Namjoon Focus

Sitting on the edge of the bridge wall, Namjoon looked over the Han river. The water glistened under the half-crescent moon, chilly wind blowing against his face. It was four thirty in the morning, so not many cars were passing by nor any people.

Swinging his feet, Namjoon thought of jumping. The Hannam Bridge was far enough from the water for Namjoon to jump, and possibly survive. He grabbed the concrete wall and looked up at the sky, immediately locating the big dipper and the little Dipper. Astrology was a new interest since disbandment.

Hearing click-clanks of heels against the sidewalk Namjoon turned, and saw a woman with black hair approaching him. He looked away back to the water, as a small boat passed under. He watched the ripples in the dark blue water spread out until they faded.

The woman jumped up beside Namjoon on the edge, not saying a word. Confused, Namjoon looked over at her. She was smiling...

"Do you like to watch the stars too?" She asked. Namjoon didn't want to talk, but he responded: "Yes." She turned to look at him. "I'm Eunwoo." She told him. "Namjoon..." The male mumbled. He didn't care if she knew about him or not.

In theory, he could jump. He helped many people escape suicide, he served his country and made the world a better place for a good while. He was successful, and he thought he lived his life to the fullest. He was content with what he's done throughout his life. He was content with jumping.

"I know you're not sitting on the edge of a tall bridge just to look at the stars. I'm sure you can see them from your home. Do you want to jump?" Eunwoo asked him. Namjoon shrugged. He didn't want to be talked out of this. He wanted to decide for himself.

"I've done a lot in my life. I know my life matters, it's not like I hate myself. I'm not sure if I will jump from the bridge or not. I don't even know if I want to...but I do know, in case I do, I'd like to sit here and look up at the beautiful stars." Namjoon explained to her. "Hm..." Eunwoo hummed and nodded. It reminded Namjoon of a special someone...

It was silent between them for a while, only one car passing by. Namjoon reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone. Looking at his lock screen, he smiled. It was their first ever group photo as BTS, and his home screen was the very last.

"Do you have a girlfriend?" Eunwoo asked. "I don't really want to talk." Namjoon turned his phone off and put it away. "Then why did you tell me your name?" She asked. Namjoon shrugged.

Suddenly, he felt her hand overlap on top of his. Namjoon looked down, then back up at her. She smiled softly. "Let's get down, yeah?" She suggested. Namjoon pulled his hand away. "No, I'm good here." He put his hands between his legs, closing his eyes at the cold wind.

Eunwoo shrugged and turned around, jumping down back to the sidewalk. "Alright." She started to walk away, until Namjoon turned towards her. A few steps away, he spoke up. "Why aren't you going to talk me out of jumping?" He asked. She stopped and turned around. "If you don't want to jump down away from the edge, I can't make you. There's no point." She told him.

Namjoon knew she was right. He nodded and turned back to the river. He heard her walk away. Biting on his lower lip, Namjoon shuffled closer to the edge. The water would be cold. Very cold...

"Fuck." Namjoon cursed and jumped away from the edge, standing back onto the sidewalk. Eunwoo stopped walking, only a few feet away. Namjoon looked back at the river and ran a hand through his hair. He bent over the concrete railing and looked down at his feet, folding his hands as he closed his eyes.

He heard Eunwoo walk back to him. "Why did you jump away?" She asked. Namjoon took a deep breath, letting the cold air fill his lungs. He ignored her question, unsure what to answer or how.

He felt her place a hand on his back. "Do you have a home to go back to?" She asked softly. "I have a house, yes." Namjoon nodded, leaning back up. "So you're alone?" She asked. Namjoon nodded, looking down at his feet. "Did you walk here? Would you like me to walk or drive you home?" Eunwoo let go of him, standing six feet away. "I'll be fine, thank you." Namjoon started walking, but she caught up to him. "You look old enough to take care of yourself, that's why I didn't ask if you were okay. I asked if you would like me to walk or drive you back to your house." Eunwoo repeated.

Namjoon couldn't help but smirk. "Sure." He shrugged, and they walked a mile together back to Namjoon's luxurious apartment. "You're rich." Eunwoo commented. Namjoon rolled his eyes as he opened his door. "Don't call me that." He told her, allowing her in. "It's beautiful in here." Eunwoo continued to talk, until Namjoon turned around and pinned her to the wall.

"What do you want from me, Eunwoo-ya?" He asked, irritated. "I don't want anything from you except to be your friend. But based off what's happening now, you might want something from me I'm not willing to give." She cocked her head, remaining calm. Namjoon scoffed and backed up. "I'm not that type of person." He went into his kitchen, flicking the light on, as he grabbed alcohol. "You're not the type of guy to walk girls into your house?" She asked.

"Nope."

Namjoon opened the bottle. "Do you drink?" He asked. "Why, so you can take advantage while I'm drunk?" She asked, still standing against the wall. Namjoon scoffed loudly at her. "You came here on your own will, I never forced you to be here. We just met, and you said you wanted to be friends so that's what I'm offering. Friends drink together, am I wrong?" He explained, taking out two glasses. "No, you're right." Eunwoo walked over.

"Yes, I drink." She nodded, sitting down on one of the stools next to the kitchen island. Namjoon poured out the alcohol and handed the glass to her. "I don't take advantage of people." He told her, before he took a sip.

"Twenty-one questions?" Eunwoo suggested. "Are you single?" Namjoon asked, starting the game. Eunwoo smirked. "Happily." She answered. "How old are you?" She asked him. "Thirty-two." Namjoon told her, taking another drink. "Thirty-one." Eunwoo smirked. Namjoon nodded.

"Do you have many friends?" Namjoon asked. "Yes, I do." Eunwoo nodded. "Do you?" She asked. Namjoon shook his head. "Used to..." He mumbled. "What happened?" Eunwoo asked. Namjoon sighed, not answering. He didn't know how to answer. "You have to answer." Eunwoo told him. "I was a rapper, my contract ended. That's all." Namjoon explained, pouring more alcohol into his glass. Eunwoo nodded and drank some more.
