Chapter 2

"Hey! Flounder! C'mere, have something to show you." Harriet said. Earlier when those sirens blared, Harriet didn't look frightened or anxious, but... confused. She then proceeded to explain to Rachel that it was the Flounder alarm-a new comer-and that they only got one a month, and supplies once a week. Rachel slowly walked over to her, Sonya was there as well, and there was a body laying before them.

"A boy?" Rachel gasped.

"Yea. A boy." Harriet remarked, sarcastically. "Take a close look there, Flounder. Does he look familiar?"

Rachel squatted down and peered at the boy. He had olive skin and dark hair. Obviously, he was unconscious. There was something sticking out of his pocket... She took it, opened it. Her eyes were wide. What's this suppose to mean? she thought.

"What is it, Flounder?" asked Sonya. She scooted over to Rachel and read the small paper.

"Harriet," Sonya grabbed the paper and showed it to her leader. Harriet accepted it, observed it, glanced at the crowd then back down again.

This is the last one. Ever.

She read it to the crowd. Murmurs and whispered floated around the fifty-so-so girls.

"What does that mean?" Rachel asked.

"What do you think it means, Flounder?" Harriet scolded. She stood, facing the crowd. "Now is not a time to panic! Let's get him to the Medicals and wait for him to wake up. Get back to your jobs! We'll get this sorted out soon."

"Look! He moved!" A smaller girl called out, almost shrieking. Rachel quickly eyed the boy. He suddenly shot up.

"Everything's going to change!" he then collapsed back into his deep sleep. More gasps.

"Addy! Grace! Get over hear and take him to Medical House! Now!" Harriet ordered. Two girls with knitted bags came forward. One had pitch black hair wrapped in a thick bun. She had on a blue shirt and jeans. The other was blonde with a loose pony and had a t-shirt and shorts. The girl with the brown bun picked him up on her back and carried him to the Medical House.

"You can come by later after he's awake to help us, okay?" Sonya offered. Rachel just nodded, a blank expression on her face as she watch the tall Medical carry the boy on her back. Harriet and Sonya went along with them. After they entered the House, Beth came beside her.

"I'm keeping my eye on you, Flounder." Beth glared.

"Jokes on you Beth. I'm not the Flounder anymore." With that, Rachel just walked away to a picnic table outside the Lunch-where they have their meals. She went deep into thought. Who was that guy? A prick of familiarity came into her mind, but only a little. As if she was made to say she knew him and her mind didn't want to retaliate so it pretended that she knew him. But, the longer she thought about it, the more he became familiar. But how? she thought. I never knew him. She groaned and covered her eyes with her hands, frustrated. Little did she know, things were about to get more complicated.
