
Momiji however, had taken a complete turn.
He had this fake persona of happiness surrounding him, it had sickened Yuki.
It had sickened him that Momiji was turning into him.
Yuki Sohma was charming, handsome, and kind. He was the boy every sweet girl wants to marry, have 2 kids, live in a 2 story house with a picket fence, and an adorable puppy.
But at the same time,
Yuki Sohma was damaged, broken, and always playing pretend. He was the boy who had built a space that no one could break through, a space that was dark and small with tall walls and ferocious monsters keeping him from ever leaving.
Momiji Sohma was sweet, exuberant, and positive. He was the boy every girl couldn't decide if they wanted to date him or coddle him. The type that lived in a house that was always rapidly changing because he only wanted the best for the girl he fell for, there would be no fence because he wanted to have the assurance that even though there was no guards, they wouldn't leave. To force his children to love rabbits because "they were super cool."
But at the same time,
He was scared, withdrawn, and doubtful. He was in the middle of going to that dark space when she came back.
Hinata Honda.
Did you know Hinata meant sunflower? I guess you could have guessed right?
But did you know Hinata also means sunny place or toward the sun?
Well that was exactly what she was to Momiji Sohma.
A place in the sunlight reserved for him. A chance for happiness.
Seeing her 3 years later only showed what he already knew.
They had been losing him fast as the days went by, now he was back, looking happier than he had in years.
Perhaps this was unsettling.
What would he do if someday she didn't come back? If death had claimed her? If she simply didn't want to come back?
But seeing him so happy, everyone bit their tongue.
"Damn rat!" Momiji slurred.
"Stupid cat." He giggled.
"I don't think this medicine is helping." Hinata bit her lip in thought before she got up and rummaged through the medicine.
"Could you try and get him to take these?" She asked pleadingly. "I'll make him some leek soup."
"Of course." Yuki smiled gentlemanly.
"Lay off meh gurl." Momiji scowled.
Yuki smiled before the forcing the pills down his throat.

Once in the kitchen Hinata took a breath before exploding in a deep red and crouching down.
Goodness that was embarrassing.
Confessing his love, hanging off her, and making offhanded embarrassing comments almost killed her.
Hinata took a deep breath and stood up.
Momiji was delirious, he had hi idea what he was saying. Therefore, he didn't actually do any of that. He was just subconsciously thinking of something else.
He said love. Her heart argued.
Shut up, I've known him for literally 4 days. Besides I'm 17, how am I supposed to know what love is?
Crazed people say what's on their mind.
No, angry people say what's on their mind.
Bunny Boy and Heart Girl.
She didn't have an answer for that.
