Chapter Nine.
Fake Fiancee.
Ayat wasn't sure what to do if the woman was back again. Naeem hasn't told her what to expect from her coming back to the office.
She had wished that Kate was there instead of her. Ayat didn't want to know about her boss's private life.
"Good Morning, what's my agenda today?", Naeem asks as he sat down on his chair. Ayat tells him what he has to do for the day.
"Sir, there is an invite for you. From Mr. and Mrs. Nabeel Hashim. It seems they are inviting you to a dinner party at their house on Saturday Night", Ayat tells him handing him the envelope.
Naeem looked at the envelope before opening it. He didn't have any investor or friend called Nabeel. He thanked her and ask her to go back to work.
Naeem read the card noticing that it could be sent by the person who was sending him pictures.
He called Ayat back into his office.
"Here take this card and get a dress and its accessories for the dinner party this Saturday. Before you ask anything, yes you are invited. You may have the rest of the day off", Naeem explained to her without letting her speak.
"But sir, I thought it was only for show and it was just once. Me, pretending to be your fiancée", Ayat tells him.
"Yes, but this dinner party requires the both of us there. So go and get whatever you want", he tells her handing her his credit card.
Ayat looked at him and the card wanted to shake her head saying no but the look that Naeem gave her. She had no choice but to accept the card.
"I...I don't.." Ayat wanted to tell him that she doesn't know any boutiques.
"Hello, dear brother", Layla interrupts them. "Did I interrupt something?", she added looking between Ayat and her brother.
"Nothing..."
Naeem tells her while trying to glare at her but he knew that his glare wouldn't do anything for him.
"Come on tell me. I don't want him to see me here or I am telling about her", Layla tells him pointing at Ayat.
"Fine, Bratt. You can help her with getting a dress for the dinner party this Saturday. And no, you can't tell mum or even dad about it. Or I will tell Jason where you are", he tells her showing his phone with Jason's number.
"Fine, I will do it but give her the entire afternoon free. Ayat, gather your things, and let's go", Layla tells her holding her hand and leading her to the door waving at Naeem.
"So what type of dress do you like?", Layla asks her while Ayat gathers her things.
"No, I like simple clothes and not tight ones. And I don't like makeup", Ayat tells her smiling.
"It's okay. I know where we will go. Come on before he comes", they walked into the elevator and Layla pressed the lobby button.
"Who do you mean?", Ayat asks.
"My clingy husband. Since he found out that we are expecting he hasn't left my side. I love him, I do but he is somehow too much and I need space. You will get it when you marry my brother", Layla explained to her.
"Layla, no. It's not going to happen. He is just my boss, if I make it, if not then I will have to look for another job". Ayat explains.
"Well, if it was up to me, you would marry him..."
"Layla, no let's just got the dress and get the dinner over with. He told a woman who visited him a few days ago that I am his fiancée. I think she is the one who sent the invites just to see if he will take me with him", Ayat explained as they got off the elevator and walked towards Layla'scar.
"Ayat, God works in mysterious ways. So if he ever treats you badly just let me know, alright?", Layla tells her opening the door to her car.
"Yeah maybe. So where are we going? And I don't want to use the card that he gave me", Ayat explains to her.
"Well, he would be pissed if you didn't use it. Besides I do want to use it, so we are using it", Layla tells her.
Ayat just smiled at her knowing that Layla wouldn't take no for an answer.
"Here we are, let me park the car and then we can go to the shop", Layla tells Ayat pointing at the shop in front of them.
"Layla thank you for doing this. I appreciate it".
"You are most welcome. Now let's go", she tells her switching off her car and walking out. Layla waited for Ayat outside the car.
"Okay, let's go".
They walked into the boutique where there were a lot of beautiful gowns.
"Assalam aleikum, Layla. Long time since you have visited me", a woman came to greet Layla.
"Waleikum salaam, Asya. Yeah sorry for being busy with someone who is too clingy", Layla tells her.
"Jason. How is he? Still the same", Asya asks her looking at Ayat hiding behind Layla.
"Still the same. This is Ayat, she needs a dinner party dress with a matching hijab and accessories. Ayat meets one of my friends Asya," Layla introduced them.
"I think I know which dress will suit her. Come with me Ayat", she motioned Ayat to follow her. Ayat looked at Layla who nodded.
"Asya makes sure it's perfect", Layla shouts at her as they walked to the dressing room.
Inside the room, there were so many beautiful gowns that were displayed on the mannequins.
"They are all beautiful. Did you design them yourself?", Ayat asks Asya.
"Yeah, I did. Didn't Layla tell you?".
"No, she hasn't. Don't listen to her. I want a simple and not extravagant gown please". Ayat explains to her.
"I have the perfect dress. And yes, It has a matching hijab. Wait here let me go and get it", Asya tells her walking out of the room and leaving Ayat alone.
After a few minutes, she came back with a gorgeous dress that Ayat smiled at when she saw it.
"This one. What do you think? Try it", Asya kept the dress beside Ayat. "I will be outside if you need me just call", she added before leaving.
Ayat looked at the dress, it was exactly what she wanted. She had to try it on to know if it fits her or not.
She put on the dress and the matching hijab and then walked out of the room to where Layla and Asya were.
"So what do you think?", she asks them.
Layla grinned at her.
"This is gorgeous, Asya", Layla tells her friend while secretly taking a pic of Ayat.
I know exactly who to send this to.
She sent it to her brother Naeem hoping that he would have some reaction to Ayat.
"This is it, then. Why don't you go change then I will wrap it for you with the shoes too?", Asya tells her.
As soon as Asya left them, Ayat turned to Layla.
"Isn't this expensive? Besides we aren't even a real couple..."
"He gave his card, this is the reason for that", Layla explained.
"But I don't want him to think that I am a golddigger...."
"Stop, Ayat. You are taking the dress and could you do it for me, please?", Layla started tearing up using her pregnancy hormones against Ayat.
"Fine, please don't cry. I will take the dress and the shoes too. Smile", Ayat tells her walking back to the dressing room to get changed.
And that's how it is done. I should have been an actress. Naeem, you owe me.
Asya came back with the dress and the shoes all wrapped in a bag.
"I never ask you, but who is Ayat?", Asya asks Layla.
"Soon to be sister-in-law. In shaa Allah. But for now, I have to make my heartless brother feel something in his stone heart", Layla explained to her friend.
"Okay, I wish you luck. Neem deserves to be happy and to have someone who will love and care for him. As soon as I saw Ayat I knew that she might be the one for him", Asya tells her.
They have known each other since university. But Asya studied fashion while Layla studied English.
Asya is married to her long-time boyfriend for three years now.
"Yes that's true", Layla tells her. When she wanted to say more but didn't because she saw Ayat coming toward them.
"We should have dinner sometime. Tell Asad I said hey", she added.
"Are you ready to go?", Ayat asks her.
"Yeah sure. Let's go".
Ayat turned to Asya and said; "Thank you for everything. I hope we can be friends".
"Yes, we can. See you later".
They walked out of the boutiques waving at Asya.
"Thank you...."
Before she could finish what she was saying Layla's phone started ringing.
"Crap, Naeem told him", Layla showed her her phone.
Jason.
"Answer it then".
"Yeah I better do that before he panics and calls my grandparents," she said.
"Layla, where are you? And no Naeem didn't tell me", he asks her.
"I am with a friend. Don't worry we are just going to have lunch and then I will be home...."
"Tell me which hotel you are at and I will be there", he interrupts.
Layla looked at Ayat who nodded.
"Fine, I will text you the address and could you do me a favor and get that grumpy beside you out to eat", Layla tells him.
"There's no one here except me...."
Habiby, I know you are with him. You two are like glue and annoying so just do it. I have to now. I love you", she hung up before Jason could reply.
Layla text him the café address as soon as they stepped out of the car. He replied saying they will be there.
"Hello, welcome to Rose Café what can I get you?", a waiter asks them as soon as they sat down.
"I would like tangerine juice with loads of ice and the halaal special, thank you", Layla orders for herself.
The waiter then turns to Ayat.
"A glass of mixed cocktail juice and fries, thank you...."
"Get her the same as me, please. Cancel the fries", Layla interrupts her.
"Okay, I will be back with your food", he walked away leaving them alone.
"Lay, I am not that hungry...."
Asalam aleikum, so here you are hiding", Jason asks as he took a seat near his wife making Naeem take a seat near Ayat.
"Waleikum salaam', replies Ayat.
"I am not hiding. We came for lunch", Layla replied smiling at her husband. Then she turned to Ayat to introduce Jason to her.
"Nice to meet you".
"Here you go", they were interrupted by their waiter who brought the food they ordered.
"Anything else?", he asks looking at Ayat.
"Could you stop staring?....."
Jason intervened before the poor guy gets killed by his friend.
"Could you bring two more of the specials and one orange juice and apple juice?", he asks the waiter who left them alone.
Jason was about to take a fry from Layla's food when he got smacked on his hand.
"Share with me your food and I will share with you mine...."
"No, I am not sharing with you".
As they continued to argue, Ayat moved her plate to Naeem.
"See, she is sharing, why don't you share?", Jason asks his wife who stuffing her face with her food.
"Fine, take only one".
"We can share until your food is ready, here", Ayat took some fries and put them near Naeem's mouth.
"It's okay, you eat...."
"No, it's impolite to do that. So please eat".
Naeem opened his mouth so that Ayat could feed. He did this because he saw the waiter coming their way with food.
"Thank you, Habibty", he smirked knowing that the waiter heard and saw everything he did.
This is to show you that you should stay away from her.
"Anything else?", the waiter asks.
"No, thank you", Layla replied seeing her brother who was more focused on Ayat who was feeding him.
What they didn't know was that Layla secretly took a photo of them locking eyes.
"Perfect", she says making them turn to her.
"That's scary", Jason commented.
Naeem put some of his food onto Ayat's plate.
"Am full, now you eat. And thank you".
"You are welcome", she smiled at him.
He watched her as she started eating and talking to his sister.
What are you doing to me? The walls I have built are crumbling down and it's all because of you. When I saw that waiter look at you I felt rage coming out of me.
I shouldn't feel that...
I shouldn't let you in...
I didn't let you in but somehow you found a way into my life and now maybe just maybe into my heart.
Jason watched as his best friend's wall came down and it was thanks to her.
Ayat.
I guess my mother was right about her. She is the light that he needed in his dark life.
Thank you, Ayat for bringing my best friend back and for making his heartbeat again.
Unknown Pov.
"Your happiness will be short-lived very soon. And very soon I will reveal who I am. I will get my revenge on you even if it is the last thing I do".
I take my phone to call someone.
"Is everything ready?", I ask them.
"Yes".
"Perfect".
