(I had writer's block and I needed a break to brainstorm since this story is so much more intricate with more hidden details than all my other stories but now I am back with fresh ideas!)
It was dark as night as I walked down the stairs towards this empty corridor in the house, the house seemed distantly familiar but I just couldn't remember where or when I was in this house once. There seemed to be no sign of light or living presence in this house until I reached the bottom of the stairs where I noticed a door slightly ajar with a dim light leaking out from behind it. I quickly scurried over to the door where I realized just how tall it was compared to me.
Or maybe I was short? Everything in the house did seem much more taller, so maybe this was a memory from my childhood...so where have I seen this house before?
I opened the door fully as I was welcomed to a flight of stairs leading down deeper into the basement of the home. Carefully, I made my way down the stairs as the light began to appear closer and closer shining brightly in my face. As I reached the bottom of the stairwell I carefully turned the corner where I noticed a woman chained to the wall, bloodied and bruised as gashes and scars littered her beautiful brown skin, she was smiling up at a man whom stood right in front of her with such a fear and paranoia dancing in the pupils in his eyes as he turned to me, dagger in his unsteady hands.
"Go back upstairs until I'm ready to deal with you DEMON!" He snapped in my face as his eyes widened in my direction.
Demon? What possibly could he be talking about?
I looked over at the woman who looked oddly familiar even though I was sure I had never met her before in my life. I would be able to remember a woman as beautiful as her, beautiful ebony brown skin with such a clear complexion, her eyes...her eyes!
That was when it hit me, she looked dangerously similar to Alpha Isis except older but this time only one of her eyes were gold and the other was as black as night which meant this wasn't a memory or dream of mine at all, this was all Isis's memory, but why was I seeing it?
"Look me in my eyes child, do I look like I'm in pain at all?" The woman called out to me, her voice was much more deeper and melancholy than Isis's current voice.
I shook my head in her direction.
"Never show them pain child, pain is what fuels us, makes us stronger, it excites us!" She laughed manically as the man screamed and slapped his hand over her mouth.
"This can't be real, I don't believe it. YOU TRICKED ME YOU DISGUSTING CREATURE! I mated with you, I rejected my mate for you and planted my seed in you just for you to give birth to a monster!" He gasped out in pain, staggering away from the chained woman as he covered his face with his hands.
He was a tall man, a little lighter than both Isis and her mother Talia with honey brown eyes that seemed ridden with paranoia and hopelessness as if he were ready to give up on living all because of this moment.
"10 years...10 fucking years you lied to me! If the council...no if other Alpha's found out about what I helped create, what you truly are, I would be destroyed, my entire pack would be burned to the ground," He began muttering to himself as he turned his back to us, pacing back and forth.
I looked over and noticed the woman using her long nails to pick at the locks of the chains, ultimately freeing her from her shackles.
"Child run!!!" She laughed as she turned towards me and pushed in my direction causing an invisible force to push me up the stairs. I quickly scrambled to my feet and scurried up the stairs, not daring to look back at the scene ahead of me as a ferocious roar rang behind us and we bolted from the hidden basement and out towards the front door. Excitement pumped through my veins, curiosity covered my skin, adrenaline wrapped itself around my bones as I looked beside me to see Isis's mother Talia running by my side with not a look of dread or fear which was what I presumed to be there but a look of pure joy, as if there was nothing more she loved most in this world than giving pain to others.
Suddenly darkness fell around me as I was alone, no where to run, nothing to see from afar, not even my own two feet in front of me.
A hiss of annoyance filled my ears as I covered hands over my ears and crouched low to the ground, wishing for the painful sound to escape my mind but it was no use.
"You weren't supposed to see that, why are you in my head without permission?" I heard her eerie voice all around me, denying me permission to see her.
"You constantly invade my head without my permission! Where's the fairness in that?!" I shouted out in the darkness but in truth, I wasn't even sure how I managed to peer inside her brain, it was all an accident.
"GET OUT!" Her scream rang in my ears.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I immediately shot up from my slumber and looked around to noticed I was in the back seat of a car as it zoomed throughout the forest, treetops whizzing past us as we made our way to our destination...wherever that may be.
I sat up and looked to see Issac staring at me from the rear view mirror while behind the wheel and huffed in annoyance as he noticed I was finally awake.
"Where are we going?" I groaned in pain as I clutched my head, that same sound still slightly ringing within me from a distance, causing a growing confusion to multiply within me.
"My Alpha has requested for me to send you back to your pack while she's busy with her plans, you were in her way!" Issac said coldly.
I chuckled at his cold demeanor towards me as I slumped back in my seat and shook my head.
"The way you follow behind her so blindly is so amusing and pathetic. You know nothing of her past or where she comes from but yet here you are acting as her little lap dog and following her every command like you're powerless, you're an excellent Alpha decoy. You're truly a Beta born with the scent and damn near same power as an Alpha born but yet here you are following behind this woman," I chuckled as I stared out the window.
Alpha Isis was truly dangerous and powerful and even though I knew how terrifying that was it was also what I loved about her. But I would never find myself following behind a woman in power, it has always been the Alpha males in command with the Alpha females by their side, giving birth to strong generations to continue to strengthen our bloodlines and yet, Isis had no interest in any of that. She was achieving what no woman had done in existence and if any other men found out they'd have her head. Not to mention she was a terrifying and forbidden half breed, something never meant to be alive.
"I don't care what you have to say about me Alpha Kaiden, my life belongs to Alpha Isis and I won't stop until I have fulfilled my duty to her and only then may I be allowed to rest in peace. Until that time comes I will continue to fulfill her every command," He stated.
I noticed his knuckles began to slightly redden as he gripped the steering wheel harder and harder.
"It's creepy how devoted you are to her honestly, leave my mate the fuck alone?" I growled out loud, becoming familiar with the area we were in, meaning we were drawing nearer to my pack.
"So what? You can have them both to yourself? Go to Isis when you want some spice in your life but fall back to Adrianna when Isis is becoming too much and you want a more homey feeling? When Isis murders that poor girl her blood will be all on your hands," He smirked, realizing he was pressing my buttons.
"I won't let that happen," I huffed as we pulled up towards the northern entrance of my pack where border patrol began to circle the car.
I reached for the handle of the car door and pulled it open as I heard Issac chuckling behind me.
"Two dead men in a car together whose fates lie in the hands of one woman, controlling their destinies and cruelly controlling us like the true puppeteer she is but the only difference between us is that I know how exactly this all ends for me, I know how my death comes about but you on the other hand...you're in for one hell of a ride," He said to me before I slammed the door behind me and walked away from the vehicle, nearing my border patrol.
He zoomed away from the clearing just as the others began shift into their humans forms, concerned with my wellbeing.
"Alpha are you alright?"
"What's happening amongst Alpha Michael?"
"Should we be concerned for the Divine Celeste pack?"
"Enough with the questions! I am perfectly fine and I will be addressing any and all questions once I arrange a meeting, until then assume your positions!" I ordered out causing a surge to flow throughout them all, feeling my demanding aura and causing them to bow in obedience.
"Yes, my Alpha,"
I walked away from the group, fuming but also deep down I was scared because I knew that Issac was right and it was only a matter of time before Isis does away with Adrianna so she could have me all to herself just like she wanted. I needed to find a a way to prevent that, I needed a way to spare Adrianna and Taylor's life.
I couldn't let them die due to my idiocy and selfishness.
'Marco, meet me in my office immediately, we have actions we need to discuss urgently,' I sent through our mind link, only used when there is an emergency.
'Yes, my Alpha,'
I raced towards the pack house, avoiding any and all questions from anyone as I barricaded myself into my office, pressing my back against the wall and sliding down until I felt myself hit the ground. This was becoming bigger than just Alpha Isis and I. She was taking all of the neighboring packs around me right from under my nose and it was a matter of time before she finally shows up at mine, demanding to claim me and my land.
There was a knock at the door and I quickly scrambled up to my feet and opened the door to reveal my Beta Marco.
"You summoned for me?" He asked as he bowed.
I grabbed for his arm and roughly pulled him inside, slamming the door behind him and collapsing back onto the floor.
"What happened?" Marco asked frantically as he crouched down to my level with concern on his face.
"Alpha Michael and his family has fallen, the Divine Celeste pack is now under her control and who knows when she'll come knocking at this one," I said with my head in my hands, staring straight at the floor.
"She's doing it right under everyone's noses, all the other Alpha's are oblivious and even the council and by the time any of them realize who she is and what her motives are, it'll be too late. She'll have an entire army behind her," Marco said in horror as he stood up.
"She's too dangerous to allow her to continue this but there isn't much I can do," I said desperately.
"We have to warn the council, other Alpha's something! We can't let this happen or we will be handing over power to this woman! You are the Alpha of the Dark Moon pack and all you're doing is cowering on the ground because of this woman," Marco spat at me, disgusted.
"SHE IS MY MATE, WE ARE CONNECTED AND THERE IS NOTHING I CAN DO ABOUT IT! Warning anyone means the death of me which means the death of this pack! I WANT TO PROTECT WHAT HAS BEEN PASSED DOWN TO MY FAMILY FOR GENERATIONS BUT I ALSO WANT TO PROTECT ME AND MY FAMILY!!!" I roared up at him, tears daring to spill from my eyes.
"You're different, you said you needed a woman with power, someone with heat, fire and passion but now look at you. Ever since you've met this woman you've been burned alive by her intensity and you can't even handle it," Marco said, looking down at me with pity.
It's true, I wasn't the Alpha I had used to be and it was all because of her, she was breaking me down, she was doing things inside of me that I didn't quite understand but it was making me softer, no. It was making me realize this wasn't what I wanted all along.
'You experienced true power and you will come to realize you will never know true power until you fully succumb to me and only me,'
Her venomous voice echoed in my head like a haunting dream.
"Get out of my head, get out of my head!" I shouted as I repeatedly banged against the sides of my head.
"Kaiden," I looked up to see Marco staring at me, eye level as he placed his hand on my shoulder.
"Whether she is your mate or not Kaiden this is a act of war. Conquering surrounding lands is an act so disrespectful that it is a sign of war, don't you remember your father drilling that into your head?"
*Flashback*
I stood in the center of the room as my father circled around me, my hands behind my back, my feet spread shoulder length and my chin tilted up towards the ceiling.
"When you are at the top Kaiden, those below you will stop at nothing to rid you of your power," My father's voice echoed throughout the chamber, leaving an eerie silence after he spoke.
"Never let another Alpha try to conquer you from the shadows, bring them to the light and make sure you obliviate them until there is nothing left but a faded memory," My father snarled as he continued to circle me. I tried to slow my heart rate but I couldn't stop, no matter how calm I tried to make myself I just couldn't in the presence of him, especially when we were alone, pain always seemed to follow behind whenever we were alone together.
"Isn't there another way?" I asked quietly.
Just as soon as I had spoken out I felt something ram hard into my spine, nearly throwing me off balance.
"You don't speak until I grant you permission to speak, why won't that drill into your head boy?" He growled.
I remained silent, trying to ignore the splinting pain spreading throughout my lower back but the urge to cry out in pain was intense.
"Conquering in the shadows means to capture all surrounding land around yours, to secretly convert your allies to enemies right under your nose, have your entire pack turn their backs on you. Is that what you want Kaiden? Have everything these generations have worked so hard for to go down the drain? Waste away while you sit there on your ass?" He growled at me.
"We are a proud pack, proud of our power, proud of our history, of our ruling and we will let no one stand in the way of that, do you understand?" He asked as he stood right in front of me, glaring down at me with a murderous intent in his eyes.
"Yes, my Alpha I understand," I said as clearly as I could, trying to disguise my shaky voice.
"Good, you're learning, you are dismissed and don't you dare try to speak a word of this to your sister, as an Alpha female her only priority is to hope her mate is of strong descent and birth the strongest offspring, training of an Alpha has nothing to do with her," He informed as he turned away from me.
"Why is it that she gets treated like the favorite child, oblivious to anything while I have to go through such rigorous training?" I complained, instantly biting my tongue as I realized I spoke out of turn and prepared for pain to follow behind it.
But nothing happened.
I looked up to see my father staring back at me with an annoyed expression but no intentions on disciplining me this time around.
"Stress takes a toll on the reproductive system if a woman, the more stressed she is the harder it will be for her to give birth to sufficient pups. The easier and simpler her life is from the beginning the better it will be for her mate, we are hoping her mate will be a future Alpha of another pack that can coax into becoming an ally and possibly taking over his pack from within. We can only hope for this outcome but only time will tell," He shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly.
This was one of the few times my father was speaking to me as if he viewed me as a normal person, as if he viewed me as his son and not a kin just to train.
"So you don't see her as a favorite child?" I asked, hoping to relieve some hidden animosity towards my sister buried deep down inside me but his answer only made me pity her.
"I don't have favorite's Kaiden, you are nothing more than someone of my bloodline that needs to be molded and shaped into the proper leader for when I pass on and continue my family legacy, in my eyes Azia is nothing more than a cow being used to breed the strongest bull and your mother agrees...she has no choice but to agree," He growled the last part as he walked away.
It saddened me that at least I always knew how my parents felt towards me, it was never hidden from me. My sister was being raised on fake love which she thought was real, living in this unknown façade but thought of as nothing more than a cow by her very own parents.
*Flashback over*
"This is an act of war," I said quietly to myself as I stared into Marco's eyes with surprise.
"Now is not the time to think of this woman as your mate, she does not belong to this pack and therefore she is a threat to us," Marco said clearly.
"Where is Nicholas? We need to arrange a war meeting, round up all of those of higher ranking and call them to the meeting room where we will have further discussion, dismissed," I shooed Marco away as I got up from the floor trying to shake myself off.
"Yes my Alpha," Marco shot a quick smirk before walking out of the office.
Maybe this was Al- Isis's way of secretly starting a war, I couldn't think of her as my mate, I had to separate my feelings from my responsibilities.
"I have to tell Adrianna," I sighed heavily.
I've been dreading this day from the moment I found Isis but I know it was only a matter of time.
I raced towards our home, ignoring all of the greetings from my pack members and gestures until I burst through the door of my eerily quiet home.
"Adrianna? Taylor?" I called out as I stepped inside and looked inside but I was only greeted my silence.
Fuck, where were they?
I heard a slight shuffling upstairs as I quickly raced up the stairs and burst through our bedroom room to be greeted by Isis staring out the window on the other side of the room her deep royal purple dress slightly flapping in the wind behind her, not bothering to look at me.
"Where is Adrianna and Taylor?" I growled.
"I don't know, when I got here they were already gone. Beautiful house you have here, did Adrianna have a say in it?" Isis asked, still staring out the window.
"This was my family's house, what happened to your ritual?" I asked while stepping closer.
"The ritual will happen tonight after all of the pack members are ordered into their homes and forbidden to come out, I've come here for you," She finally turned around to look at me, but not a seductive look like I had hoped, not even a mischievous look but it was a stare of pure malevolence, almost a demonic type look gaze in her eyes. It was as if she wasn't viewing me as her mate.
"What do you want?" I asked as I gulped, a nervous bead of sweat trailing down my forehead, almost as if I already knew what she was here for.
"You don't want a war with me Kaiden, that is the last thing you'll ever want," She said, slightly trailing her long finger nails down the side of the window frame, her hair still up in its braided bun, high up on her head like a crown.
"I never told you about a war Isis," I tried to deflect.
She walked towards me, her quiet footsteps working their way towards me as her dress treaded right behind her.
"You didn't need to say it to me, whomever planted that into your mind must have done a good job because you felt it so deep within yourself that I felt it as well. You're right about it being a matter of time before I come knocking at your door with my hand open to take your pack but I thought it would be peaceful, I merge all of the territories as we become one with each other but I guess you decided you wanted to take the harder path," She said with a slight disappointed tone.
"This is my pack, these are my people. For generations my family has stayed strong and true to this territory and I won't give it up to someone like you," I growled.
"I was hoping you wouldn't take this path Kaiden, this won't end the way you think it will, there will only be blood and death on your doorstep and it will all be your fault, it will destroy you more than I ever could," She sighed.
Rage began to fill my entire body from the sound of those words. More than she ever could? She already planted her seed in my mind, making me re live horrible memories that I tried desperately bury deep down within me. She wanted to break me down for her own enjoyment, for her own pleasure but she believed a war would destroy me more than what she was already doing.
My hand shot out from my side as I gripped her tightly against her neck, bringing her forward.
"You don't get to have a say in what will destroy me or not, you are doing that just fine," I snarled in her face.
"Kaiden you belong to me and only me and until I can make you mine I will not consider you my mate during this war you are starting, you will be looked at as the enemy rightfully so," She explained, not even concerned with my hand around her throat.
"I don't deserve someone like you, I deserve-" Before I could finish the rest of my sentence I felt something sharp swipe across my face, stinging my eye. Immediately removing my grip I felt myself being pushed onto the ground by a foot as I clutched the side of face and looked up at Isis who was seething with rage. The last time I truly ever saw Isis this upset was when I first met her during our meeting at the restaurant.
"Don't you fucking dare finish that sentence, you think you deserve her Kaiden? After everything you've done all these years?! The lives you you have stolen, the deeds you have done and you think you have the right to ignore all of that and be able to forget all of that when you go home to that warm comforting feeling? You are a weapon of mass destruction bred for this very thing, how dare you continue to look at me as if we aren't the same, people like you disgust me," She spat down at me in pure disgust.
"People like me?" I questioned, still holding onto my eye.
"Deny your destiny, deny where you belong. You run to me when you want passion and fire but yet you run to her when it becomes too much and you can't handle who you truly are, you are pathetic," She turned away from me.
"I didn't ask for any of this, I never wanted to be who my father wanted me to become," I snapped back, angry and confused.
"You think I asked for this then? You think I asked to be born? To be something the world hates? To be a forbidden creature where there is no one else like you? You think I wanted to be tortured by my own father day in and day out? You believe I enjoyed having empty relationship with the woman I call my mother? We were chosen to live these lives, we can endure it, grow from it and in return the world shall be handed to us. All you do is run from it," She bent down to my level so that our faces were inches apart.
"You don't deserve her and you know it Kaiden, you will never find comfort in her ways, you will always long for more and you will always look down on her...from here on out you have declared war on me and my people and I shall see you as nothing more than another territory to conquer until you wake up from this broken day dream you are in," She stood up as she began to walk back towards the window.
"What would you have done if Adrianna and Taylor were here instead of me?" I asked, even though I already knew the answer to that question.
"I would have slit that girl's throat so she could finally be free from your shackles," She said.
I closed my eyes, trying to ignore the burning sensation still in my face but by the time I opened my eyes to look at Isis, she was no where to be found.
