Chapter 19
The week had flown by in a haze of training, Gajeel wanting to keep Avery away from the party planning. Though the day before her birthday, he had to leave for a job. "I'll be back tonight," he said as he ruffled her hair. Avery grinned at him beside Juvia, "No worries Gajeel, Juvia will take care of her." The rain woman said with a smile. Gajeel grinned, "I don't doubt it." With a last hug with Avery, Gajeel and Lily set off for their job. "What foes Avery want to do today?" Juvia asked as they walked hand in hand to the guild. Avery bit her lip slightly before peeking up at her Aunt. "Um, do you remember when I was little? You said that if I asked you'd teach me?" Juvia frowned at the vagueness of her question before she thought. She tapped the finger of her free had on her chin before a specific memory popped into her head.
Juvia grinned down at Avery, "Are you sure?" Avery nodded shyly. "Well, let's go get Levy-chan yeah?" Avery perked up and nodded more excitedly. In the week of rigorous training with her father, Levy had become a constant to Avery. Conjuring targets, working out beside her for motivation and always there to help her lay her dad our on his ass. There had been a number of time when the two women over powered the dragon slayer, though it wasn't for long.
Nearly bursting with excitement, Avery took of at a jog, pulling Juvia with her. They reached Fairy Hills in no time, Avery barely breaking to open the door and hurrying upstairs. Levy was just emerging from her room when Avery rounded the corner. "Levy!" Levy turned with a smile, catching the girl as she lept at her. "Hey Avery! What's your plans for today?" Averys grin was bright. "Grab your swimsuit! "
--------------------------------------------
"Remind me again why we're at the lake?" Levy asked as she set her things down by a cluster of trees. "Aunt Juvia is going to train me!" Avery said as she struggled out of her shirt, revealing a bright yellow swimsuit underneath. "Aunt Juvia is going to teach me water magic!" Avery said excitedly. "When Avery was little," Juvia started as she stood beside Levy. Avery had dived into the lake, splashing about. "She wanted to be strong like Gajeel and Juvia. We had asked her which magic she wanted to learn and she had a hard time deciding. Eventually, she wanted to learn the Magic of dragons." She giggled at the memory, "One day she came to me crying, saying she still loved me but she could only pick one magic. I told her that when she was older, if she wanted, i would teach her my magic as well. Knowing two magics, would make her strong and she could stand by our side."
Levy smiled fondly at the story as they watched the girl splash out of the water, shaking her short black hair. "Come on Aunt Juvia!" Avery shouted, making the women giggle. Juvia she'd her dress, her polka dot bikini underneath. The two walked into the lake till it was waist high and Juvia smiled. "Alright Avery, controlling water is much easier than iron. It's gentler, softer. It flows with a rythem all its own." Juvia slowly moved her hands as she spoke, the water changing direction with her hands. "I want you to hold your hands out, palms to the water, and close your eyes." She waited for Avery to do as she was told.
"With your enhanced hearing this might be easy. I want you to listen to the water, listen to its voice," her voice was far off as she spoke. Levy watched the pair, again wondering why she was there but glad that she was. Avery took a deep breath as she listened, and she suddenly knew what Juvia was talking about. The water seemed to whisper in her ears, the rippling over rocks, the swish of currents around the fish in the deep water. Water was a living thing to a mage like Juvia, and it only made Avery want to learn it more.
"Keep your eyes closed," Juvia whispered, almost afraid to break the calm concentration on the girls face. "I want you to lift the water." Avery found at her Aunts words. "How-" "Trust me. Feel the water, invision it moving up. Move your hands to give it direction, encourage it." Avery took another calming breath as she relaxed again. She slowly raised her hands, listening hard as she heard it move. She could feel it too, the slight receding at her waist, the feel of power starting to tower above her. "Open your eyes love." Juvia said gently with a fond smile. Avery slowly opened her eyes and gapped. A pillar of water rose above her head, nearly as tall as Gajeel. It wasn't as solid as one of her aunts making, but it was there. As Avery felt her excitement rise the water began to ripple, and soon she couldn't contain it.
"Yes!" She screamed, throwing her hands above her head. The pillar exploded, soaking all three women. There was a beat of silence before they burst into laughter. Levy was the first to recover, splashing at the girl in retaliation. Soon, an all out water war had begun, eliciting squeels and fits of laughter. Levy and Avery soon found their error in picking a fight with the water mage in home territory. It was well into the afternoon when the girls were finally laid out on the bank, breathing heavily as they stared at the sky.
"Well, that was the most fun training has ever been." Levy panted. In the end, she too had begun doing the water manipulating exercises right beside Avery, being her support once again. She didn't mind, for she had come to love the small girl and enjoyed being with her all the time. Avery giggled and nodded before sitting up. "Let's get dinner! I bet Mira is making something delicious! " The girl said as she got up, wringing out her hair. Levy and Juvia exchanged quick glances before getting up as well. They couldn't let her go to the guild,"Why doesn't Juvia make us dinner? It's been awhile!" Avery gasped and hugged her aunt tight. "Let's go let's go!" Avery cried before dragging both women back towards Fairy Hills.
