Chapter forty five
"Aliyah is mated to a Nightwalker?" Someone asked and the other nodded.
"Yes, my mate told me after they returned from the fight early this morning."
"Is that possible? She is the alpha's daughter for crying out loud. Are we going to have a nightwalker as an alpha?"
"It's true, I heard the same thing. My brother told us this morning. What are we going to do?"
"How do you think the alpha is reacting to the news?"
"I don't know but he has been inside the Great hall with the Elders since they came back. I heard Elder Maximus is making a big deal out of it."
"Who wouldn't? I would if I can voice my opinion. I am definitely not going to have a nightwalker as my Alpha."
"But I heard he is a strong one. They said he killed twenty Nebuzars without suffering an injury."
"Nebuzars? What are Nebuzars?"
"They are demons and legend has it that they hate us."
"All demons hate us."
"True. But has anyone seen Aliyah today?"
"No. My brother said the nightwalker took her with him."
"God, what are we going to do? Is the Great War going to repeat itself now?"
"What are you all doing here?" Sean asked angrily and the gossiping girls shrieked in fright on seeing him.
"Future Beta," the oldest one smiled. "We are just discussing."
"Do that in the training ground," Sean ordered.
"Future Beta, is it true what they are saying? Is Aliyah really mated to a nightwalker?"
"Go for your trainings and stop worrying over things that you can't solve. Now," he ordered and they scurried away. Sean sighed and watched them leave, he knew he can't keep chasing them away like that. Very soon is going to go around the whole pack and even the Omegas would hear of it. However, he was mostly worried what would happen when the other packs hear of it. Blue Moon pack would definitely be a laughing stock, no doubt. "Fuck Aliyah, what were you thinking?" he thought aloud.
'Sean, report to the Great Hall immediately,' Beta Aton ordered in the mind link.
'Yes sir,' Sean replied and jogged towards the great hall, wondering what they want from him now.
When he got there, he pushed open the double doors and heaved a long sigh when he saw the long line of elders and older warriors. His father was standing beside the angry Alpha and the Luna was just sitting with her eyes closed. He saw his mom messaging her shoulders and he knew it was her way of comforting her. The Alpha had sent some warrior wolves to search for Aliyah but they had returned an hour ago without her. The good thing is that he could still feel her mind link, otherwise he was sure the alpha would have been going berserk.
The man's cold brown eyes landed on him and he looked down immediately as he felt his hair stand on end. "Sean, I am going to ask this only once, were you aware of this whole thing?"
"Alpha..."
"Think before answering. I want the truth, nothing but the truth because if I find out that you lied to me, I would strip you off your title as the Future Beta and sentence you to death by execution."
"Alpha," Aton rushed to say.
"No Aton," Alan raised his hand to stop him, his eyes not leaving the younger boy that was bowing to him. "But if you tell me the truth, I will consider a lighter punishment. Mind you, I will not be exiling you if you lie to me, I will be killing you, kill," he repeated.
Sean sighed and closed his eyes. "I only found out about it two days ago."
"What?" Everyone asked and Sean could feel his mother's gaze on him.
"How?" Alan asked.
Sean looked up at his father, he had told him what Aliyah told him about the nightwalker's strength and he was sure his father had relayed everything to the alpha already. He looked up at the alpha and stood his ground, as a Beta, he shouldn't cower even at the face of death. "I had followed Aliyah into the woods early in the afternoon when I noticed Steven was trailing her. I confronted him after and we sparred and during that, we were attacked by the rogues, advanced ones and deranged. The nightwalker had showed up and helped us kill them, Steven and I had turned against him but he almost killed us and only spared us because Aliyah begged. After that, she told us the truth about them. I had been disappointed so I left and I still was at Aliyah for hiding such news from me until last night."
Alan nodded. "Go on."
"There is nothing much again, Alpha. I only gave Aliyah listening ear last night before the attack when she told me he is an Original, or that it was what he told her."
"You only found out two days ago?" Alan asked.
"Yes Alpha."
"And if I found out you are lying to me?"
"Then I will willingly take my punishment, Alpha," Sean said with his head held high.
"I am going to summon Steven now, if his story corresponds with yours, then I will believe you but if it doesn't..." Alan warned, his eyes burning coldly before he turned to the man guarding the doors, "send for the young Alpha."
"Yes, Alpha," the man bowed and opened the doors and walked away.
Sean stood in his spot, his eyes locked with his mother's who was clearly worried about him and he smiled to reassure her. He can understand her worry. He always tells a lie to the Alpha to protect Aliyah and he knew she must think he was doing the same now.
After a long three minutes, the doors opened again and Steven entered, followed by the man earlier. "I understand you want to see me, Alpha?"
"Yes. Steven, why did you want to attack my daughter?" Alan asked.
"What?" Steven asked. "Why would I want to do that?"
"You tell me. Sean here said you wanted to attack my daughter."
Sean's eyes popped open in shock but he knew better than to call his Alpha out and so he sighed and lowered his head when he felt Steven's gaze on him.
Steven took his gaze back to Alan. "I didn't want to attack your daughter. We are on our way to becoming friends before all these happened."
"Then what happened in the woods?"
"Oh, that one," Steven sighed. "Okay, then I wanted to spar with her and the deal was that if I win, she would tell me what really happened to my brother."
"So what happened?" Alan asked.
"Your future Beta showed up. I ended up sparring with him instead which I was wining by the way before the rogues attacked and the nightwalker showed up and killed them. He almost killed us too, even though we gave our best to the fight. He is just too strong but Aliyah saved us and told us then that they are mates. You future Beta got angry and left, nothing much," he shrugged.
Emily sighed in relief and she heard her mate's own as well. They had both been worried that Sean might be protecting Aliyah and so lied.
Alan nodded after hearing what Steven had to say. He glanced at Sean before taking his gaze back to the young alpha. "So, after that, what did you do? Did you tell your father? I mean, my daughter broke the highest rule."
Steven shook his head and exhaled, "no."
"Why? You two are not friends. For Sean, I understand why he would keep quiet, but you, why?"
"It's nothing."
"That's not true. We all know that you have been blaming us for your brother's condition, so definitely you will take any chance to get to get back at us. With your news, you could summon the High Howlers at us, have us punished or even my daughter killed, but you didn't. Why?"
"Because that night after seeing my father off and their cars drove off, the damned nightwalker met me when Tom excused himself and he vowed to kill me if I say a thing." He revealed and ran his fingers through his black hair. "But even without that, I wasn't really thinking of telling anyone. I wanted to see how far she could keep the secret. It is such a big news that she can't hide forever."
"Exactly what I said," Elder Maximus finally spoke up. "We can't keep this a secret, it is big news. The earlier we tackle it the better or if the High Howlers finds out, the whole pack would suffer the consequences."
Scarlet sighed and opened her eyes. Her blue gaze going straight to the elder, "then what do you propose we do, Elder Maximus?"
"The next right thing,' he said.
"Which is?" Alan asked.
"Kill Aliyah."
