Chapter forty seven
Naomi stared at the waiter’s leaving back and his words still ring in her mind. She stared at the goblet in her hand, there was a reddish liquid inside and it was thick and not watery like regular wine. It had a peculiar smell as well and smelt nothing like grapes. She frowned, bringing the goblet to her nose to have a sniff and when she did, she almost retched and instantly covered her nose with her hand, staring at the goblet in her hand in wonder and disbelief. If she didn’t know better, she would say that the wine smells like…blood.
“Don’t drink that,” she heard and turned to see Asher walking towards her in haste movements. The fanfare sounded and his presence was announced but he didn’t even spare anybody a glance and just walked up to her. She could clearly see everyone that wanted to greet him and how shocked they all were at his quick strides. When he got to her, he took the goblet from her. “This is not for you.”
“I…” Naomi wanted to speak but couldn’t phrase her words. She glanced at the guests and she didn’t need to be told that Asher standing beside her has put her in the spotlight.
“A human?” she heard someone said and froze up immediately. Has her cover been blown? Are they going to tear her to shreds? Asher wouldn’t let that, right?
A light chuckle made her glance at the man beside her and she turned to him sharply. “No one here would dare lay a hand on you, trust me,” Asher smiled, tucking a tendril of hair behind her ear. He didn’t know why but he actually thought her as the most beautiful woman in the party. He cleared his throat then and turned to the guests, wanting to get his mind away from her because at the moment, all he wanted to do was kiss her and he definitely can’t do that, at least, not with everyone in the room, since they want to hide the mark or something.
“Your highness,” Everyone bowed seeing Asher’s attention on them. Naomi noticed that even the group of people sitting down all stood up to bow for him as well and she made a mental note to ask him about them.
The fanfare sounded once more and everyone’s attention turned to the door, “The royal majesties, The king and Queen,” a voice announced and the double gigantic doors were opened to reveal Edward and Aliyah. They were dressed in their royal attires and Aliyah looked so beautiful in her white dressed that she made people gasped in awe.
Everyone bowed in greetings, including Asher and Naomi had to join, chanting, “Long live the king and Queen.”
Edward showed his arm and Aliyah looped her hand in it and they walked majestically to their thrones. Edward gaze met Asher’s and he bowed to him. With a nod, Edward continued on his path. When they were seated, the party officially began.
Now with everyone having the times of their lives, Naomi glanced at Asher and she constantly saw him looking at the goblet in his hand with a look of…desire? Remembering what the liquid smelt like, she couldn’t understand why Asher would long for it, or perhaps, she was mistaken? “Asher,” she called softly.
“Hmm?” he answered, tearing his gaze from the red liquid and she noticed his eyes were a little shade red.
“What is that?” she asked, “and who are they?” she turned to the group of people, now chatting around with the majesties. “And what does Nightwalker mean?”
“Where did you hear that?” Asher asked, “the Nightwalker word.”
“Anita told me. She told me they are the council leaders,” she pointed at them as well. “I can’t help but notice that they only drink what is in the goblet. Why?”
Asher licked his lips and knew it was time to tell her all about his identities. “You remember when I told you that I merged my powers?”
Naomi nodded, “and I have wondered what you mean by that and why it would change you.”
“Well, you didn’t wonder the important one,” he chuckled, “if I am only a werewolf, why would I need to merge my powers?”
Hearing that, Naomi frowned, that is true, if he is only a werewolf, why would he merge his powers? At that moment, she remembered that faithful day, the day that had brought them closer. He had told her or rather, whatever that possessed him that called himself Darkness, had told her that his host was many things. She glanced at him then, “what are you?”
Asher stared deep in her hazel eyes, “Nightwalker means Vampire. Those people, they are the vampire leaders and everyone you see drinking from a goblet, is a vampire.”
Naomi couldn’t believe her ears, she couldn’t believe that she has been comfortable roaming around in a party filled with vampires. Her shocked eyes left Asher and glanced through the people in the party in a new light. Now seeing the pale skinned guests with the goblets in their hands, she could feel her heart thumping loudly in her chest and the thought of how this people can easily drain the blood out of her made her want to disappear.
“Hey, hey,” Asher placed a hand on her shoulder, “they won’t hurt you, they won’t try to, not here anyway. And if they know you are with me, they will never think of it ever again.”
His words calmed her but only for a little bit and she glanced at him, tearing her gaze from the predators in the room. “Tell me, what about the waiters?” she asked, remembering the waiter earlier.
“Only the ones in black. The ones in white are a mixture of werewolves and demons.”
“D-d-demons?” Naomi whispered in fear.
Asher smiled sadly, “yes, there are demons here. Different clans. My father, he is the demon king.”
“What?” Naomi stared at where Edward was seated and chatting with some people that had been in the party earlier before the nightwalkers arrived. Just at that moment, she saw a waiter in black, serving Edward one of the goblets. Her eyes widened open as he took it and her mouth dropped open when he sipped from it and when he brought the goblet down, she saw his eyes flash red. “Asher, your father…”
“Is a vampire,” Asher finished for her and when she glanced at him, he said, “remember when you asked why my eye color changes?” she nodded and he smiled softly, “it’s because of my different identities. My father is the vampire original, the first vampire to ever roam this earth. Him and his men. But they are long dead, living my father as the only original alive. The council leaders, they are the second generation of vampires, their parents were my father’s men. Their strengths are second to that of my father and it made them the second strongest of the vampires. I am one of them, I am a second generation.”
“You are saying you are a…vampire,” she said as if repeating it would help her digest it. It was then that she finally understood that night in the cave, the things he said and the reason to killing two of her father’s men. “You killed them so that you won’t kill me.”
Knowing what she was referring to, Asher nodded. “Yes, I couldn’t bear to hurt you.”
Naomi said nothing, her mind still making the connections. “But, if your father is a vampire, how is he the demon king?”
At that, Asher smiled, “because he is a demon. He is a vampire as much as he is a demon and the eternal fire chose him. The eternal fire is what chooses the demon kings and thus, making my father one.”
“That is to say, you are a vampire, a demon, and a werewolf?” this time, she looked deep into his eyes.
Asher nodded. “Yes, and if you are wondering, my mother is the werewolf. An alpha breed. So because of her linage, I am born alpha. Only that there is a twist, I am not just an alpha, like I told you earlier, I am the future alpha king. The current alpha king is the white-haired man talking to my father at the moment,” he glanced at the throne and Naomi followed his gaze and saw the man laughing at what someone must have said. “I am his successor. He should have passed down the title to me by now but I am not ready yet.” He turned back to her and drinking the blood in the goblet, he dropped it on the floor and grabbed her hands in his.
Naomi stared at him, his eyes were now red but slowly, they went back to blue. She gulped, not knowing what he wants to say but also too shocked to say anything.
“I didn’t tell you all these before because I didn’t think there was a need,” Asher gulped. “So now, let me introduce myself to you. I am Prince Asher Alexander the third, a second-generation vampire, the demon prince and the future high alpha.” He sighed deeply and licked his lips, “after the blood moon night, I have the power to make you like me, a little like me. I can either turn you into a vampire, or give you a wolf. You can take your time to decide the one you would want to be…as my mate.”
