Fidgeting around with my bracelet I downed yet another glass of wine. There was a chance that I would meet my soulmate, the guy I've been dying to meet ever since I had my 16th birthday. But with finding a soulmate came the responsibility of finding the suitable man to lead my father's pack by my side, the Evergreen Pack.

"Ready for your future husband?", my best friend asked me while taking a seat next to me on one of the bar chairs.

I nodded my head, "As ready as can be", I replied taking a sip of the new glass of red wine the barkeeper had given me.

"What about you? Are you scared?", the redhead shook her head, "Never."

Typical Rosemary, never scared of anything, a good trait as my beta.

"I see you're wearing your bracelet and judging from the way that barkeeper is so relaxed around you, I'd say it's working", she smiled at me, and I take another sip of the red fluid.

My best friend took a strand of my blond long hair and twirled it, a habit of hers whenever she was too nervous to admit it. I calmly watched her every move, how she distanced herself from me and walked over to the other side of the room where all the mirrors were, in a quite obvious attempt to calm herself down.
Maybe I should follow her, who knows what that girl is up to.
My eyes darted to my glass and the dark red wine in it, if I concentrated enough, I could see myself. Dark blue eyes and blond straight hair, quite plain if you ask me.

I looked up, felt a strange sense of a pull towards something or someone but I would not move. If whatever was pulling me wanted me then it could come to me, I shouldn't have to go to them just because. A guy was walking up to the bar where I was at, tall with black hair and pretty decent looking. But the pull I was experiencing wasn't coming from him, so whatever it was had to be somewhere in the crowd. Great.

Bored I turned my back to the crowded room and for a change ordered a glass of lemonade, I couldn't be drunk when my mate arrived. Us werewolves did not get drunk as easily as humans did but we still did get drunk, we just had a slightly higher tolerance. As soon as the barkeeper set down my lemonade in front of me, I started sipping it, not because I desperatelywanted to sober up but because I realized I would have to dance later in the night.

"Are you trying to get drunk on lemonade?", the black haired male next to me asked in an amused tone, I shook my head, "I am trying to sober up. I'll have to dance later on and I can't do that if I'm intoxicated", he laughed at my words.

"How many of those glasses have you had?", he asked glancing at the empty glasses I had sitting besides me, "Wait, no, don't tell me, I don't think I want to know."

I giggled, "You're funny."

Emptying the lemonade I felt the pull again.
My mate is here somewhere. I can feel it, I can feel our connection.
More sober than before I gave the tall male a nod as ways of saying goodbye before I let myself be guided by the magnetic pull. I walked past couples who were close to eating each other up and single people who were desperately looking for their soulmates. Once I reached a balcony, I took a deep breath.
This is it. This is the first time I meet my mate.
My heart pounding in my chest I walked out onto the balcony and looked around. Kept my eyes open for someone who would immediately catch my eye and who would feel my gaze immediately.
And then I found him. It was as if the whole world changed and there was a blurry cloud around us.

Happiness was flowing through me as I ran up to my chosen one. With every step I got closer and the bewitching scent of my supposed future husband flooded my lungs. My mind was blank, there was no space for any thoughts, after all I was about to meet my soulmate.

"Hi, sorry, do you mind if I keep you company?", I forced myself to strike up a light conversation.

Green eyes, as green as the leaves in the forest, found mine. Time seemed to stand still, or at least slow down. I was sure that curiosity was twinkling in my eyes as he came face to face with me. His hand reached out, tucking a short strand of hair behind my ear, as if utterly mesmerized.

"I do not mind in the slightest", he wispered, the next question he asked though was one I hadn't expected quite so soon, "What rank are you?"

I blinked. What? Not, what's your name? Or how old are you? Just what's your rank? Did he not care about the rest? I shook my head, to get the annoying thoughts away.

"Medium, I'm planning on getting to the position on a delta," I lied, "I like to be able to help the pack rather with medicine than with fighting," I explained. Deltas were a quite good position, not too low and not too high in rank to possibly attract someone power-hungry.

He shook his head, "A delta, really? What are you right now, if you're not a delta yet?," I looked at him confused, what was he saying?

"I suppose the fact that you won't tell me your status as of right now is because you're a lot lower than that. I can't be with some nobody. As happy as I am to have found you, and I'm sure you're a great person, I cannot have someone as low in the ranks as you as my mate," my vision was beginning to blurr, I didn't understand anything.

Sadness swelled up in me and just as I was about to leave the balcony I heard him mutter something, "Good thing that I've already arranged myself with a girlfriend, she'll be filling the role perfectly."

Wow, what an ass! Doesn't want to be with me because he thinks I'm of a lower rank than him, then tells me he's got a back-up-girlfriend. I turned around and before I knew it, I had smacked him.

"How dare you? How dare you insult me this way! If you want to reject me, fine, go ahead but do not desrespect me like this when all I have done so far is ask you a simple question and have a friendly conversation with you!"

The fact that I was yelling didn't bother me. In fact I couldn't care less that part of my pack had likely gotten wind of the commotion. All I wanted, was to understand. What rank could he possibly be, that would excuse his behaviour?

"Oh, so I'm the bad guy now? Great," he sighed as if already annoyed with our conversation, "I need someone with a high rank to be my mate. Judging from your answer, you won't be that, so I'll have to find someone else."

My wolf had long taken over, our blood was boiling.

"I, Donovan of the Dark Oak Pack, hereby reject my mate," he spoke in a manner as cold as ice. Searing pain began in my chest so strong I almost went to my knees, but I was stronger than that.

"Good to know that you're rejecting me Donovan, well guess what same here. I, Victoria of the Evergreen Pack, hereby reject you, Donovan of the Dark Oak Pack."
