Chapter 9
Dimitri
I thought she had moved on. I thought we were moving on from those times where she would think of him and cry all day. I thought we were making our way towards a happy future together. But how clearly wrong I was. She was still stuck in the past. She was still living in those memories she had of him. She still thought about him intimately.
I loved her. I really did. She was my everything. But at the moment, I was tired of her behaviour. She was sending me mixed signals, and I couldn't decipher if she wanted me or not. Not that she had much choice. But still.
Her actions were making me lose my mind. One moment she's kissing me and the next, she's moaning that dead bastard's name. I may have given him a proper burial but I was not okay with my wife thinking about him.
All this shit was making me focus less on the business and that was not good. I had enemies. A lot of them. And if I didn't pay more attention to the gang, it would be easy for them to harm me.
Kate didn't know about the dangers I faced all the time. She didn't need to know because she had me to protect her. But it was high time she fixed her attitude and gave me some credit for my patience and efforts.
I was done being the nice guy for her. If she wanted me to be good to her, she had to make some effort herself. Because this time, I was not going to go easy on her.
Kate
I realised my mistake and I truly regretted it. I was slowly moving on from Elijah and I had stopped thinking about him like that. But I don't know what happened to me today.
And Dimitri was extremely angry. He had stormed out of the room a couple of hours ago and I had not seen him yet. It was already midnight and I was waiting for him to come back to our room so I could talk to him about today's events.
Two more hours and I was extremely sleepy. Dimitri wasn't back yet. I hoped he would come back soon.
NEXT MORNING
I opened my eyes and looked around for any signs of Dimitri but he was nowhere to be seen. The bed was still made from his side, clearly indicating he had not come back last night.
I felt bad about this whole situation but I didn't know how to make it up to him. Obviously he was ignoring me. I had really hurt him.
Although I wasn't completely ready to accept it but it was crystal clear that he loved me. He tried his best to make sure I was happy. And how did I repay him? By moaning my ex-husband's name while he kissed me.
I got out of the bed and took a shower before dressing up nicely for my husband. I went downstairs and looked around for him but I couldn't find him anywhere. I saw a maid making her way out of the kitchen.
She stopped in front of me and slightly bowed her head. "Good morning, Mrs. Kuznetsov."
"Good morning," I replied politely. "Have you seen Dimitri this morning?"
"Boss left at sunrise, Ma'am."
"Left?" I asked. "Where did he go?"
The maid looked a bit surprised, maybe about the fact that I didn't even know where my husband was.
"I don't know much Ma'am but I heard he left for Singapore. He had to deal with some stuff there."
"Singapore. Hmm, okay." I gave her a tight lipped smile. What else could I do? He left without informing me.
I know what I did was wrong. I know we were not on really good terms at the moment. But that did not mean he could leave just like that. The least he could do was hear me out once. Or at least say good bye. But maybe, he didn't care anymore.
TWO DAYS LATER
I tried calling Dimitri a few times but he just won't pick up. I couldn't help but feel miserable.
While sitting in the bed waiting for Dimitri to contact me, I remembered that time when he took me out because I wanted to eat some fast food.
Dimitri was in the bathroom, taking a shower after a long day at work. I was sitting on the bed, reading a book. And well, I was actually waiting for Dimitri to come out because I was hungry.
A few minutes passed and the bathroom door opened, revealing Dimitri in just a towel around his waist. I averted my eyes and focused on the book in my hands. I saw him walking towards me from my peripheral vision.
I was trying hard to focus on the words when suddenly the book was snatched from my hands and thrown away. I looked up to find Dimitri standing there, a smirk present on his face.
"Are you ignoring me, love?" He asked in a sweet voice.
"N-no," I whispered, looking down at my hands. He gently lifted my face up, making me stare into his dark orbs. I blushed when I saw the slight hint of desire there.
"Am I making you nervous, darling?" He asked, smirking.
"N-no, not at all," I stammered. "Why don't you go put on some clothes?"
"I would actually prefer taking yours off as well."
"Dimitri, please."
The next thing I know, Dimitri was bending down, capturing my lips with his in a sweet kiss. He kissed me softly before pulling away for a moment. Before I could even catch my breath, Dimitri pulled me towards him and started kissing me pationately. All I could feel in that moment was his affection.
I pulled away when I started feeling out of breath. Dimitri looked at me with hooded eyes, turning me into a blushing mess. He bent down and kissed my head before walking towards the closet.
I was still staring into space, thinking about what just happened when he came out in his pyjamas and sat on his side of the bed with his laptop in his hands. I also picked up the book and tried reading it.
Barely half an hour had passed when I put the book away and looked at Dimitri. He was busy on his laptop, working on God knows what. He looked handsome.
"You know, instead of just sitting there and staring, you could come closer and make out with me." His voice broke me out of my thoughts.
"How long are you going to work?" I asked, ignoring his previous statement.
"Why? Are you actually planning to make out with me?" He smirked a little.
"Dimitri, stop it. It's just that... I am hungry."
"What can I do? Go to the kitchen and make something for yourself. And I think you won't have to do that either because I'm pretty sure there would be some leftovers from dinner in the fridge."
"But I don't want to eat some leftover food. I'm craving some fast food actually." I told him.
"Craving? Isn't it too soon for that considering we still haven't had sex."
I glared at him. "Can you stop thinking about that for a moment? I'm serious. I want some delicious burger and nuggets right now."
"Kate," he sighed. "Look, its past midnight. We can not go out at this time for some burger and nuggets. How about you find something else to eat and we can go to McDonald's or wherever you want to go tomorrow or some other time maybe?"
"But I want it now," I whined. "Can't you fulfil my wishes for once?"
"Come on, love. Not right now."
"Either you are going to take me out for some fast food right now or I am going to take my pillow and sleep in the guest room." I threatened him.
"Darling, liste-" he tried again. But I simply got up from the bed and stared at him.
"I'm going to the guest room. Good night," I told him.
He breathed out a sigh of frustration before putting his laptop away. "Fine," he said. "Come on, let's go eat fucking burgers."
We drove to the nearest McDonald's but Dimitri stayed quiet the whole time. Even when we were on our way back, he didn't say single word. I didn't bother paying him much attention, solely focusing on the food in my hands.
Dimitri stopped the car near the Estate's entrance and turned towards me.
"Are you happy now?" He asked.
I gave him a small smile. "Yes, thank you."
"No need to thank me. It is, after all, my duty to fulfil my wife's wishes and demands. But if you have any issue with the food at home, you can always ask the chef to fix you something you actually like. Or we could simply hire someone new."
"No. It's just that I haven't had any fast food since coming here. All you ask them to feed me is healthy food. Which is good for me, I know. But it's good to eat something different sometimes."
"Okay," he said.
He kept looking at me before his thumb touched the corner of my face and swiped away. "You had some ketchup there," he said, showing me his thumb. He then licked it, making me look at him with widened eyes. He smirked and chuckled lightly at my expression.
"I love you, Kate," he whispered, moving forwards and softly kissing me.
I felt a tear make its way down my cheek as I remembered that night. He was ruthless, no doubt, but he took care of me. But that was all before I fucked up big time.
I didn't love him. But I had started enjoying his presence. I liked having him around me. I, myself, was confused about my feelings for him. I knew it wasn't love, but it wasn't hate either.
I really hoped he would come back soon and forgive me. Or at least contact me, even if he planned to stay away for a while. Because I didn't like this distance between us.
I missed him. I missed my husband.
