"No... Tae!"
Jimin gasped, his eyes fluttering open, his breathing ragged as he sat atop his bed. He could feel his heart beating out of his chest, his sweat forming in his forehead, realizing that he just had another nightmare.
And in his nightmare, he saw how Taehyung was set on fire. He saw how he begged for him to be saved.
But he couldn't.
The blonde sobbed, feeling so alone and hurt. It's been two weeks since Taehyung was cremated. During those times, Jimin felt like in hell to lose his best friend.
He forced himself to stand and went down the kitchen to have a drink and calm himself.
Jimin took a glass and filled it with water from the fridge. He had a sip or two, but he felt like his whole body turns into jelly.
He's feeling so out of it as he took his seat, knocking off the glass of water in hand, making a loud crashing sound.
The blonde heard footsteps afterwards, coming to his direction. In less than a minute, he saw Jin's concerned face.
"Hey. What happened here?" Jin asked, seeing the water and broken glass on the floor.
Jimin covered his face. "Sorry. Did I wake you up?" He forced an apologetic smile.
The older shakes his head. "It's fine. I couldn't sleep much."
Jin had been staying with Jimin for the past two weeks. He couldn't get back to Canada, not until his cousin's case has been solved.
Jin went to get a broom and sweep the broken glasses on the floor, all the while instructing Jimin not to place his feet down.
He quickly looked for a rug and wiped off the water, before seating opposite to Jimin who looked so tired and helpless.
"Are you okay? You can tell me what happened." Jin softly said, caressing the younger's back.
Jimin finally broke down. "I-I miss Taehyung." He cried out, feeling bad about himself and everything that has happened to his friend.
He feels like he could've done something to help him. If only he did everything in his power, maybe Taehyung will still be alive.
"I feel bad, hyung. I want to give justice to what happened to him, but up until now, the killer is out there living a life while Taehyung.. my Taehyung.." Jimin bursts into tears.
Jin also started crying, feeling the pain Jimin has been feeling. "I know, Chim. I know." He murmurs, caressing his temple to comfort him.
"Why haven't anyone caught that fucker yet? Are they even doing their job right?!" Jimin bursts in anger, his tears cascading down his pained face.
"Let's go to the police station tomorrow. Okay? Let's check on the updates with Officer Kim." Jin said, wiping Jimin's tears. "For now, it's better for you to have a good rest, okay sweetie?"
Jimin nodded his head. He felt Jin's arm supporting him to stand. He lead him back to his room, tucking him under the sheet.
"Rest well, Chim. And please, don't feel like it's your fault. We'll get that killer and finally give justice to our Tae." Jin assured, placing a tender kiss in his forehead.
The older closed the door and went to his own room, leaving Jimin who tried his best to fight away his nightmares.
--------
Officer Namjoon raised his head upon hearing the door to his office clicking open.
He saw Jimin and Jin enter, their faces hopeful as they looked at him. Namjoon sighed apologetically, letting the two sit on the couch.
The officer stood from his seat and went over their direction, sitting opposite to them.
"Is there any news about Taehyung's case?" Jimin asked as soon as their eyes met.
Namjoon sighed, scratching the back of his head. His team had been doing their best into tracking the culprit of the said case, however, up until now, they still get little information.
"We've been reviewing all the cctv cameras in Mr. Kim's workplace, his house, even the streets where he usually passed by. But then.." Officer Namjoon sighed once more.
"There's still no lead?" Jin asked, a bit disappointed.
Namjoon stood and took something in his desk, a file it seems.
"We haven't tracked down the killer yet, but.. we might have gotten ourselves a bit of a lead." Namjoon said, placing the file in front of the two who looked at it with interest.
"You see, the email used by the killer to send the torture video of Dr. Kim gave us the idea who the killer is." Namjoon showed the email to the two.
"jk@살인자.com?" Jimin asked, his brows knotted in his forehead.
Namjoon nodded.
"You mean to say, the killer gave away his email just like that, and didn't use a fake one?" Jimin couldn't believe it. "I thought he's smart?"
Namjoon nodded his head. "He is. He used this email because he's confident."
The officer leaned on the couch before continuing. "You see, Mr. Park, there are hired assassins all over the world. They get paid to kill, regardless of the reason. They provide an email to their clients for their request like this one."
Jimin shrugged his shoulders. "I don't care about them. Just track that email down." He said in an angry tone.
Namjoon shakes his head. "That's the point, Mr. Park. He gave away the email because we can't track it down."
Jimin furrows his eyebrows at this. "What do you mean can't? You have a lot of trained police officers for that!" He muttered, voice getting a bit higher from frustration.
Jin held him by his shoulders, "Calm down, Chim. The officers are doing their best for this case. It's not good to snap at them just because you're pissed." He reminded in a soft voice.
Jimin heaved a deep sigh before looking at the officer. "I'm sorry." He mumbles.
Officer Namjoon just smiled, understanding his outburst before continuing, "We've been tracking down this email but we ended up in different places. One even pointed out into my house."
Jimin looks aghast. "You mean to say it's impossible to track it down?"
Namjoon nodded his head. "I'm sorry."
Jimin bit his lower lip, not wanting to break into sobs. "T-then how can we give justice to Tae?" He said, voice breaking.
The officer took out another file, placing it on the desk.
"We can't track it down, but we know whom it belongs to. This legendary email has been in a lot of our cases. In this field, one name stands out for doing a solid flawless job. He goes by the codename JK." Namjoon showed them a picture.
"There hasn't been a single information about the guy, no concrete pictures, identity, or anything. However, we came across this one when we're looking at the cctvs that recorded Dr. Kim." Namjoon handed them the picture for a clearer view.
"Is this him?" Jin asked, his eyes not leaving the picture.
Namjoon sighed, unsure. "We couldn't really say. However, when Officer Lee checked on the recordings, he saw the same built of the man thrice in the same location as Dr. Kim."
Jimin glared at the picture, "Is there a picture of his face on sight?"
The officer apologetically shakes his head. "None. That's the clearest picture we got of him. There's not even a single feature that stands out in this to easily identify."
Jimin slumped his shoulders in defeat. "How could we get a hold of him with just this?" He muttered, feeling helpless.
Namjoon felt tired suddenly. "We'll do everything in our power to find him. Just put your trust in my team, Mr. Park."
Jin nodded his head. "He's right, Chim. Right now, we just have to put our trust in them. We'll get that justice for Tae." He uttered, assuring Jimin that everything's going to be alright.
"O-okay. Thank you, officer..and sorry for my outburst." Jimin bowed his head, wanting to apologize sincerely.
The officer kindly smiled at him. "It's okay, Mr. Park. I truly understand where you're coming from." He held his hand with his own before saying goodbye to the two.
Jin walked to his car, waiting for Jimin, but the latter said he'll be meeting a friend, letting Jin go home on his own.
As soon as Jin's car is no longer on sight, Jimin took his phone out and dialed a friend's number.
He believes in the power of the police, however, he couldn't just wait without doing anything.
He promised to himself that if the police couldn't get that killer, he'll do it himself.
Few rings and his friend answered.
"Bambam, it's me." Jimin mumbles, walking away from the police station.
"Hey, what's up?" Bambam answered from the other line.
"You're good at hacking right?" Jimin asked, straight to the point.
His friend, Bambam, is a skilled software creator and good at hacking. He's been friends with him since college and he knows how good he is when it comes to his craft.
"Well, I guess I am." Bambam laughed in embarrassment.
Jimin smiled at this. "Can you help me hack an email?"
Bambam paused for a while, "Uhm, sure I can, but if you want, there's someone who's greater than me in this thing. He's a monster when it comes to hacking." His friend suggested, making Jimin beam.
If his friend is already good at this, but still claims that someone is better than him, Jimin might just have a chance to crack that email.
"Really? Is it okay if you ask him? I'll pay him, any amount." The blonde promised, wanting to get a shot at this.
Bambam chuckled. "Oh, he'll like that. Money is everything to him. Wait up."
Bambam put the call on hold. Jimin waited patiently as he cross the street.
A few minutes later and a voice came in the other line.
"Hello?"
Jimin halted, clearing his throat. "Uh, hello. Is this the friend of Bambam?"
"I'm not his friend but he told me you'll pay me big time. What's it about?" the other man said.
Jimin proceeded in answering though he finds this man rather intimidating. "I'm Park Jimin and I want to ask you if you could hack an email for me?"
The man didn't say anything and Jimin thought he already ended the call. "Hello? You still there?"
"I'll think about it." The man said before returning the call to Bambam.
"Sorry about that, Chim. He's a bit antisocial." Bambam apologized.
Jimin just chuckled, "It's fine as long as he could help me out. Who's that guy by the way?"
Bambam answered, "Oh, that's Min Yoongi, my workmate."
Jimin nodded his head as if he's in front of him. "Okay. Thank you, Bambam."
"No problem, anytime."
The blonde ended the call with a victorious smile. He just hopes this Min Yoongi could help him out.
