Chapter thirty eight

Gideon was shocked when he saw Naomi running to the school. They were just getting ready to go to her house, thinking she would be sound asleep but no, there she was, in a hoodie and jeans, panting like she was being chased by something. He quickly got over his shock, a little glad that she had made their work easier for them by coming out on her own. But when she turned to run away and stopped and he saw the new guests, he was surprised and shocked. He had never seen something like that before and it was also clear from their stance that they wanted Naomi and he knew he had to act fast. He had already told his father and the rest of the alphas that they would be bringing her tonight and so he can't afford any mistake.

He was still deviating a way to capture her when she suddenly started running at her right. He was stunned at first and just watched her, wondering if the night incident had messed with her brain because she of all people should know that she was running straight to a dead end. He had made a move when he saw the creatures going after and he was almost at her when she twisted her ankle and fell. He had wanted to help her up when she suddenly pushed herself up and started running, or rather, limping. He had to give it to her for her persistence but he also knows that if she keeps on stressing the ankle, it would swell up and look very bad before morning and so he concentrated on his leap and jumped right over her, landing in front of her just in time for his pack mates to surround her.

He saw the look of defeat on her face when she glanced around and saw that they had cornered her. He wished to talk to her but he can only do that if he shift back into human and he doesn't want to do that there. And right then, he heard her defeated voice, "please, please let me go, I haven't done anything." Her words pulled at his heartstrings, she really hasn't done anything but her fate seemed to have been sealed before she was even born.

He nodded at Jasper and ordered him in the mind link to get her before he turned away from her. Perhaps if he doesn't see her tears, he won't feel like he was doing something bad. Jasper mind linked to him that she was successfully secured on Yoshua's back and he set the pace home. He had half expected the creatures to fight them for her but the last time he had looked at them, they were just watching them and it almost felt like their work was to deliver her right in their hands. He shook of the feelings that maybe someone was somewhere dictating how the night would go and just carried on home. However, they hadn't gone far when he appeared out of thin air.

The weird boy he had seen on the first day he resumed school and who happened not to show up again in school for the past two weeks. He had always known there was something off about the boy and the fact that he couldn't really place his scent but he knew for a fact that he doesn't smell human which he had just proved to him right now by appearing out of thin air. His eyes were black, devoid of any emotion and Gideon knew instantly that if the boy is to fight, he would be fighting to kill.

A shrilling sound made him turn back to see the two shadowy creatures running towards them. He prepared his warriors in the mind link instantly for a fight but to his surprise, the creatures ran past them to the boy in front and he watched in horror as the boy moved in an unbelievable speed that shocked him and definitely couldn't be mustered by a human to avoid their attacks.

'Who is he?' he heard Jasper's shocked voice in his mind but he couldn't answer, even he doesn't know who the boy was. However, one thing was for a fact, he was a trained fighter because the way he fought the creatures was so precise and each move was detailed and carefully thought out that in less than three minutes, the creatures was subdued and they evaporated into smithereens.

The boy turned to them now and he regretted instantly why they had watched the fight instead of making a run for it. However, something shocked him, as the boy looked at them, his black eyes turned a glowing blue and his stern voice rang loud and clear in his mind.

'You have the nerve to take her. Have you no care for your lives?'

'High Alpha?' Jasper's confirmation in the mind link shocked Gideon the more.

Impossible, he thought, the boy doesn't look that much older than him. At most, he would be in his early twenties, how can he be the High Alpha that had chased his clan for centuries? That is utterly impossible.

"Asher," Naomi breathed out in relief as her eyes were clouded with fresh tears like she had seen her savior and just with his presence around, everything would be okay.

'Do you have any idea what I would do if you get me pissed?' Asher's voice rang in their minds.

'Future Alpha,' Gideon could hear the warriors calling out to him, wondering what to do and how they could handle the current situation.

"You are the unknown pack wolves," Asher said this time, walking up to them. "You have been making appearances a lot this year and for no just reason. I have been tracking you and the other day, I almost had you and now you delivered yourself into my hands?"

Gideon could hear the loud beating of his heart now. It was finally making sense, the boy's words had just confirmed that he was that big sliver wolf that they had met that night, and which means that he really is the High Alpha. Could it be, that after centuries of hiding, he has finally caught them?

"I didn't come here for you tonight and I am willing to let you go in order to chase you the next time I see you and that is if you let her go. But if you refuse, I don't mind killing you all and then track your home with the smell of your blood, killing the rest of your families as well. Do you want that, rogues?"

The more he spoke, the more scared Gideon got and now hearing him call them rogues only prove that he really knows of their origin. He thought about his father and the rest of the alphas waiting back at home. He had emphasized so much that he would be bringing the girl tonight and thinking of going home empty handed didn't sit well with him. However, he just needs to remember how the boy had fought those creatures that even he knew he wouldn't have been able to win a fight with to make his decision. And so turning to Yoshua, he ordered in the mind link to drop Naomi.

Seeing her release, Naomi happily stood up to run to Asher but she had forgotten her ankle pain and so she fell with a wince only to be shaken in fear at Asher's voice, "you hurt her?!"

"No," she shouted, shaking her head frantically, "they didn't, I tripped when I was being chased and fell."

Hearing her words, Asher seemed to calm and with a wave of his hand, pulled Naomi to him telepathically, shocking their audience the more. However, he didn't give them the time to digest what happened and just teleported out of the place, with Naomi safe in his embrace.

Gideon stared at the spot that once held the boy and even though he couldn't explain what just happened, he knew it deep in his bones that he was in a lot of trouble tonight and the fact that the High Alpha seemed to be stronger than what any book wrote about him doubled it.

Asher appeared in the living room of his manor and he let go of Naomi and bent over to check her ankle. "why were you running?" he asked, his voice was a little distant and Naomi noticed.

"Are you okay?" she asked.

"I'm fine," he replied, casually touching her slightly swollen ankle.

Naomi watched him, he was acting different than he normally does and his action reminded her of her dream immediately. She licked her lips and kept her eyes locked on him, "you don't want to be here with me?"

At her words, Asher looked up, his eyes were still blue but there weren't glowing like before. "Why would you say that?"

"Because you are acting it," she smiled softly but her smile was pained and she removed her leg from his hand, making him frown. "I'm sorry if I called you out of anything important. I don't even know how you were able to know where I am but nevertheless, I am glad that you did because you really saved me. However, I am okay now, you can go back to whatever you were doing before."

"What is that supposed to mean?" Asher asked, standing up to his full height.

"It's obvious that you don't want to be here and I don't want to keep you longer than I should." She turned and started limping towards the front door.

"Naomi."

"No, it's okay, Asher, I understand. Honestly, I do," she turned to smile at him but it didn't reach her eyes. "I really do."

"What the hell are you going on about?" Asher asked, his tone wasn't soft anymore and it actually made Naomi shiver.

"You are different."

"I am different!" he replied and as if noticing he was raising his voice, he heaved a sigh. "I have managed to merge my powers, so I am different."

"Why is that?" she asked, really concerned and interested. "If you merge your powers, why would that make you different?"

"It made me stronger, I can control any of my powers anytime now."

"It still doesn't make any sense to me."

"Just leave it be, okay?" he turned away from her.

Seeing his action, Noami nodded, turned and walked out of the door.
