Part 2: Meet the Parents (03/16)
I ended up talking with my sis for the rest of the night. I was so startled by the shadow earlier that night I decided it would be best to not sleep; to which I would have to severely pay for later.
The next day was college, but my mom had called me telling me not to go. She knows how I wasn't too keen on just skipping a day, but knowing her she wouldn't tell me to basically skip school for nothing. I decided to go.
Since it was just my mom, I decided to wear a simple t-shirt and jeans. I drove to her house which was a few miles away, but there was quite a lot of traffic to get there, it was because of this I was reminded to why I stopped living with my parents.
I decided to get her a little something as a house warming gift, she did teach me how to do that.
As soon as I entered, she pulled me all the way to my old room without even a simple greeting; how rude!
"I can't believe you had the actual Gaul to come in such a shabby outfit! Don't you even know what day it is?" The only thing I could do was draw a blank stare. I honestly didn't know what day it was, being busy with college and all forced me to forget things that I personally didn't deem important.
"You're going to meet the Parkers today.....remember the family of your potential partner....?"
It then dawned on me, I can't believe I forgot about today though. Sighing in defeat, I looked at my mother through my eyelashes, letting out a nervous laugh. "Sorry ma, I honestly didn't mean to forget. I'm guessing you already had something for me to wear."
"Thankfully, being your mother and knowing you, I did." She then pulls out from my old closet a gray romper with long pants and a sweetheart neckline. Along with it was a matching blazer. I simply took the articles of clothing and went into another room to change.
When I was finished, I started to rummage for some heels knowing that my short stature wouldn't be the most appealing sight. I pick up a pair of navy blue t-shaped high heels to compliment the outfit. I give my mother a spin as I go to meet her again, "How do I look?"
"Exquisite, thank God you didn't gain too much weight, or else this would have had to go to Goodwill." My face begins to tint at my mother's statement; I wasn't the skinniest person nor was I fat, I was in between. I was a size 10, just around average; I had big boobs and thick thighs. I never thought of it as a bad thing at all, everybody has a different shape, not everyone was built to have a model body. Then my mother comes along, making comments about my body endlessly. I remember when I was a teenager I would take it to heart, but now I would simply ignore; I run every other day and I have a well balanced diet, I shouldn't feel bad about my body at all.
"Thanks mom, glad to know that." I simply walk out of the room, getting ready for the arrival of my 'future'. "Oh, Honey, you know I don't mean it in a bad way. I just want the best for you." I could hear her frown seeing my nonchalance. "I know mom. I'm just a bit nervous for the meeting. You know how I am with guys." It wasn't exactly a lie, I was quite nervous.
She smiles and gives me a hug, "Don't worry dear. You're such a sweet, smart girl. I'm more than sure they will like you."
I smile back at her, believing what she says. As we're having this happy moment, the door bell rings. My mom gets out of the embrace and rushes down the stairs towards the door, butterflies start forming in my stomach. I guess it's really happening now.
As I begin to walk down the stairs, I hear my mother greeting our guest. "Lynda! Bradley! Such a joy to see you again, it's been a while hasn't it?" I don't really remember these names, then again I was never one to really be involved in my parent's business inquires or friends.
I walk into the main room, where I see the three sitting down, talking about how they were. When they see me I shyly smile and walk towards them. "Good afternoon Mr and Mrs. Parker. It's such a pleasure to see you." "This is Jasmine, our daughter." I think they knew who I was, but my mother interjected out of politeness. "Ahh yes, your daughter. It's a pleasure to meet you to, but please, call my Lynda." Mrs.Parker, or Lynda as she would liked to be addressed as, gives out her hand, which I shake. I do the same with Mr.Parker, who simply smiles at me. When I'm done I sit next to my mother, unsure of what I should really do.
"And where's Johnathon?"
"Oh, he's in a business meeting right now, he should be able to come for dinner. I'm sorry for the inconvenience."
"Oh no it's fine! I guess what matters the most is that Jasmine and Johnathon meet each other and have a good time, right?"
We spent the rest of the time just drinking tea and talking. Occasionally the Parkers did ask me questions about my personal life in which I'd answer in a satisfactory way. It seemed as though they themselves personally liked me; I was smart, I wasn't into anything scandalous, and according to them 'just what Johnathon likes'. It felt a bit demeaning hearing that, but I brush it off.
My father soon arrives, along with my sister and her family. I wasn't expecting my sister to come, but it seems like the whole family wants to see who this guy is, the man I'm supposed to marry. Despite meeting his parents, whom from what I'm seeing like me, I was a bit reluctant to meet him. I do have a boyfriend, who I absolutely love with all my heart. My parents knew about him, and they like him alot, but that didn't stop them from this arrangement. What my mother said was, 'You need someone who has a secure future. If something were to happen there's money to fall back on'. She knows how I don't care too much for money, but it was her way of saying that my opinion doesn't really matter that much.
We all were sitting in the living room, my parents talking to the Parkers, and I was talking with my sister. She knew how nervous I was, especially with what happened with me last night. So I did end up telling her what happened, just leaving out the fact that it was a club that it happened in. She kept on telling me that everything would be okay, but I wasn't so sure about it. I just had a gut feeling something else may happen. Great, now I'm paranoid.
In the mist of it all, we hear the doorbell ring. All of us looked as my mother went to open the door, my sister holding my had to comfort me.
"Ah, Johnathon! It's so good to see you again, everybody's inside!" Saying I was nervous would be an understatement. In turn to distract myself, I take Riana's baby in my arms, hoping that I would calm down.
Footsteps were heard coming closer, my heart was starting to beat faster. Either I would be pleasantly or unpleasantly surprised, I rather not have the latter.
"Everyone, Johnathon's here!" I immediately look up to see the man of the hour, and I was not happy.
Those eyes, those big blue eyes seem all too familiar. The hair looks familiar also, then comes the lips that form into a smirk. I sit there, shock covering my face. I-I can't move, think, or even breath. Realizing the latter I inhale a breath before looking away. It's a man from yesterday, my worst nightmare coming back to haunt me.
"Jasmine dear, are you all right? You've seem to....pale."
"I-I'm fine mother." I try to give the best smile I could, but it really wasn't much. I squeeze onto my sister's hand as if to warn her, to signal her that he's the one I was telling her about, but I don't think she understood. Maybe she's just hiding it, if so then she could be a really good actress.
I was constantly looking down, until I saw two shoes within my vision, I then look up to see him once more.
"Johnathon, it's a pleasure to meet you, Jasmine." The way he said my name was weird, it sounded more like a drawl. Having to hear his voice better now, it was deep, really deep. He also had a British accent.
He took my free hand, bringing it up to his mouth, kissing it softly, but his eyes were staring deeply into mine. His stubble tickles my hand a little. I almost forgot what happened yesterday, but I remember, pulling my hand away, I cradle it with my other hand, refusing to look at him. "Nice to meet you too....." I felt sick in my stomach knowing he wasn't going anywhere.
Despite noticing my behavior, my mother dismisses it, "We all should go to the dining room to eat dinner now; I'm famished!" Everyone agreed and started to walk in the same direction as my mother. Johnathon didn't move an inch; instead he just stared down at me. Riana too started to started to go into the dining room, I grab her hand as if to ask her for my help, but she simply slipped her hand and took her baby into the other room, giving my an apologetic glance along the way.
Here I was, now left with my nightmare. I have no other choice but to look at him now. "Well, well, we meet again, except now in somewhat more....desirable circumstances." His limber fingers then touch my face, tracing my jawline before pushing up my face to properly look at him. "Seeing you now in the light, I find you even more attractive. From your brown eyes to your nose to your.......delectable lips." His fingers ghost over my lips. I desperately want to say something, but I'm afraid. He knows I'm afraid and is feeding off of it. He knows of his upperhand right now, it's not like I could run away like I did yesterday.
His eyes soon zero onto my lips also, his eyes staring a hole through them. I know what he wants to do, and I think I'll let him get away with it. His head comes down, closer to mine, my heart starts to pound faster wanting him to stop. I try to pull away, using my hands to loosen his grip on my, but in turn I feel a harsh grip on my face as well as my wrist. He stops a few millimeters away from my mouth,
"Don't ever do that again"
I let out a shaky breath to his command. He was intimidating, to say the least. I couldn't believe he commanded me to do something, nobody has ever done that to me before. I didn't retaliate though, I was perfectly fine without another tug to my face.
He connects our lips, his stubble prickling my face. I don't kiss back, but I don't move away either. I let him do whatever he wants; something I didn't realize would be a reoccurring theme in my future with him.
When he finally lets go of me, I fight the urge to wipe my lips. I look up at him only to quickly look away.
"W-We should meet the others, they might be wondering where we are." He gives an amused smile at my flustered behavior. He then comes closer to me, giving me his hand.
"Shall we then?"
