Chapter Eight

An enemy can be someone close to you. It can either be someone whom you trust with all your heart. It might a family member or even a best friend.

Naeem was becoming restless after receiving another envelope this time there were pictures of him, his parents, and his sister.

"This person has gone too far. It is time to make them stop this", he tells his father after showing him what he had received.

"You said they aren't signed but there must be fingerprints. We could ask your grandparents for help with this. Your grandfather is still friends with some people at the police station", suggested Liam.

Naeem knew that his father was right but at the same, he didn't want to worry his grandparents as his grandmother was getting weaker because of her sickness.

"I know that look you have on your face. And I am worried about her too but we can't delay what Allah has planned for each one of us. He knows what will happen to us and besides your grandfather would be happy to help you, to get his mind off your grandmother's situation", Liam advised his son.

"Okay, I will go there after lunch and spend time with them too".

"I heard about Ayat...."

"Dad, stop. She is just an employee, an intern, and nothing more".

Liam laughed at his son shaking his head.

"I was just going to ask if you would consider her as a permanent employee because in a month Kate will no longer work here. She wants to retire so to take care of Layla".

"Yes she will be a permanent employee. And no, I am not going to ask her out".

"Why? She is beautiful and hardworking. Is there someone else?", Liam asks his son.

Liam knew that someone might hurt him that's why he doesn't like to date or even get married.

"Dad, I fall in love a few years back and she broke me by marrying someone else. She didn't even tell me that she was engaged when we started dating. She broke me, dad. And now I find it hard to fall in love with someone", he explained to his father.

"Well, my son maybe she isn't your soulmate. If she was, she would be here with you. Consider her to be a stepping stone one closer to your soulmate.", Liam explained to him adding, "whoever that girl is, you are better off without her. And if you ever date Ayat you have my blessings".

"Dad, first I need to know who keeps sending me these envelopes. And now isn't the time for me to think about dating. I better be going", Naeem tells his father.

It was Saturday he knew that his grandparents were at home. He drove to their house and parked the car.

He then knocked on the door. His grandfather opened the door letting him inside.

"Asalam aleikum, Papa. How are you doing?", Naeem asks his grandfather as he greeted him.

"Waleikum salaam, son. Alhamdullilah am okay but am worried about your grandma. She says she is fine but I know she is in pain..."

"Papa, be strong. Allah knows best. I have a problem but...."

"Let's go to my study and you will tell me all about it", he leads him to his study.

Naeem explained to him about receiving the pictures and the note.

"Here are some pictures and the notes that came with it", he handed his grandfather the envelopes.

"This person is clear but not so much. You see there's a mark where they folded the envelope. They left their fingerprint there", He explained to Naeem who was amazed by how his grandfather could tell just from looking at the envelopes.

"That's great, Papa. We will know who sent that in no time", Naeem says. To his grandfather.

"Yes, but we have to be careful who to trust in life. Because anyone can be your enemy".

He then took his phone and make the call that needed to be made.

"Okay, thanks. I will let him know. Bye, and thanks again".

When his grandfather disconnected the call, Naeem knew that there might be bad news to come with the good news.

"The person I call will come over and take the envelope for analysis. But we have to wait for a few days for the results to be out", he tells Naeem.

Naeem has no choice but to agree to that. His grandfather always taught him that being patient isn't for everyone. Only the chosen ones are lucky to have that virtue with them.

"Okay, Papa. I hope this gets resolved as soon as possible. I don't want the press getting this information".

Being patient isn't for everyone. Only the chosen ones are lucky to have that virtue with them.
