Questing with an Old Man

Charlie POV

After he showed me my mother's life I knew in my heart that I could trust him. That I could love him. That he was, in fact, my father and he loved me too. And after I called him dad, he smiled a genuine smile. It wasn't full of grief, his eyes seemed to light up. He gave me hope that I could have the family I've always wanted.

"Now, let's see what you can do with that sword, huh?"

"Can it wait until the morning, Dad?"

I heard him mumble a, 'I'm never gonna get used to that.' But he agreed.

"I have one more question."

"I have the answer." He smirked, and I swear I saw a few of his wrinkles disappear.

"What kind of bone is this?"

I took the sword out of my sheath, his eyes were drawn to the inscription on it and he gasped. Tears welled up in his eyes once more, only for him to shake them away again.

"It's Drakon bone. We got it in the Pit. A gift from the friendly giant. She had lost her knife during the fall and that right there is the only thing that could replace it."

"What does the inscription say?"

"That I'm a Seaweed Brain. Ha. And that she's waiting for me. There's also the part where she's threatening me, but that's not a surprise. She's always threatening me."

"Why is she-?"

"Before we do anything we have to take a trip to Olympus. Time for you to see the place your mother designed."

He led me out to the Big House. The campers that had been there before were still standing on the porch, silent.

"Where's Chiron?"

The campers just stared at my father in awe.

"Hello? Nothing? C'mon Charlie we can find him ourselves."

As we turned away, I heard the sound of following footsteps.

"Agent Johns-I mean Jackson!"

"Yes, Lana? We have important stuff to do than keep Stevie Wonder over there from being an idiot."

"Uh, no. The Bureau needs to be called, otherwise they'll come looking for us. What should I do?"

"Nice of you to remember I'm you're superior. Tell them the murderer is behind bars and is not going to be facing trial, they pleaded guilty. And say I took you three on a vacation type thing for a job well done."

"Of course, sir. Oh, and Chiron is in the painted cave."

"Rachel's cave?"

"I guess. If I may, sir, why is it that you must speak with him this late at night?"

"We're going to Olympus, I wanted to give him knowledge of the trip in advance."

"Could I accompany you? If it's not a bother."

"You may as well, from Olympus our quest will begin. Three people is the lucky number. Meet us at the cave in 20. Bring Blackjack, Festus, and Mrs. O'Leary. And any other pegasi that wish to join us as well."

"Yes, sir."

As she walked away he released a deep sigh and shook his head.

"Dad?"

"What's up, Charlie?"

"What's wrong?"

"I've never taken a vacation day in my life, now I'm 68 years old and I am. They're gonna think that I've become tired and I'm gonna be stuck behind a desk for the rest of my career. And if that happens, I can't protect the demigods anymore."

"No, you'll be doing something better. You'll be Percy Jackson again."

"You really are just like her y'know. Gods, I hope I see her soon."

By this point we had arrived at the cave, a thick red drape covered the entrance of it. Above the entrance, there were words roughly scrawled out.

'Beware ye who enter this cavern of terror, for in this dark place lies a terrible spirit. AGHHHH.'

As we walked through my dad jumped up and slapped his hand on the words. Just like a high schooler touching the tops of doors. He smirked at me and said, "Tradition."

That's when I noticed the paintings that filled the caves. Many were of my father with a sword in his hand and fire in his eyes. There were horribly graphic scenes of war and death. There were a few of 7 people including my father. And there was the one that wasn't fully finished, it was of my father and a girl, except in this painting my father was not young anymore. He looked how he does now, like an old man.

This was the painting that my father and Chiron were staring at, jaws slack.

"She saw something." My father whispered.

Chiron only nodded his head.

"Where did you find this?"

"It just appeared here today. I came in looking for anything that could help us, and it appeared in front of me."

My father reached out towards the painting and gasped again.

"It's still wet."

He then proceeded to carefully turn the painting around, and there we found a note written on the back. He read it aloud.

"Percy, if you are reading this you've got your hope back. I tried to tell all of you what was coming, but he took me first. I've been telling Annabeth that everything is fine. I haven't told her of your age and yes I know. The potion attached should begin to de-age you until you are the same age as us, but it will take a long time. You will find us, but that is all I have seen so far. Keep this envelope close to you, Hazel has enchanted it so that we can contact you. It works similar to Hermes shrine. See you on the other side. ~RED"

"I'll keep my eyes and ears open here, and I'll contact Camp Jupiter. But, Percy, be careful. We don't know if this one is down there or up here. Anything could happen."

"Of course, Chiron. And we're taking Lana with us."

"I'm sure Clarisse will love that. I hope to see you soon, my boy."

"Me too. Let's go, Charlie. We got our work cut out for us."

We exited the cave of paintings and waiting at the border for us was a bronze dragon, a massive dog, three pegasi, a normal horse, and a daughter of Ares.

"Well, for one thing, we've got a great team right here. Hi, Arion. Long time no see."

The horse whinnied angrily and reared up.

"Gods, you haven't changed your sailor mouth in all this time. Meet us at Olympus?"

The horse zipped away, like, really fast. He was a blur.

"Dad, you can speak to horses?"

"It's a son of Poseidon thing. Charlie, meet Lana."

I waved hello and a pegasus snorted.

"No, I didn't forget you. And of course Porkpie, Guido, Mrs. O'Leary, and Festus. And we can't forget trusty ol' Blackjack now can we?"

Blackjack pawed at the ground.

"Oh, please. You're older than I am and you know it. Plus, if you call me old man again I won't give you any more donuts."

Then he took a swig of the liquid and the glass and hopped on Blackjack, "Besides, I won't be old for long. Hop on everyone. It's time to see the crazy part of the family. Hopefully, your grandmother won't set her owls on me, but we all know it's gonna happen."

Lana and I hopped onto the other two pegasi and we were soon soaring through the air. Time to meet my godly family.
