Chapter 10
1 WEEK LATER
Dimitri
I was in Singapore, dealing with some traitors who had tried to cross me. I wouldn't have come if things weren't getting so out of control. Besides, beating the shit out of those bastards helped me get rid of some of the anger and frustration that I felt towards Kate.
She had been calling me continuously, but I didn't want to talk to her. Not when my inner demons were controlling me, when I could say something that would hurt her. No matter how angry, frustrated or hurt I felt, I would never want her to feel any pain.
But maybe, it was better this way. Maybe this distance will do us some good. Maybe it will make her realise that she could forget that dead piece of shit and fall for me.
Kate
I was sure now that Dimitri wasn't coming back. He had left me here. One week had passed and he still had not contacted me. I wanted to hear his voice once. I was scared.
I don't know what was happening. But something inside me was worried for him. I knew his line of work was extremely dangerous and I was worried something might happen to him. I remembered that time when he had forced me to stay with him and I used to pray for his demise all the time.
But now, I wasn't ready for anything like that. Although, I never wanted to accept this, but he was the only person I had by my side. And if he left me as well, I didn't know what I would do.
Unknowingly, I had started depending on him. My days started with his sharp eyes and soft smiles. And my nights were filled with our crazy banter and his warmth that would envelop me when I fell asleep.
There was nobody here at the estate who would inform me of my husband's well being. Eric, his second in command, was with him in Singapore. I didn't know much about anyone else. I had nobody with whom I could share my thoughts and emotions, nobody who could guide me about what I was feeling.
I just hoped Dimitri would come back soon.
3 DAYS LATER
I was sitting by the window, phone in hand, still hopelessly waiting for Dimitri. A few minutes later, I saw a few cars in the driveway. The cars stopped and I saw Dimitri stepping out of one of them.
I felt my heartbeat increase as I looked at him from the window. With his dishevelled hair and grey taylor suit, he looked so dangerous yet devilishly handsome.
I stood there for a few moments before running out of the room and down the stairs. As soon as my feet touched the ground, I saw him crossing the threshold and coming inside all the while typing furiously on his phone.
My feet stopped right there as I felt myself breathing hard. He looked up from his phone and his eyes met mine.
I couldn't help the stray tear that ran down my cheek as I stared into his dark orbs. And then I turned around, and ran upstairs back to my room.
Dimitri
I was busy on the phone while walking into the estate. But as soon as I looked up, I found my love standing there, looking at me. As soon as her eyes met mine, I saw a teardrop make its way down her soft cheek. And then she turned around and ran upstairs.
I couldn't help but run after her. As soon as I opened our bedroom door, I found her standing in the middle of the room, looking down, her body shaking slightly.
I put my arms around her waist, turning her towards me.
"My love," I said holding her.
"Dimitri," she whispered looking into my eyes, before she hugged me tightly, hiding her face in my chest as her body racked with sobs.
I held her close to me, my arms tightening around her, as I caressed her hair, lightly kissing her head. Deep uncontrollable sobs squeezed the breath out of her and her tears kept flowing, wetting my shirt. I felt my heart constrict inside my chest with each cry that escaped her lips.
"Kate," I whispered, rubbing her back gently. "Darling, please stop crying."
"I-I-I was so sc-scared," she stammered.
I pulled away slightly, holding her face in my hands. I wiped away her tears.
"Why were you scared, love?" I asked her.
"I-I thought...I thought," she hiccuped, as a few tears left her beautiful eyes.
"You thought what?" I asked her. "Kate, look at me. Tell me, love. What happened? What were you thinking?"
I saw her eyes once again fill with tears. "I thought you left me. I thought you left me all alone. I thought you won't come back ever. I-"
Her words caught in her throat, as the stored tears continued to flow, and sobs wracked her body, robbing it of the ability to speak, barely allowing a breath to be drawn. She hugged me again as she left out all her emotions in the form of her hurtful cries.
A few minutes later, when I felt her calming down a little, I pulled back slightly, and wiped her tears away, kissing her forehead.
Cradling her face in my hands, I looked deep into her eyes.
"My love, you may have hurt me and I may be angry at you, but nothing, no hurt or anger, can make me leave you. I love you so much, Kate."
I bent forward and kissed the corner of her lips, feeling her take in a shuddering breath.
"I am sorry for that day, Dimitri. I don't know what happened. I didn't mean to say his name like that. I didn't mean to hurt you. I'm so sorry." She said quietly.
"Stop apologising, Kate. It's all in the past. I am not angry anymore."
"Promise me," she said. "Promise me, no matter how furious you get, no matter what I do, you won't leave me. Ever."
"Never, Kate. Never in a million years."
I moved closer to her face, my lips meeting hers in a passionate kiss. She kissed me fervently, pouring all her emotions into it, as I, myself, let go of all the anger and frustration, kissing her with all my might. My tongue swiped over her bottom lip, seeking entrance and she opened her mouth a little, allowing my tongue to meet hers in a slow, sweet dance.
I pulled away when I felt her getting breathless, and held her blushing face in my hands.
"I would never leave you, darling," I told her, pecking her lips once again.
"Because I love you so much, Mrs. Kate Kuznetsov."
With that I captured her lips with mine again.
