Chapter One.
Hanan Muhsin's Past.
Being married to the love of your life is something everyone wants but they don't know that not every marriage is happy.
Hanan Muhsin has always gotten what she wanted from her parents, grandparents, and everyone around her.
Hanan has always been her parents' princess. Her father's apple of the eye and her mother's little doll.
What she wants she gets.
But what if what she wants isn't good especially when that person wants something else from her?
Riaz Jameel was someone who wanted to get married just to show off to his friends that he married a girl who is rich and could provide him with everything.
When he saw Hanan, he immediately knew that she is the one to get him and his family out of the situation they are in.
Wooing her wasn't hard for him as Hanan was someone who believed in love and fairytales.
She thought that Riaz was the one for her when they first met but what she didn't know was that he planned it.
He knew how to approach her and make her fall for him without even trying too hard.
Each time he spent time with her was the time he knew that he was winning her heart.
A few months passed when Riaz thought it was time for him to propose marriage to her knowing that she will agree as she has fallen deeply in love with him.
I just need to find a cheapskate ring for her as she won't even look at it. Love makes you do stupid things that you don't even need to see.
Riaz planned everything including asking his parents to see Hanan's parents for their daughter's hand in marriage.
"Are you sure about this, son?", his father asks him before they left to go and see Hanan and her family. "She is a nice girl but....."
"Stop it Jameel. This is for us too and not just for our son", his mother reprimanded his father who kept silent and didn't say anything else.
The day has arrived for Riaz and his parents to meet Hanan's parents. But deep in their hearts, they know that Riaz isn't a good person but the happiness of their daughter is very important.
"What are we going to do for our daughter?" Hanan's mother asked her husband.
"This is for her happiness and only that. And we want her to be happy...."
"I know that but I don't know why I feel that he isn't right for our precious daughter. Maybe I am just being cautious when it comes to our Hanan", she tells her husband who gave her a hug making her feel safe.
This is for our daughter's happiness and that is what is important to us.
Hanan's parents welcome Riaz and his parents inside their home with a heavy heart but for their daughter, they are willing to do anything and everything for her.
Riaz and his parents were awed by the house and what is in it.
This is how we will live once I marry Hanan. I will be able to get what I want and what I could give my parents.
These were Riaz's thoughts as he watched the conversation that their parents were having. He watched as Hanan came into the living room carrying a tray filled with a different assortment of delicious sweets and pastries.
"Hanan my dear. How are you?", Riaz's mother greets her smiling at her.
"I am fine alhamdullilah", she answers smiling at her.
"Come and seat", her mother says to her.
Hanan sat down beside her mother and father while Riaz was looking at her smirking inwardly knowing that this is exactly what he want and he will get it from Hanan and her family.
Riaz had the ring ready to put on Hanan's finger at that very moment.
"So, it's a a yes from our side, what about yours?", Riaz's father tells Hanan and her parents who looked at each other and then at their daughter who smiled at them.
"Yes, the answer is a yes too", Hanan's father tells them making them smile.
Riaz pulled a ring out of his pocket and held it in his hands waiting for the right time to give it to her.
"Can we get them engaged now?", Riaz's mother asks them.
Hanan's parents wanted them to wait before getting their kids' engaged but Riaz wanted something else.
"Sure, we can do that", Hanan's mother tells them making Riaz and Hanan smile with happiness.
Then Riaz got up and walked towards Hanan and took her hand and put the ring on her finger making her smile.
After their engagement, Riaz and his parents wanted the wedding to happen in a week but due to Hanan's parents pursuing them to make it a month as there would be a lot of preparations and families that needed to be invited.
"Actually, aunt, uncle. Can we just have a court marriage and then a small reception?" Riaz asks them.
This made Hanan shocked and didn't know what to say. She was so in love with him that anything he says she accepts.
"Are you sure about that?", Laila asks him and then turned to her husband who just shrugged.
"Yes I am. But I don't know about Hanan though....." He then turns to look at her expecting her to say no but instead, she nods.
"Yes, that's my answer", she says surprising both of her parents with her answer.
They all agreed that both Riaz and Hanan will have a court wedding and a small reception that will be held at home.
A few days passed when the family got to know about the proposal, they were very happy for her but her cousin Azaan wasn't so keen on her fiancée.
Azaan has never liked Riaz ever since Hanan introduced her to him.
"Hanan, are you sure about him?" her cousin asks her.
"Yes, I am sure", she says to Azaan smiling at him. But Azaan couldn't help but worry about her.
But Hanan loved him more than anything but what she didn't know was that he wasn't the guy that she would want in her life.
Azaan knew what love could do to someone who didn't even know when someone is lying to them.
After a few days, it was time for the wedding day. Hanan always wanted to have a wedding just like her cousins did but she couldn't go against Riaz.
The most important thing is that I am marrying the love of my life. Wedding or no wedding, what's important is me and him.
She tries to reassure herself even though her dream was to have a wedding where she could invite everyone who cared and loved her.
"Are you sure about this? If you want I could talk to Riaz and tell him about...."
"I am fine with this, Saira. You don't need to tell him anything. We both agreed that this is the better way", she tells Saira who just shakes her head. "I know what you are thinking but not everyone is lucky to have their dream wedding", she added shocking Saira.
"Excuse me", Saira says walking away from her with tears in her eyes for what Hanan said to her.
Hanan knew that the marriage between Saira and her cousin Azaan wasn't a dream wedding, especially for her.
"Why, Hanan? When all she did was try to help you. Don't...just stay away from her, please", Azaan tells her walking to comfort his wife.
It is time for Hanan to go to the courthouse to get married. She arrived with her parents as her witnesses at the same time Riaz did.
Riaz had a smug on his face thinking that he had won a jackpot when it came to getting Hanan as his wife, more like his bank account.
They both signed the marriage certificate alongside their parents. But deep inside Laila and Khalid knew that this wasn't something their daughter wanted to have as her dream wedding.
"All will be well, habibty", Khalid tells his wife while they were looking at Riaz's parents who had smiles on their faces.
Hanan felt really happy that she had finally married the love of her life but at what cost?
She had no idea what life she would have to face in her future, if she did, then she would have thought about marrying Riaz twice before doing it.
Sometimes parents should let their kids make their own mistakes so that they can learn from them instead of always bailing them out of trouble.
