"Serenity! What are you looking at?"

"Huh?" I rip my gaze from Ringo and look at my friend, Margie. "Nothing."

"Sure didn't look like nothing," Margie laughs.

"Okay, fine, I was looking at him," I point at Ringo with my thumb.

"Ew, why him?"

"What do you mean 'ew?'"

"Ringo is a dunce, Ser."

"Excuse me?"

She nods. "Y'know the rumors. People say that he didn't actually graduate back in '58 and that he's secretly paying a teacher to tutor him. That's why he sticks around the school all the time." 

"That's ridiculous, Margaret," I shake my head.

"Ew. Don't call me that!"

"That's what you get for being ridiculous," I shrug. "Besides, you called me Serenity. Anyway, how do you know that's why he's still here?"

Margie's green eyes gleam. "Y'know what they say, Ser. Every rumor has a little bit of truth to it."
