Chapter Twelve.

Questions that Aliya has about her parents.

Alina couldn't bear the thought of Aliya winning at everything she did in school and at home. She needed to win against Aliya, no matter where or how she did it.

"You need to win this award. I mean it, Alina", her mother tells her after knowing that there's a project that would make up half of the student's grades, and Rukiya wants her daughter to win no matter what.

"Okay, mamma. I will try..."

"No, don't say trying. You need to do it," Rukiya tells her. She then walks away, knowing that her daughter would do it just to get attention and love.

I need her to crush Aliya just like I did her mother. I don't care who gets hurt or who is against my methods and decisions.

Nanny Lea watched how Rukiya was treating Alina; it was like she didn't even love her as a mother.

But Nanny Lea knew that she couldn't interfere in their matter.

She watched Alina walk to her room with her head down and her shoulders shaking. It looks like she was crying.

If winning that project would make her happy, then my Aliya would leave it and make her win. But that won't be enough for Rukiya, as she wants more and more, which she will need in the future.

Meanwhile, Aliya is in her room, trying to come up with a project that would be suitable, but all she has is nothing.

"Aliya, come and let's have lunch," Nanny Lea says to her, almost scaring her. "I am sorry; I didn't mean to scare you," she added, apologizing to her.

Aliya shook her head and got up to go and have lunch with her Nanny Lea, as she would normally do.

"Nanny, why doesn't my father love me just like he loves Alina?" Aliya asks Nanny Lea.

Nanny Lea didn't know what to tell her because if Aliya only knew what happened between her mother, father, and Rukiya, she wouldn't be able to handle it, even if it was her right to know.

"He does love you, in his own way. And after all, he is your father, so he will love you," Nanny Lea tried to explain to her.

But deep inside, Nanny Lea knew that she was just reassuring Aliya about Zayd, who might never see her as his daughter because of the poison that Rukiya had instilled in his mind and heart.

Ever since Aliya started reading her mother's diaries, she had so many questions that only one person could answer them.

Her uncle.

Zayn's father.

Even though Aliya will need to go to his house with Ahad to get to talk to her uncle Aryan. But she didn't want to tell her Nanny Lea where she needed to go after having lunch.

"Nanny, I need to go with Red to Uncle Aryan's place to do the project with Ahad, so can I go, please?" Aliya asks her while helping her with the dishes.

"Okay, you can go, but remember to come home early..."

"Come home early; don't do anything stupid with my friends. And I know that you will tell me to ask Uncle Aryan to call you," Aliya interrupted her while holding her laughter.

Aliya has memorized what Nanny always tells her whenever she goes to Aryan's house.

"Aliya," Nanny Lea says, giving her a warning look.

"Sorry, my dear Nanny. I promise to be on my best behavior at the house," Aliya says, kissing her Nanny's cheeks.

After finishing helping Nanny Lea, Aliya went to her room to collect her stuff before sending a message to Muskan to let her know it was time to go to Ahad's house.

Aliya knew that Muskan would be waiting for her outside the house as soon as she walked out.

She was glad to have a friend like Red who would do anything for her. As soon as Aliya walked out, she found Muskan waiting for her in the car.

"I thought that you would wait for at least five to ten minutes..."

"Nope, you said it was important, and you know what that means, right?" Red asks her friend.

Red started the car and drove to their destination. As soon as they reached Zayn's home, Red parked the car to talk to Aliya.

"Yes, I did, but I didn't know you would be here this fast," Aliya tells her while getting into the car. "Before you ask, yes, we will be doing the project, but I also needed to ask my uncle a few details about my mother and so-called father," she explained to her.

"I know, and I am here for you always, and so is Matthew..."

"Red, no. I am not interested in love or any guy after what happened with Hamza and Alina. I don't want to think about it. He knew that I had feelings for him, yet he chose to believe her after what he 'saw' in the fake pictures," Aliya tells her friend, tears forming in her eyes. "Look what love did to my mother," she added, handing Red a diary with a chapter about her father's infidelity that caused her mother's almost complete depression.

Red took the diary and started reading it, tears forming in her eyes. Now, she understood why Aliya's heart was too guarded because she didn't want to have a broken heart just like her mother Farha.

"Hey, don't cry. I didn't tell you this to make you sad. And I don't think Nanny knew what was in the diaries when she gave them to me. All I need now are answers, and the only one who can give me one is..."

"Uncle Aryan. But I don't think that he will have answers because this story is between your mother, father, and Rukiya. How will he know about that?" Muskaan asks her.

Aliya knew that Red had a point, but she needed answers, even if they were from his point of view.

"Can we go inside before Zayn sees us in the car?" Muskaan says, giggling.

They both got out of the car and walked hand-in-hand to the front door. Before they could knock, Ahad opened the door and folded his arms, trying to glare at them.

"I have been waiting for the last 30 minutes, and you two are in the car doing..."

"Zayn, don't you dare finish that sentence, or else I will tell Uncle..."

"Fine, just come in," Zayn tells them.

Both Aliya and Muskaan looked at each other and started laughing before walking inside the house.

They knew that Zayn was scared of his father, but he didn't do stupid things like try to bully the girls.

Zayn knew how important Aliya was to him, and he didn't mind it because of the story that his father told him about how Farha welcomed him into her life.

"Yes, he is in the office; you know the way," he tells her. "Come on, Red, let's go and see what type of project we can come up with," he added, leading Muskaan to the living room.

"Could you stop calling me Red? It was one time..."

"Nope, you will always be Red to us," Zayn and Aliya tell her, laughing. Aliya started walking toward the office.

Zayn watched as Aliya walked to the office. He didn't want to ask her anything because he immediately knew from their faces that it was very serious. After all, there were traces of tears on each of their faces.

"You know she is stronger than she looks. At least she has you, Nanny Lea, and Uncle Aryan as her family..."

"Don't forget yourself, Red".

Meanwhile, at the office, Aliya knocked on the door, hoping that her Uncle Aryan wasn't too busy to answer her questions.

"Come in".

Aliya walked inside nervously, not knowing if he would have the answers to her questions.

"You know that you don't need to knock, right?" her uncle tells her, looking up from his files that were on his desk.

"I know, but Nanny Lea would have my head if I didn't knock and just walked in," Aliya says, smiling, remembering the time that Nanny Lea scolded her for not knocking on the door while she discussed with Aryan.

"Shouldn't you be with Red and my son?" Uncle Aryan asks her.

"I will be after you answer my questions about my mother, and please don't use a story to tell me that she was the best sister and daughter. I want the truth about him and my so-called father," Aliya says, putting in the diary that had the information on her father's infidelity. "Nanny gave me the diaries without knowing what was written inside, and I want to keep it that way," she added, sitting down.

Aryan knew that this day would come, but he didn't know that it would come this soon.

Aliya needed to know about her mother's story from him, but he didn't want to tarnish the reputation of her father, even though he didn't even care for or love her.

"I will tell you everything, but keep in mind that he will always be your father..."

"A father that abandoned me at the hospital after I was born while demanding a DNA test to prove that I am his daughter," Aliya interrupted him, feeling angry, remembering when she heard Rukiya talking to her mother-in-law when she was visiting Alina.

"I know that. But remember that your mother loved you even before you were born. And I will tell you everything that happened between the three of them," Aryan started telling Aliya about what happened to her mother, father, and Rukiya.

Aliya was beyond shocked to hear all the things that they had done to her mother. But why would her father let Rukiya hurt Farha even though he would have prevented it by letting Farha leave?

"You need to control the anger, Aliya. Your mother didn't want you to know anything about this..."

"Why did they do this to her? Wasn't she good enough for him to cheat on her and marry someone like Rukiya, who always bullies her own daughter? I don't want to stay there anymore..."

"But what about Nanny? You know she doesn't want to leave there because..."

"I know that, but what should I do now?" she asks him, wiping her tears.

"All I can say is patience until you go to college or the university of your choice, and then I will take care of Nanny. She will come here and live with me," Aryan suggested to her.

"Okay, I will try to do that, and please don't tell this to Nanny or anyone else", Aliya tells him.

"Okay, I won't. But now go before they come and drag you to them, and I don't want chaos, especially when I need to complete this file before Monday," Aryan says to her.

"Thank you for telling me the truth, and I am thankful to you and Nanny Lea for loving and caring for me," Aliya says to her uncle. "And I finally know which project we should go with," she added, smiling as if she had won the lottery.

Aliya finally understood why her mother kept diaries to record everything that happened to her when she lived in the house.

Thank you, Nanny, and thank you, Mamma, for trying to protect me.
