Part 17

Samy's POV

I stood motionless for about three minutes after the call got disconnected.

It took effort to move my legs. Million thoughts were cooking in my brain. I didn't expect this twist in my life.

"Sid and my cousin Sasy were lovers before? ... Shit! ... Whom is she marrying? That Sonia asked if she was marrying Sid? I didn't bother to check anything about the groom .. actually I didn't even think about it or checked how he looks like?" The thoughts in my mind were driving me crazy.

I remember seeing the invitation and definitely it was not Sid's name.

"Maybe Sid has another name .. and if it is Sid .. what ? .. Oh my fucking God!  .. I would die on the spot if I have to watch this unfolding in front my eyes in the next hour. No ... I can't wait .. I need to find out now." My heart almost stopped thinking about the possibility.

I clutched my chest and moved towards the groom's room to check out who he really was?

My heart was racing like a bullet rain and I almost ran upstairs unable to bear the suspense. I moved through three rooms and stopped suddenly in front of the groom's room.

There were talking loudly inside. I could hear the noises. I started praying to God, hoping it wasn't Sid.

"Dhak .. Dhak .. dhak .. " It was my heart beating loudly as I stood by the door and turned slowly to peek inside.

I scanned the faces slowly until my vision hit the person in groom's clothes and I turned my head away quickly. I was holding my breath and needed a moment to compose myself.

It wasn't Sid.

"Thank you God .. Thank you so much." I felt the weight lifted from my shoulders and I stepped into the room confidently.

"Hello dear .. do you need anything." The groom's mom asked me and she was definitely not Sid's mom as I knew his mom.

"No auntie, I am the bride's sister and checking if everything is ok."

"Oh! Thank you dear! We will be down in few minutes." She answered, coming towards me.

I thanked her and left to join the party downstairs. I was still confused, though not too much worried about the wedding anymore, as I had already confirmed that the groom was not Sid.

"Why did Sonia talk sbout Sid? I knew Sasi and Sid went to same college and what happened there? If they were sweethearts why didn't Sasi tell me about it? Instead she sent me on a goose chase on a murder story about Sid's roommate. This mystery around Sid's college days got more murkier now."

I went around the wedding hall smiling at everybody with a big artificial smile plastered on my face as my brain went into overdrive thinking about the possibilities.

I was in charge of taking care of Sasi's friends, who came to the wedding, and was helping the waiters to pass on the drinks. At that moment I reveived another shock as I couldn't help myself from overhearing the conversation going on between her friends.

Friend 1: "Hey bro why are you turning back and watching the enterance every few minutes?"

Friend 2: "Checking if Sid is gonna appear out of nowhere and snatch the bride."

Hearing Sid's name, my ears went into overdrive again, and the same uneasy feeling started creeping into my
abdomen. I stayed put to hear more of the conversation.

Friend 3: "Want to bet on this wedding? .. Sid has a history of kidnapping brides at the last moment. He did it for other friends .. so who knows .. he may do the same for himself."

Friend 4: "Shutup guys .. no bad talk about Sas. That is all history .. Sasi is starting new life, so don't talk about the past."

Friend 1: "Ok .. Ok  .. no one here knows about Sid  .. so we are cool." He replied looking around.

They stopped talking. It was clear from their conversation that there was some history between Sid and Sasi, that I wasn't aware of.

After I thought more about it, I understood why Sasi and Samira use to stop talking and change topics, whenever I approached them.

Also it became clear to me that Sasi didn't want me to marry Sid and threw in the wrench in my wedding, turning my parents against Sid.

"But what happened to their love story? Did it end badly? Did Sid cheat on her with his roommate?"

It was obvious Sasi didn't like Sid's roommate and talked bad about her, blaming her for getting pregnant and killed.

"But how close were Sid and Sasi? Did they kiss? Shit .. they might have done more naughty stuff."

A shiver ran through my body imagining them kissing and then me and Sid kissing.

"Eew .. yuck .. did me and my cousin kiss the same guy? I should have never let Sid touch me without knowing the entire history."

I started hating Sid for the first time.

"I need to get to the bottom of this .." I  thought, but knew it wasn't the right time to ask questions.

I knew Samira would have the answers, as she was Sasi's closest friend, but I didn't want to spoil Sasi's wedding and a new beginning for her, though she threw a wrench into my life.

Afterall she was my cousin, so definitely she would look out for me. Sid probably cheated on her and hurt her badly and she did whatever she had to, to save me from Sid and getting hurt in future. I would do the same for her in that position.

The wedding time was getting closer and closer and my nervousness was hitting peak levels.

I was watching the front entrance nervously wondering if the stories about Sid were real and would he come swooping in to rescue his college sweetheart.

Nothing happened and Sasi's wedding went without a hitch. Sid didn't come and I breathed a sigh of relief, not sure if I still love or hate Sid.

Next day everyone was leaving to their respective destinations. Sasi and her husband were also flying out to Mauritius for their honeymoon.

Me and my parents were catching the evening train back to our place. I managed to pull Sasi away, to a corner, for a quick chat.

"Sas how u feeling? Are you really happy with this wedding?"

She immediately hugged me and started crying.

"Samy, I wish things were different, but most of the time they don't work out for me. I am sorry if I hurt you in any way, but I did it, only because I didn't want you to get hurt like me. Hope you will understand and forgive me."

I could feel the pain in her voice. I wasn't sure how much she loved Sid, but he clearly hurt her.

Seeing her crying like that made me more mad over Sid and a weird feeling bubbled inside my tummy. I wasn't sure if it was hatred towards Sid or all the food I eat.

I was afraid, I was going to throw up on her. I released her immediately patting her back.

"Sas, don't worry about the past. You are starting a new life, so don't think about anything and enjoy your honeymoon to the fullest. You have responsibilities now, so take care of your husband. No matter what, we are sisters and I will be always there for you."

I left with my parents to the Railway station, feeling happy for Sasi but unable to shake the weird feeling within me. I switched off my phone to get a good night's rest on the train.

We reached our home the next day and I was leaving for Singapore the same day.

"Honey, you don't look good. Can you postpone this trip." My mom asked as I finished packing my suitcase and ordered a cab to the airport.

"No ma .. this is an important trip. I had been prepping up for this presentation for weeks now and it is a critical project for the company and my career. I will be fine. Don't worry about me. Will be back in three days." I replied pulling my luggage downstairs, trying to ignore the growing uncomfortable feeling inside me.

After reaching the airport, I checked my phone and realized it had been off since the night before.

I searched for Michael as I completed the checking in process. He was supposed to be there by then.

I finished the security check and proceeded slowly to the Singapore Airlines gate, checking messages and missed calls on my phone. They were quite a few from Michael and the company CTO.

I called Michael. "Hey where are you?"

"Samy .. why did you turn off your phone? I was trying to reach you since yesterday night."

"I wasn't feeling good, so decided to get a good night's sleep before our big day. By the way where are you?"

"I am at home Samy."

"What! Are you crazy? Our flight leaves in thirty minutes."

"I was asked to stand by because of some late night changes in the strategy by our CTO and the sales team."

"You got to be kidding me! We prepared for this together and I need you to do the infrastructure presentation. I didn't prepare myself for your part. Who made this decision?" I was confused and angry with the last minute changes.

"You need to talk to the CTO. He has been trying to reach you. They didn't inform me any reason, just told me to standby until further notice, because of some late developments in project requirements."

"Ok, let me call and find out what is going on?" I disconnected and called our CTO.

"Samantha! Thanks for calling. I had been trying to reach you since yesterday night. Where are you now?" Our CTO asked me, before I could say anything.

"Hello Sir, I am at the airport in the boarding lounge. What is going on? Why Michael is not coming?"

"Listen Samantha, our Sales Director in Singapore has some new information from the client, so we had to make some last minute changes and are trying to send someone else in his place."

"Someone else .. who?"

"I am trying to get Sid onboard for this trip."

"Sid .. what? .. wait! .. he doesn't even work for us anymore?" My stomach just did a huge somersault and the uneasy feeling spread to my mouth.

"His last day is this Friday, so technically he still works for us."

"I don't think that is a good idea"

"Samantha, please go along with us on this one. It took me the entire night to convince him to go on this trip. He is on his way now."

"But Sir! He knows nothing about this project. He never dealt with clients directly. We could lose this project."

"Let me put it this way Samantha. We had zero chance of getting this project before. We were competing for experience, but now we have a chance. Just go along with me on this one and I will explain everything in more detail tomorrow. And be nice to Sid, I had a tough time convincing him and literally  had to beg him for one last favor." He disconnected the call leaving me confused, angry and demotivated.

I wasn't prepared for this twist in fate. I should be jumping with joy, but after learning about Sasi and him, I was not prepared to face him, let alone spend the next three days with him.

"Samy .. be professional."  My inner voice commanded.

"Professional .. my foot. I am going to give him such a hard time, he is gonna run back home to his mama in a day. I need to torture him and make him pay for hurting Sasi." I boarded the plane and looked at the empty seat on my side in the  business class, waiting for the villain to arrive.

Everyone boarded the plane except for Sid.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, we are waiting for one more passenger and will leave for Singapore as soon as he boards. We apologize for the minor delay." The air hostess announced.

"More reason to hate him. Guess everyone on the plane hates him now." I thought inside, rubbing my tummy to reduce the tension and stress he was causing me.

Finally, he arrived, with a big smile plastered on his face and dropped into the seat by my side crashing into my shoulder.

"Howdy!" He shouted getting close to my face, almost kissing my cheek.

I couldn't beleive our poor CTO wasted his time trying to convince this guy. I was sure, it was all  part of Sid's master plan. I don't know what game Sid played to drop Michael from the trip, but I promised myself to get to the bottom of his game and expose him.

"Babes! How you doing?" He asked again, bending closer to me.

"Fuck you!" I gave him the finger, looking at him angrily.

(A/N: If you are Sid what would be your response? Please comment)

A/N: Please pardon my language. Trying new things. If anyone feels offended or annoyed, please let me know, I will change the line. As always I want to know how you feel about the story and I love to hear any feedback.
