Leaving Home

This is my very first story that I have written. So it might not be that good so bare with me. I will try to update daily. So without further delay here's the story.

Emily's POV October 3rd, 1868

Today I am on a train to go and live with my uncle Aleck. Why? Well since my mother died 2 months ago my father thinks I am too much for him. Since I would not marry a man he wanted me to marry. He sent me away for not just that. Me and my mother looked the same, our black wavy hair and blue eyes and our beautiful faces . I look out the window and see the green grass of Scotland, my home. I see the flocks of sheep. I look down at the blue dress that I was wearing. Mother always said I look best in blue. As I think about her, I can't help but reminisce my very last conversation with her. She looked so ill.

I sit beside my mother, even though father said not to go near her. Doctors came to the house to always try to find out what she was sick with. Every day my father tried to comfort her but he never got infected. I hold my mother's hand. She looks me weakly. What was once a beautiful women was turned into a very thin, shallow eyed, pale person.

" Emily, my sweet sweet Emily," she said in a raspy voice " You should not have to see your mother like this," she tries to muster as much energy as she can to touch my face. I start to cry, seeing her like this makes me upset. " Don't cry sweetheart, I have accepted my fate, do not worry I will be going to a better place, I will be going with God,"

" Mummy, I don't want you to leave me, you'll be leaving me, Erik, and father," I cry. She gives me a pained look and hands me something from under her pillow. It's a sliver locket. " It's beautiful mum," tears are still pouring down.

" Emily, I want you to have this as a memento," I open the locket, there is picture of her, father, Erik, and me as a child," as I am looking at the picture my father comes in.

" Emily, what are you doing in here, you could get infected," he says. I look at him pleadingly.

" Please, don't make me leave," he drags out of the room while I am crying hysterically.

Today

The next day my mother died. The last moment I had with her was cut short by my father. The train stops.

" Whitechapel station! " the train conductor yells. I get off the train with my luggage.

" Emily!" I hear a man say. I turn around and see uncle Aleck

" Uncle!" I shout. He gives me a huge hug.

" It is so good to see you," he says smiling.

" It's good to see you too uncle,"

" Come on lets get you to the carriage back to the shop," he says, " I have had the maids make up a room for you," we get into the carriage.

" Thank you uncle," I say. For most ride to the shop we remained silent.

" I really am sorry to hear that my sister had passed, your mother, I know it must have been pretty hard to see her wither away," he says sadly.

" I was," I say ready to cry again. But I don't. Mother would want me to be strong. We arrive at the shop in Lambeth. It is small. We get out of the carriage and look inside. I see a small table with some blue prints for a new invention.

" Uncle, where is my room? I want to start un-packing," I ask

" It is upstairs," I go upstairs. I open my door and see a room that I guess is mine. I un pack. I had packed some dresses and a few small things that I had, like a picture of my family, a music box, and a few books. I lay down on my new bed. It is comfy, I start to feel tired and I fall asleep.

I wake up the next day and I am terribly hungry. I realize that I am in the same dress that I slept in. I sigh. So I change into a purple one. I walk down and find my uncle at the table.

" Ah, Emily you must be hungry, Mary, could you get Emily something to eat," Mary gives me some toast ,eggs and jam. I eat, then I hear a knock at the door. My uncle gets up and answers the door.

" Ah, Jacob, Evie," I stop eating and get up to see 2 people at the doorway. " Emily, this is Jacob and Evie Frye, Jacob, Evie this Emily,"

" Hello," I say, I look at both of them. The girl, Evie, had brown hair tied into a bun. She had blue eyes and freckles across her nose. The boy, Jacob, had a hat on with his hair slicked back. He had brown hair and brown eyes, and a scar on one of his eyebrows. He was rather handsome.

Well, how was it? Leave a comment in the comment section below. Was it good, bad? Things that I need to improve on.
