Chapter 3

When I wake up, Quinn's gone. I sit up, looking around my room. My mind feels more focused with the sleep I just got. Although I'm still shaken from what happened, I need to go back to school. Otherwise, I'll start failing.

Setting down my wobbly legs, I stumble to the bathroom and do my routine. In an hour, my curls have been put in a side braid, and I wear a cute dress. Something new for me, and not really in my comfort zone, but I still like it.

I hop down the stairs, feeling my mood slowly lift with every passing second. I hear something sizzling in a pan and find Jace and Quinn in the kitchen. Quinn's cutting up fruit, while Jace is cooking grilled cheeses. Quinn suddenly whips his head around to see me, his eyes wide.

"Sera, you're up."

I nod.

"I decided I should go to school, otherwise I can kiss my perfect 'A' record goodbye."

He nods, going back to cutting.

"We were making breakfast for you, but I guess you can just eat it down here," Jace says, still facing the pan.

"Okay."

I sit down at the bar, and a moment later, a grilled cheese and a bowl of fruit are set down in front of me.

"Thanks, Jacey, Quinn," I thank.

"No prob, lil' sis," Jace says.

"You're welcome, Sera," Quinn says.

I smile, eating half before I get queasy. I slide it away from me.

"Thanks, guys. It was delicious. I'm going to get walking-"

"You're driving with me," Quinn states.

"Huh?"

"I'm taking you."

"But, I can walk just fine o-"

"I am taking you, and that is final," Quinn growls lowly.

I back down, fear gripping me for a moment. Jace tenses. Quinn then takes deep breathes, trying to calm down. What happened? Is he bipolar? I don't mean offend him, I just want to know.

"Okay. I'll be, um, in my room, then," I murmur, walking back upstairs.

Not even five minutes later, Quinn walks in, holding my bag and his in one hand like they weigh nothing.

"Sorry I snapped at you, I'm just worried about you," he apologizes.

I nod, smiling slightly.

"It's fine. Are we going now?"

He nods. I get up, and follow him out to his car.

When we arrive at school, people stare at me as I walk next to Quinn. I hear a low growl come from somewhere and everyone goes silent. I scrunch up my nose in confusion. Looking around, everyone suddenly stops talking, even avoiding me. One guy, though, ogles at me, but then his eyes glaze over for a second, and he dashes down the hall.

"What the...?" I mutter.

"What's wrong, Angel?" Quinn asks.

"Why is... what was... never mind," I stutter.

Maybe I'm sleep-deprived, I try to reason with myself. I stick with that explanation, and follow Quinn to our first period.

The day flashes by quickly, until I arrive at my last two periods: art, and P.E.

"Quinn! How am I supposed to run three miles when I can barely even stand right now?" I whisper.

"Sera, I think you'll be fine," Quinn chuckles.

I almost snort. Yeah, sure. He's never seen me in P.E., obviously.

I go in and get dressed in my P.E. uniform, coming out to see groups of guys and girls chatting. I walk by them all awkwardly, holding my arms together. Quinn walks in from the boy's locker room, and walks over to me.

"Hey," he greets.

I wave back meekly, feeling exposed. The athletic shorts go to my mid-thigh, and my shirt doesn't have sleeves. I wish I could wear my jacket over top, but I can't because it's really hot out.

The coach blows his whistle, and we all set out to the track. Once there, we begin jogging.

I start off okay, but as more seconds go by, more people pass me. By one minute, I'm far behind while everyone else is already halfway across the field. How did they even do that? They all move really fast, Quinn in the lead. He flips his head back to me and frowns, but continues running. I try to smile to let him know I'm okay, but the next thing I know, the track is coming closer and closer to my face until I smack face-first into it.

I groan, staying face-first in the ground. Why do these things happen to me?

"Sera?! You okay?!" Quinn calls.

I put a thumbs up in the air, telling him I am okay.

Someone suddenly grabs my arms and helps me up. I look to the person to meet the concerned gaze of a blonde girl with violet eyes and glasses.

"Are you okay?" She asks, concern written all over her face.

I nod, feeling embarrassed.

"Thanks."

"No problem! I'm Violet Gage! What's your name?" He suddenly chirps, her eyes brightening.

"I'm Serafina, but I go by Sera. So, do we continue running?"

She nods sadly. We start back up and I notice she's slow too.

"So, you're new, right?" Violet asks while running.

"Yeah. I moved here from Florida."

"Nice! I moved here from Cali a year ago."

"Cool. So, why is it that everyone else is running like freaking olympians, and we're over here barely running?"

She bites her lip nervously.

"I don't know. Maybe they're just used to this. Most or all of them have lived here their whole lives."

I nod, believing her.

"Hmm, makes sense. So, is it nice here?"

"Oh yes! I love it here!" She giggles.

We continue to run, chatting while doing so. I find out she loves romance novels like me and the color purple. She also loves bunnies.

We're on our last lap, sweating and red in the face.

"Last... couple... feet!" She huffs, gasping in between.

I laugh weakly. Everyone else either went inside, are chatting outside, or are just looking around. Some even watch us with amused faces. We finally finish, and Violet collapses on the ground, coughing and wheezing. She told me she has Asthma, so she tried taking less air in so fast.

A tall guy runs up to us, kneeling down next to Violet.

"Vi?! Bunny, come on, let's go get you your inhaler," he says to her, picking her up.

She wheezes again, shaking her head.

"I'm fine, Tyler, really."

"No, you're not. You need your inhaler. Now," he growls.

She looks down, sighing, which turns into a coughing fit.

"I think you should go get your inhaler, Vi. I don't want you to have an asthma attack," I tell her.

The guy, who's apparently named Tyler, looks to me and smiles.

"You must be Quinn's ma- friend, I mean friend. Serafina, right?" He says.

Violet looks up and glares at his slip-up. What was he about to say? Maid? Manikin? Mama? None of those make sense, Sera.

"Yeah. I'm new in town."

"Figured."

"Anyways, I have to go take my little Bunny to her bag so she can take her inhaler. Bye, Serafina," Tyler says before walking off with Violet still in his arms.

"Oh! Sera! See you in art!" Violet yells, turning back to me.

I smile, nodding. An arm suddenly wraps around my shoulders. I tense, but relax just a bit when I see it's just Quinn.

"Hey, Quinn."

"Hey, Angel. Why were you talking to Tyler?" He asks, a hint of jealousy and protectiveness in his voice?

"We were trying to get Violet to use her inhaler."

He nods, the edge in his eyes gone.

"Come on, let me take you to art."

"I need to change first."

"I guess so."

"You guess so? Quinn, I'm all sweaty and gross!"

He chuckles, letting me go inside the locker room. I change back into my clothes and walk to the art room with Quinn.

"Sera! Sera! Over here!" Violet shouts from a seat.

I giggle and sit down next to her.

"Catch you after class, Angel," Quinn says, winking, before walking back into the hallway.

I blush, weirdly not feeling violated and watched. I actually feel a little flattered.

"Oooh, Quinny has a crush on you!" Violet squeals.

"Quinny?" I ask.

"Mhm! Him and Tyler hang out all the time, so I tag along. I call him that just to annoy him," she giggles.

I giggle as well. We begin class, and it flies by. It's super fun, and the teacher is really nice.

After class, I pack my stuff, and walk out with Violet to see Tyler and Quinn waiting against a wall. Tyler beams when he sees Violet, and scoops her up into his arms, kissing her nose. She blushes, playfully slapping his arm.

"Put me down!" She shouts playfully.

"Nope, you're my prisoner," he jokes.

She bursts out laughing. It's obviously an inside joke, because even Quinn smiles.

"Ready to head out?" Quinn asks us.

I nod.

"Ooh! Can we go out to eat?" Violet asks.

Tyler nods, while Quinn shrugs.

"Sure. Where to, Bunny?" Tyler says.

"Um, Chinese!" She yells, squirming around him Tyler's arms still.

He let's go of her, because she was slipping out of his grip from squirming. She begins to hop up and down, giggling.

"Ooh, I love Chinese! Let's go," I murmur.

Quinn turns to me, smiling.

"Sure, Angel."

I smile.

"Let's go then!" Violet screams, running down the hall to the parking lot.

Tyler laughs, following her. We all head out to a local Chinese restaurant. It looks pretty empty, which is good.

"Come on, come on, come on, come on, come oooon!" Violet whines, dragging a chuckling Tyler along with her.

We head inside, and get a table.

"What are you going to order, Sera?" Violet asks me once we're seated.

"Hmm, the fried rice and veggie dumplings."

"Nice. I'm just getting chow mein. Boys, what'cha' getting?"

"Miso soup," Tyler replies.

"Pork fried rice," Quinn says.

"Cool. Now, what did everyone get on the English test? I got an eighty-eight, I'm so mad," Violet says.

"Seventy-nine," Tyler mumbles, looking down.

Violet slaps his arm.

"Ow, Bunny!" Tyler whimpers.

"You need to focus when I tutor you!" Violet scolds.

"How can I? You're too cute when you're smart. It's too distracting," he smirks, tapping her nose.

She blushes, sinking back into her seat.

"Um, Q-Quinny?" She stutters, still red.

Tyler and Quinn chuckle.

"Ninety-seven."

She nods, then turning to me.

"Did you do the test?"

"Yeah, since I already learned this stuff. My old school had an advance program, which did college and later on Senior lessons, and I was in it. I got a one-hundred."

Quinn whistles.

"Wow, Angel, that's amazing."

I shake my head, blushing.

"It was nothing."

Violet rolls her eyes.

"Aye, you're too modest!" She exclaims.

The food soon arrives and Violet immediately digs in, using chopsticks.

I use a fork, since I don't know how to use chopsticks. Quinn and Tyler do the same as me.

"So, Serafina, how do you like Wimberley so far?" Tyler asks.

I finish my bite of dumpling and say, "It's been okay. I miss Florida and my old friends, but I like it here too."

At least now Ryan can't get to you, a small voice in my head whispers. I smile physically, agreeing with the voice. Ryan can't get me here. Ever.

So, how was that? I don't really know anymore. *shrugs*
