Chapter forty two

"Explain, Irene," Edward was the first to find his voice and he asked without his eyes leaving Naomi and at that moment, they shone a bright blue as he perused her. He heaved a sigh of relief second later and his eyes toned down to midnight blue.

"It's not me that needs to explain but Asher, don't you think?" Irene asked.

"Asher, I don't understand, what is going on?" Naomi asked, feeling scared and anxious at the same time.

Asher licked his lips, wanting to comfort her but also knowing that he needs to answer his elders. "It-it just kind of happened. I can't even explain it. I just saw it this morning and had to bring her over to hear from you, aunt Irene."

"Why me, what can I do, you have marked her," Irene replied.

"The good thing is that the mark has not been embedded on her soul," Edward spoke up, his eyes going to his son now, "and that is because you have not accepted it. The mating mark cannot lay a claim to a soul if the marker does not accept it. You and I are the first accidental mark I have ever heard of. Mine turned out to be with my mate, so I got lucky because the mark became deep-rooted the moment I started considering her my mate and when she marked me, the bond became complete. The blood moon night is in eight days, I guess we have till then to find out if she is your mate just like your mother is mine."

"She can't be my mate," Asher said, shocking everyone around.

"Why is that?" Rasmus asked.

"She is human," Asher answered.

Edward shrugged, "it doesn't change anything. I am a Nightwalker and your mother a Night Howler, our union was considered an abomination when it was newly revealed and at the end, here we are."

"Plus, how did our kind multiply?" Sean asked, "it started with our ancestors mating with humans and Prince David who was the Alpha king initiating the mated humans and turning them into one of us. As the future Alpha king, you have nothing to worry about, you just have to hold an initiation ceremony for her and make her one of us or you ask High Alpha Damien to do it for you if you don't want to yet."

"Exactly," Edward concurred.

"I'm sorry," Naomi spoke up softly, "I think you misunderstand. It's not that Asher is afraid I'm not his mate but that he doesn't want me to be his mate."

"Don't say that," Asher reprimanded her immediately.

"That's what it looks like ever since you saw the mark. You even refused to tell me what it was no matter how I ask and the next thing I know, we are here and I have to find out that the tattoo on my neck is not even a tattoo at all, but a mating mark. Your kinds mating mark." Naomi smiled sadly, "to top it up, you had been so scared since you saw it."

"Because it's not supposed to be. I told you, the blood moon night helps us find our mate and then we mark them, not a careless bite turning into a mating mark," Asher explained.

'You don't love her, Asher?' Sean asked in the mind link for only them to hear.

'No...I mean...I-I don't know, it's just so sudden.'

'But you were with her last night?'

'Yes, like I have been with other women whom I have casually bitten as well but you don't see them showing up with a mating mark.' Asher responded difficultly that it showed on his face.

"No mind linking, Sean," Edward warned.

"Yes, your majesty," Sean bowed.

"Majesty?" Naomi asked shocked. She was blown away by what that address might mean despite what was going on.

"Oh, guess Asher isn't transparent to you like I had thought," Edward glanced at her. "What did he tell you?"

"That he is a werewolf," Naomi explained.

"He is much more than that, little one, but I would let him do the justice," Edward said. "As it is, we don't know your fate with him for now and the blood moon night is still eight days away. If the news gets out that a human was accidentally marked by my son, you might have strange visitors who might not mean harm but I can't say for his past lovers. So, to ensure your safety for now as it is clear my son needs to figure out where he stands with you, I would advice you stay in the palace till the blood moon night. Or is there an objection, Asher?"

"I want her to meet Aunt Irene."

"Me?" Irene was surprised that it fell back at her once more. "What for?"

"There are things we need to explain to you. I can't figure it out yet so I need your expertise."

"I'm sorry," Naomi spoke up, "I can't stay here, my father, he would be worried."

"Asher can fix that," Rasmus said.

"How?" she asked.

"He knows how," Sean added.

Naomi glanced at Asher and he nodded at her. "We will drop by to see him and let him know, also, you need to pick up some of your clothes. Eight days might not be far but you still need to change." He said.

"While you are at it, figure out a gift for your mother, her birthday is in two days," Edward announced.

Asher was shocked, "Already?"

"Indeed," Edward nodded and without another word, teleported from the room.

Naomi wasn't too surprised, after all, when the man had visited her, he didn't hide it from her that he can appear and disappear when he so wishes.

"I need to head back to the pack, I will tell Anita about your recovery, Asher. It was a pleasure to meet you, Naomi, I guess," Sean frowned but he shrugged and turned to Irene, "see you later, Irene, Rasmus," and with that, he walked out of the palace.

"I will go have a look around, see how things are going," Rasmus said to Irene before sprinting away but everyone knew he just wanted to give them space.

"So, what is this you can't wait to tell me?" Irene asked when they were alone.

"Take a good look at her, Aunt Irene, what do you see?" Asher asked.

Irene did as was told and Naomi could only stand without knowing what was going on. "She is human," she said after some time.

"Not that," Asher shook his head.

"You have to tell me what I am looking for."

"She can predict things," he announced.

"Excuse me?" Irene raised an eyebrow.

"Just like you, she has these visions. She was able to foresee the deaths of three of her classmates and it all came to pass."

Irene's gray eyes shone with interest immediately. "Tell me more."

Asher turned to Naomi and urged her to talk.

"She is the witch you told me about?" she asked and Asher nodded. She turned to Irene and said, "what more should I say?"

"Since when have you been having these visions?" Irene asked.

"Since I was little."

"How little?"

"Ten."

"What have you been able to see, like what is more constant?"

Hearing that, Naomi shrugged, "the usual. Normal stuff. I only saw death from nearly two months ago and I have only seen it twice. Then and two weeks ago, the one Asher was around."

"How does it happen, you dream or...?"

"When I dream, its something that is going to happen to me but if its for others, I just have to touch them or bump into them. Like if they just touch me or..."

"You mean by contact," Irene helped.

"Yes," she nodded, "by contact."

"Where is your mother?"

"She is dead, I never knew her."

"Typical."

"What?" Naomi was surprised at her words.

"A pure blood witch's mother always dies during childbirth. No pure blood witch has ever been raised by her biological mother."

"Does that mean she is a witch?" Asher asked, bring Irene's gaze on him.

"I don't know, I will need to see her father to know what he knows about her mother. No matter what, we can't erase the fact that she is human or half human depending on what my investigation brings. A vision is not supposed to be only by contact, it is supposed to just happen, you don't have to feel or see who it's about. But maybe, that's how her own goes or maybe it's because her pure blood has been tainted by a human, I don't know. I will have to find out more to know."

"But...it's possible she is a witch?" Asher asked.

"It's leading to it, I have never heard of a human that can see vision in my nine hundred and forty-two years."

"I-I'm sorry, your what?" Naomi asked just to be sure.

"942 years," Irene smiled.

"You are 942 years old," Naomi had to make sure her ears weren't deceiving her.

"You heard right," Asher said and she glanced at him. "What?"

"If she is your aunt and she is 942 years old, then how...how old are you?"

Asher smiled, "I'm not that old. I'm just twenty-five."

"What?" Naomi was still shocked. "You are in high school!"

"Funny, I am actually a graduate."
