Wanting her back

~

I floated in the sea of silvers in his eyes completely absorbed by them. No soul could take me away from him. His eyes watched me slowly hopelessly drowning, his gaze made everything around me vanish; Erwins voice which was the loudest thing in the room was now so distant and almost silent like he had stopped in time like every thought that had occupied my mind.

He didn't take his eyes away either, and for a unknown reason I felt the corners of my lips fold upwards. His gaze made my heart flutter slightly. He had some sort of curse in those silver eyes that refused to let me go.

A sharp pressure come from my side yet no matter how much it tried to turn my attention, I was still fixed on him, another jab, and then another. Only when his eyes traveled down to where the pain was coming from I could come up for air, my eyes shot towards the person who was attacking my side.

They had a smirk that could give any creature night terrors. I searched their face trying to find something, anything else but what I was seeing. My eyes stayed on their lips and they moved, mouthing something.

"Distracted huh?" My eyes widen at the realisation that everyone in the room could probably tell that I wasn't with them, Hange just gave me that stupid mischievous chuckle of theirs then turned.

My gaze fell onto my hands, which were on the table playing with the edge of the sheet everyone in the room had in front of them, even so I couldn't help myself but let a small smile creep it's way onto my lips. My eyes shot back up at the man who's eyes I was desperately drowning in a minute ago, the corner of my lips lifted further as we met eyes again.

~third person pov~

He watched from afar, jealousy building up inside him. Absorbing every other emotion like a sponge. He couldn't help but feel the urge to barge in and snatch her away, away from her new life.

Away from him.

The way she smiled at this new person; how her eyes were filled with a sparkle he had never gotten the chance to see, that new genuine smile she gave the new man. A smile which he had never experienced before. This new side he was seeing was nothing of what he was used to, and what made his blood boil the most was that this new side was being shown to another man.

His fist clenched together along with his chaw, she looked happy with him something she never was before. He stood up taking in the unsettling feeling inside his chest. He needed her to love him again, he will never give up on that.

[time skip]

The tall old structure stood proudly in front of him, a few vines hanged from the side; beautiful yellow and pink flowers peeking through the greens giving the dark, lively habitation. Two guards stood against the large black door guarding the building, they snickered and threw a few looks at each other.

The man cursed at them under his breath at their incompetence of doing their jobs. He made his way towards them their faces becoming clearer. They both wore the same uniform; black trousers along with a black turtleneck, one of them had his hair up in a bun, some of his brown curls falling down onto his tanned skin. The one on the right had a buzz-cut, they both had similar brown eyes and a few freckles scattered over their faces. He walked forward towards the two. When he got in front of them they both straighten themselves, their gazes jolting forward.

"Sir!" They both said in sync.

The man gave them a look before walking through the door entering the building. Inside, maids ran around the hallways that welcomed him with trays on top of trays. Guards stood through the corridors helping around while some stood ready for combat if needed.

"Sir!" A maid approached him holding some folded cloths, "you're back." She stated with a smile which the man refused to return instead he looked over into the hallway.

"Where is he?" He asked.

"Master?" The man nodded at the maids question. "He's inside the meeting room, sir." She spoke, with her words he began to walk towards the said room. He passed a few doors which were all closed. Soon his feet came to a sudden stop in front of the door he was looking for; it was wide open which was quite unusual, maids running in and out the room holding chairs, pots, books and other small items.

He peeked inside spotting the man he was searching for, the h/c stood in the middle of the room spitting out orders towards the women who were picking up tables and placing them where he told them to. He walked further in eyeing the man.

"You're here early." The h/c spoke not looking in his direction.

"There's nothing to watch." He said with a cold tone. He tried to sit on a chair near him though a maid had swooped in and grabbed it before he could, sighing he walked over to the wall and shifted his weight onto it.

"Your job isn't just to watch, you need to find a way to bring her back." The man finally turned to face him, a scratchy scar display onto it from his left cheek up to his right eyebrow. His hair slit back letting his stern hazel eyes be the centre of attention.

"Well I don't want to sit around and watch her throw herself at that piece of shit." He averted his gaze.

"Everyone. Out." He told the women in the room and as fast as those two words left his lips they all had disappeared, only leaving scattered furniture behind. "Xenos." He stiffened as his name fell off the man's lips. "I in trusted you with his job as you are one of my most skilled men I have,
you're stealthy."

"I know that." He stopped not knowing how to continue, "I just hate the way she's with him." He admitted.

"Oh come on!" The man exclaimed throwing his hands up, "she's made a new life for herself, so what? All you need to do is bring her back and she'll be all yours."

"It's not that easy if she's always with that shit head." He let out.

"Levi, was it? He's a little man he can't do shit to you." He let out with a scoff.

"He's not as harmless as you think, Anwir." He spat back at him, "I saw the two fight, Y/n almost got him. But he won." He said with empty in his gaze. "She was the only one who could even have a chance against your old man..." he regretted his words right after they had fallen out of his mouth. His gaze fell on the ground not wanting to see what was in Adwirs eyes.

"She's weak." The h/c responded with a cold irritated tone, "the only reason she was praised was because she was the oldest. She was never strong." Even though what he had said were lies, Xenos knew there was no way of saying against them.

"Sir." A guard entered with some papers in hand, Adwir nodded at him then grabbed the papers his eyes fallen onto the words.

"Xenos. Go." With that he left without another word.

[Y/n's pov]

"Just admit it already, you like him." Words hit me from my right, Hange has been trying to get me to 'admit my feelings' for the past week. But there's nothing to admit.

"I have nothing to admit Hange." I say punching the leather bag with more irritated force. They were stretching on my right while I was angrily attacking a brown, beat up, punching bag that hung from the ceiling off a metal chain.

"Y/nnnnnnnnn" they moaned at me frustration building up in their voice, I rolled my eyes. "He clearly likes you for walls sake."

"He does not." I say bluntly. It was the truth, Levi did not like me he barely wants to be around me. "He hates being in my company."

"Yet, the two of you are always together." They spoke, I already knew they were smirking I didn't need to look at their face to check if it was there. "Just make a move on him. Maybe pretend to trip on top of him and accidentally touch your lips with his."

I dropped my hands at Hange's fantasies. Images entered my mind without permission and I couldn't help the warmth that was crawling up to my face. But before I could say anything back I felt the weight of the bag hit my front causing me to stumble backwards, I tried to keep my balance but unfortunately for me I had fallen on my ass.

With a the thump that came from underneath me a loud laugh resonated from where Hange was, my eyes shot to theirs; they held their stomach as they laughed as if they just saw the most funniest thing. Maybe seeing me on my ass looks funny. After they calmed themselves down they started to walk closer to me.

"Even the thought of you kissing him makes you trip over yourself." They stopped as they saw the glare I was throwing at them. "I wonder what you'll do when it actually happens."

"It won't happen!" I say my cheeks growing hotter with their every word. A weird sensation was building up inside my stomach and it wasn't from the fact I was just tackled by a punching bag, though I would of wished that would have been the case.

I looked down at my feet, Hange's shoes were somewhere in my line of sight. I didn't understand this at all. My feelings were all over the place. I told myself this flutter inside my abdomen was nothing, and the fact that I felt like my heart was failing at beating correctly, I kept telling myself this was all nothing.

But how long am I going to keep pretending...

"It will never happen..." sadness seeped into my words without my intention and I could feel Hange's gaze change. I had to keep these stupid feelings away, Erwin is right... he always is.

"What will never happen?" A voice I couldn't handle hearing at the moment came from behind me, a voice I've come to reluctantly crave to hear. Hange stiffened and started to blabber an excuse to pull me out of the whole they had pushed me in.

I remained on the ground, in the same position and my gaze still on my feet. Levi's body only got closer as I felt his warmth near my shoulder. "So that's why it will never happen because unicorns aren't real so there's no way you could ever ride them." Hange kept on.

"Tch, I regret asking." He let out with a sigh then his attention turn to me. "L/n get off your damn ass and go help with the fucking cleaning." Levi's words had somehow passed right through me. I couldn't focus at all today which was starting to get on my nerves. "L/n."

L/n.

He hasn't called me by my first name since that day which hurt me in a weird way. I suppose I was used to getting called by it and now that it's changed it feels wrong, I really don't like when things change like this.

"Y/n are you okay?" Hange's voice finally pulled me out of my head and I looked up at them.

"Yes. Yes I am." I say then pushed myself off the ground and back on my feet, then brushing away some dust off my workout clothes.

"Get your ass to cleaning then." I ultimately turned to him but I couldn't dare to lock gazes with him. "You're going to clean the library." With that he swiftly turned onto his heal and started to walk out the room.

"Y/n?" My eyes then shot to Hange's golden ones. "Are you sure you're ok?" I let out a breath then plastered a decent apologetic smile on my face.

"I'm ok, don't worry Hange." I turned in the direction where the grumpy short man had disappeared to.

Am I ok?

[two hours later]

It's been around two hours since I was forced in cleaning the library. By myself. I've done half of it already which is quite surprising given the fact that the scouts library is massive, someone would think it wouldn't be since it doesn't have as many 'normal books' as other public library's in the capital. Yet this library is filled with documents and titan discoveries and past experiments, that Hange along with other scout scientists have done.

Along with those are records of past Commanders and Corporals, which I've taken a peek inside. To my surprise there are a handful of 'normal books' placed on a small section of one of the floor to ceiling bookshelves.

Even though I was alone I still felt like there was something here with me, every now and then I could see a shadow from the corner of my eye but I knew there was no one there. My mind is only playing with me. I finished dusting the shelf in front of me, then turned to pick up the pile of books to return them to their place.

I struggled to balance them with my forehead as they past the height of my head, moving slowly towards the shelf I felt the books tilt but before I could adjust myself the book that settled on the top had now fallen and before I knew it, the book landed on my foot.
"Fuck!" I say trying not to move as I knew if I did I would be buried under the rest of the books. I quickly placed them away in their home then turned to the book that was lying open over my toes, the pain had faded away. I picked it up staring at the first page.

"Ilse Langnar." I read out loud, a few paragraphs were written under her name. At the bottom right corner of the page the words 'death cause' was written but instead of the cause being written it read.

"Lost in the forest of giant trees." Just that, no actual say of how she died. Normally there would be two ways a soldier was put down, either 'missing' or 'died in battle' so this seemed a bit odd. I was about to shut the book and place it back in it's place though a small piece of paper fell out. I looked at it before picking it up, I opened it then started to read it.

Found inside a tree, her skin decade only bones left behind. Only source of identification was a diary that was inside her uniform jacket, the name Ilse Langnar was written on every page.

It looked like Hange's handwritten so that meant they found her after all. "What was she doing inside a tree though."

"Who knows, maybe taking a nap." I shot my eyes up to see no other than Levi leaning against the door frame, both arms over his chest the cloths on his head and neck still there.

"How do you know whom I'm talking about?" I raised an eyebrow not understanding how he could know who I was on about as he didn't even read the piece of paper.

"Ilse Langnar?" He said in a question and I nodded, " Hange and I were the ones which found her." He said lifting himself off the wood then starting to walk closer to me. "I thought I told you to clean not to sit here and read, are you trying to trick me L/n?"

I turned and placed the book back in its place before speaking "oh no you caught me." I say with sarcasm at the end of my words.

"You know I don't like when brats slack off." He said in a much colder tone then before. I sigh not turning to look at him though I could feel him glaring holes in the side of my head.

"I just took a small break, I've been working nonstop since you pushed me in here with a broom and duster." I speak with exhaustion. "Cut me some slack, jeez." I say that a little quieter, yet I knew he could still hear me, a pout was hanging off my lips.

"Fine, you may have a fifteen minute break." I turn to look at him but before I could say anything else he had disappeared through the door, leaving behind his ghost. I turned over to the closest table then pulled up a chair for myself, I looked at the door one last time secretly hoping he would come back.

"Fifteen minutes huh, that's enough time to get some lost sleep in." I say to no one then placed my head down on my folded arms.

~Levi's pov~

He walked back in with two cups hung on the tips of his fingers, his gaze traveled to where you were before but you had disappeared. His eyebrow shot up staring at the ghost you had left behind. Maybe she's in her room. With that thought he turned to exit the unending library, but found himself jolt to a stop when he heard a small gentle snore coming from the middle of the room.

Making his way to where the soft sound was coming from his silvery blue eyes landed on you; your body folded onto the table, the side of your head pressed against your forearm your face pointing at him. Small strands of h/c hairs fell from your ponytail onto your face.

His eyes strangely softened at the sight, he made his way to the opposite side of you, which wasn't much distance from you since if he had stretched his arms over the table he would reach over the length of it. He placed the cup down somewhere near you then began to take small sips of his own tea as he looked at you.

"Damn this women is gonna be the death of me." He said in a whisper as if he wished for only you to hear. Extending his right arm to you, his fingers tangled with your hair, he couldn't help himself. His thoughts started running wild finding themselves in places they shouldn't be.

She might be the only women I'd ever l-

He stopped himself from finishing his thought, knowing that once he admitted it to himself he will not be able to return. He couldn't act on his feelings, he knew better than to do so, Erwin warned him for a reason. He knew if he released his feelings, gave his heart to you, let himself fall for you even harder than he already had. There will be no return from the heartbreak not only himself but you will go through too.

Love is so hurtful.

Your sudden shift caused for him to take his hand away from your delicate hair and placing it under the table away from your sight. A groan escape you as you picked yourself of the table and once your gaze locked with Levi's, both of your hearts refused to continue working.

~Y/n's pov~

His eyes settled in mine and I could of sworn my heart stopped for the few seconds we shared gazes. I shifted my eyes away to his hand finally being able to let myself breath, in his hand rested a porcelain cup with I assume was black tea dancing inside it. And as fast, my eyes lifted off it and landed again on another cup with the same substance inside next to me.
"So this is why you disappeared." I mumbled to myself yet I could tell Levi heard me. Picking up the gentle cup and bringing it up to my lips I took a small sip, it was still hot.

"Haven't you been sleeping?" His question brought my attention back to him my eyes twisted in his once more. His face was as stoic as ever like he was physically unable to produce any kind of emotion, yet his eyes told a different story, it was faint but it was still there a spark of worry, concern.

"Late night paperwork." I reply which wasn't a complete lie, it's true I've been up most nights doing work. His eyes harden a bit. "It's fine noting I can't handle!" I say quickly trying not to upset him which if I thought about it, it was strange, before I wouldn't care if he was pissed or irritated with me but now look at me.

An absolute wreck.

"Tell eyebrows to stop giving you so much work for fucks sake, it's not like we want for you to pass out on a mission again." He said which weirdly caused for me to laugh and that only made him shoot another look at me.

"Who could of thought, that the Captain Levi would care if I get overworked." I say with another laugh but in return he rolled his eyes. "Oh don't tell me you're head over heals for me?" I spoke yet it was clearly sarcastic a small part of me wanted for him to jump up out of his seat and say yes, that he was, but I knew that would never be possible. It was Levi after all.

"Stop joking around and get your ass back to the damn cleaning." He said now with his arms folded over his chest and his eyes somewhere else.

"Oh I thought I could get a longer break." I said pouting my lip but he didn't budge so I reluctantly got up and began to dust some more books, with Levi still in his seat his eyes glued on me. "Are you just going to seat there and watch?" I turned to him with my hands resting on my hips and shifting my weight on one leg.

"Mhm" that small little meaningless sound made my heart trip over itself and my face heated. I turned my body so my back was facing him not wanting him to catch my flustered face.

And he did. With every book I brushed off and every shelf I dusted he watched me. Not saying or doing anything. Not commenting on the way I was doing anything. Just watching. Adoring my company.
