Chapter 4
Rachel almost fainted by the rush of blood racing up her skull as she stood up as quickly as she heard the words from the Med. He was alive! She raced towards the Medical, Harriet at her heels. Approaching the door, she hesitated. What would she say? What would he say? What he be crazy scared like she was-still is. Harriet didn't stop and pushed open the door to see Grace patting his forehead with a wet cloth. He seemed to be unconscious, but he was breathing. Hyperventilating to be exact. Harriet acted quickly.
"What happened?"
"He sat up and yelled, 'Things are going to change!' and laid back down and started sweating and breathing heavy. I don't know if he's back to his coma but I'll try to wake him up again." She walked over to her tools but was stopped by Harriet's voice.
"No. Let Rachel wake him up." she shifted her gaze on her and Rachel froze. She didn't know this boy, whoever he was. But, she had to try.
"I-I don't know him."
"C'mon Flounder. Please at least try."
"I'm not the Flounder anymore! He is." She immediately regretted her lashing out. "I'm sorry..." Harriet placed her hands on Rachel's shoulders.
"We're all stressed here, Fl- Rachel. I need you to try, at least. For all of us." Rachel looked at the boy. He seemed so innocent to all this torture the Creators are putting him through. Nodding at her leader, she paced over to the bed and sat on the edge and leaned close to him.
"Hey," she whispered. "It's me. It's Rachel. I don't know if you remember me, I don't remember you either. But, you gotta try and wake up for me, okay?"
Rachel.
She fell off the bed, casting her eyes to Harriet.
"What?" Harriet's eyes were full of concern.
"You said my name..." but, it wasn't a feminine voice. Shooting up to her feet, she stared at the boy.
"Rachel, what?" Rachel shushed her. Harriet was taken aback.
Rachel, I know you haven't mastered this since you've entered this place. You've got to listen to me.
She must've looked like she was going crazy by the two other faces in the room.
"C-can I have time alone with him? Please?" Harriet nodded and motioned to Grace. After they left, she redirected her attention back to him.
"I-I'm listening."
The Maze is a code.
"H-how do you know my name?"
My memory is a lot different from yours. I... remember you but nothing much else. It's all fading... I'm waking up. I'll forget everything else. But, please, believe me.
She chuckled. "Somehow I gotta."
