It all happened within a millisecond.

Karu opened her eyes. Her skin prickled as all she felt was pain. All her senses could grasp was the smell of unknown territory. She felt threatened.

Her hands instinctively shifted into sharp wolf talons as she noticed a man towering over her.

She swiped her paw at Edmunds throat.

As the paw was almost halfway at his throat, half a millisecind passed.

Edmund and Karus eyes locked onto one another's.

Realization dawned.

They felt the bond click into place.

Mate.

But to their horror, her paw slit his throat before she could stop herself.

The millisecond passed.

Edmund fell onto the floor with blood gushing out of his throat. He was confused and dumbfounded. It had all happened so fast.

An angel looked over him. A sobbing angel. Karu. His mate.

He tried to reach out to her. He yearned to wipe those tears off her cheeks. But he felt too weak.

As the remaining life drained out of him, he wondered with a smile; blue...her eyes were blue...
