"Grian Birb, please report to the principal's office."
The announcement was made over the loudspeaker. Mumbo, who sat beside Grian, glanced over at his friend. Grian quietly put everything away and stood up. Why was he wanted? What did he do wrong? Did he even do anything wrong?
Upon reaching the principal's office, Grian stepped inside to be greeted by Ms. Plawn.
"He's waiting for you inside." She gestured to the door behind her. Grian nervously stepped inside. Seated at the desk was a man with dark brown hair and blue eyes. Xisuma Shashwammy Void said the nameplate on top of the desk. The man looked up as he heard the door close behind the avian.
"Grian Birb?" Grian nodded.
"Well, Grian," Xisuma said. "You requested for a dorm didn't you?"
"Yes sir," Grian said.
"Call me X," Xisuma said. "That's what everyone calls me. Anyways, you will be sharing a dorm with..." Xisuma muttered softly to himself, rummaging through the papers on his desk. "It took a while to find someone who wanted a roommate, but you'll be rooming with Scott Smajor."
"Thank you, si- X."
"No problem," Xisuma said smiling. "Here are the keys." The brunet passed the blond a set of keys with a tag on it. Just then, the end of school bell rang. "I forgot to mention. Scott wants to show you around the dorm first."
"Oh, okay. Um- Thanks again," Grian said, leaving.
"Well?" Mumbo asked. The two friends were walking out of the door surrounded by bustling students.
"Just a dorm for me," Grian said, dangling the keys in front of the taller.
"You gonna explore it first?"
"Yea. Of course."
"X was nice wasn't he?" Mumbo said, smiling.
"Yea. He was. But aren't all principals?"
"Well, XIsuma's as nice as one can get. At least half the school sees him as a father figure."
"A father figure?"
"Yes. He's almost like the school therapist or something. His office is always unlocked for any students that want to talk. And if he's not there, most likely he's at Scar's bakery." The two stopped at a coach station. "Well, this is where I take my leave," Mumbo said. "See you tomorrow!"
"Bye!" Grian watched as his friend got onto the coach. Sighing, Grian looked down at the keys. Checking the tag, Grian realized he was just across the street from his dorm.
"Grian!" Pearl swooped down on her cousin.
Grian let out a yelp of shock and surprise. "PEARL!" He turned around to see the brown haired girl who was grinning. "YOU CAN'T DO THAT-"
"But I just did," Pearl said snickering. "Anyways, mum told me you're getting a dorm. I'm assuming you're moving in today?"
"Yes," Grian grumbled.
"Well, mum said that she's bringing your stuff over and she wanted to know where your dorm was." Pearl snatched the keys out of Grian's hand despite his protests. "Huh, you're sharing a dorm with Scott?"
"Yea. You know him?"
"Yea, I do," Pearl said. "I'll go tell mum." And with that, Pearl tossed him his keys and flew off.
Grian watched as Pearl disappeared into the distance. He broke his stare and glanced at the house across the street. Geez, this college campus is huge.
Crossing the street, Grian approached the house he was staying in. Dorm 145. Walking up to the front door, Grian was about to unlock the door when a voice interrupted him.
"Hi! You must be Grian," said a Scottish voice. The said blond turned around to be greeted by a boy with cyan hair and bright cyan eyes.
"That's me," Grian said, smiling.
"Pearl told me her mum was getting your stuff. So- Want a tour of the dorm?"
"Sure."
As Scott stepped into the house, Grian realized there was a pair of white wings on his roommate's back. How did he not notice that before?
"Our rooms are upstairs. Usually every dorm should have anywhere from 2 to 3 people. I got one for myself, however."
"And now you have to share with me. You poor unfortunate soul," Grian said, sighing over dramatically.
"Yes I do," Scott said, playing along. "I hate you."
"Ugh! How could you?!" Grian gasped and placed the back of his hand to his forehead.
"How could YOU?" Scott placed his hands on his hips and huffed, turning his head to the side.
Both boys laughed, having to use each other for support.
"I think we're going to get along amazingly," Scott wheezed.
