chapter nine

Safeeya's POV

The food in the house was slowly finishing, and my stay here in Abuja is now getting to two months.

Humaid's behavior has changed drastically, he only comes back home to get his clothes which he always stuffed in a mini suitcase, and leaves without uttering a word.

Today is making a week of Humaid not showing up at home at all. I was beginning to get worried because his phone was unreachable.

"Ding Dong" the loud sound of the doorbell came in so loudly.

"Who might that be ?" I thought, getting up from the couch where I lay.

I walked towards the door and opened it only to find Humaid and two other men who were dressed so Professionally.

"What took you so long ?" Wow, this is a good way to speak to your wife whom you haven't seen or called for so long.

" I.." I tried speaking but he hissed.

"Please Mr. Sam come in, we'll have the meeting over here," he said to Mr. Sam and the other man who looked at me irritatingly and walked in.

They all went over to the main seating room and sat on the couch, placing their laptops on the center table.

"This is how the product will look like ?" They began their discussion while I walked over to the dining room and sat over there, watching them while I continued using my phone.

" Excuse me" I heard a husky Male voice " come here " was he talking to me? I was uncertain.

"Are you deaf safeeya?, he is calling you "Humaid said so rudely and I got up and walked over to where they sat.

" Yes ?" My eyes were burning from the tears that threatened to fall.

"Can you get me a cup of cappuccino coffee? " He said with Authority lynched in his voice, I felt confused because I have never heard such a word before.

"Capasino?" I found myself trying to pronounce the word.

" It's not capasino, it is cappuccino," Mr. Sam said whilst chuckling and I felt embarrassed.

"Humaid where did you get such a local maid from? " the other man asked.

" I am not ...." I tried speaking but Humaid cut me short, I guess he loved doing that a lot.

"It was my mother That got me such an illiterate maid" my heart felt heavy when I heard those words come from humaids mouth.  Me? Maid?.

"Go and get him cappuccino coffee. Common English you can't understand or speak" he said, my legs felt heavy as my vision became blurry from the tears that clouded my eyes.

"Aren't you hearing him?, or don't you understand English" the rude man said. " Humaid what tribe does she understand?" He asked Humaid.

" Hausa" Humaid replied with no iota of guilt.

" Oh, toh kije ki kawo mai coffee na cappuccino (Go get him cappuccino coffee.) Mr. Sam spoke in my local dialect.

I looked over at Humaid and he gave me a look that said "GO NOW",  so I walked away from them and went into the kitchen where I let all tears flow freely.

" Why is the coffee taking so long?" Humaid yelled but I didn't respond, I kept on crying as what transpired in the leaving room played before my eyes.

" Where is the coffee safeeya?" Humaid said walking into the kitchen.

" Don't you dare come close to me " I said and he stopped at his pace.

" You called me your Maid Humaid, do I look like your maid?. or have you forgotten that I am your wife?." I asked, tears cascading down my eyes cheeks to my neck.

"I am sorry, but the people out there are FGC and they are in charge of Approving my company's newest product which I need to boast our international market. And if they get to know that I am married to a local wife, the news will go viral. I have made a name in the production Industry in just one month of my stay in Abuja and I can't let that go down the drain just because of you and your silly English. I have a reputation to uphold" he says. I looked at him in confusion, Was he Ashamed of me being his wife?

"So you are ashamed of me?" I asked, looking directly into his eyes.

"It's not that, I just don't want you facing humiliation Because of me," he said.

"Oh wow, what I faced in the living room, isn't that humiliating enough?" I asked.

" Baby, if you face humiliation. I'll also face it and I don't want that because it'll reduce my company's income and name in the global market" he tried touching my hand but I refused.

" Don't you dare touch me, and I am not making any capasino for those fat pigs " I said, I felt a little bit lighter as I rained insults on those Disrespectful people.

"Why do you always have to disgrace yourself? If you don't know how to pronounce something, just keep shut " he said.

" you are not the Humaid I know," I said,

" I am, baby trust me. I am doing this for us " he said.

" Get out of here" I yelled and he complied and walked out while I sat back on the ground and continued sobbing. Why is he treating me in this manner?, Or has he forgotten the fact that I am his wife?
