CHAPTER 26
~A crime can’t be covered up with another crime~
*NAMJOON*
“I…I don’t know what you are talking about.” The woman said nervously, avoiding eye contact with Namjoon.
Namjoon smiled, folding his arms over his chest. “Are you sure?” He raised a questioning brow at her.
“Listen, you can’t go about suspecting people without evidence, okay?” She said, becoming bold once again.
“You are right, Mrs.” Namjoon sighed, taking a step away from them. He pulled out the deceased phone and handed it over to the woman. “Your husband died 1:10… how come was this note written around 1:15, Mrs Soora?”
She opened her mouth to talk but no words left her lips. She was rendered speechless. Jen decided to speak now. “That doesn’t prove anything.”
“True.” Namjoon smirked. “But how about this?” He took out a camera and handed it over to Jen, Mrs Kim snatched it from her daughter’s grip and played the video in it, with shaky hands.
It was a video of what actually happened that day.
~FLASHBACK~
*AUTHOR’S POV*
Mr Kim walked into his office, holding a brand new camera _he had just got the camera as a present for his only daughter _ She has always wanted it.
He smiled as he took out the camera from the bag and out of the pack as well.
He knew the best thing for him to do was to keep the camera and wait for his precious child to get it open by herself but his curiosity got the better side of his _he wanted to try the camera himself before giving it to his daughter _
He did the necessary setting that was needed to start up the camera. He successfully did everything and then tune the camera into recording mode.
He was about to turn it off when his door was roughly pushed open and his daughter stepped in, looking so annoyed.
“Jen, are you okay?”
“Well, I would be if a certain person didn’t threaten my boyfriend!” Jen said angrily.
Mr Kim dropped the camera on the table behind a huge book _he had forgotten to take it out from the recording mode_
“What are you saying?”
“Stop acting clueless, dad. Lang told me.” She glared.
“Lang?” Mr Kim repeated the name to see whether or not he knows who exactly she was talking about. Well, turns out he does. “He reported me to you?”
“What else would he have done? You insulted him publicly and simply because you were my father he decided to let you go. Why did you have to do that?”
“That guy must be crazy.” He scoffed. “Listen, Jen, that guy is bad news. And besides he is way older than you are. Why will you be together with a guy like him?”
“It’s my life, dad. Who I date is none of your business!” She spat.
“You are my daughter!”
“Am I?” she questioned, surprising him in the process. “Because if truly I am your daughter then you will be happy to see me happy!”
“What are you trying to say in essence?” He asked.
“The only person who cares for me is mother and not you!” She replied.
“JEN!” He yelled at the top of her voice.
Look at the person he was trying to make up with by giving her a camera as a present and asking for her forgiveness.
Him and Jen weren’t really in the father and daughter relationship. They were always having misunderstanding over one thing or the other. Today was no surprise for him either.
He sighed, running his fingers through his hair. “Simply because I discipline you whenever you do something bad makes me a bad person then I don’t care. As long as I’m leading you to the right path then I’m fine!” He walked closer to her and snatched her phone from her. “You are grounded for talking to me like that and I also want you to stop talking to that Lang of a guy as from now henceforth.”
“Wait. You are kidding right?”
“Trust me, I’m not.” He turned and walked over to the window. The camera was facing directly to the window.
“No, you can’t do this.” She walked over to him. “Dad, you have to give me back my phone.”
“I’m not giving it back, Jen. Now get out of my study room.”
“I won’t leave here until I get back my phone.” She was adamant.
“What did you just say?”
Before he knew it, Jen grabbed the phone but he was quick to hold it back, they both began to wrestle for the phone.
Mr Kim doesn’t want to use his whole strength on his daughter so he was trying to act it cool and solve this issue like a matured father would but Jen wasn’t going to stop until she gets her phone back.
Mr Kim body was pressed against the window railing while Jen’s body were pressed against his.
They kept wrestling for the phone, there was suddenly a cracking noise from behind.
“Jen, stop.” Mr Kim said but Jen wouldn’t listen. Suddenly, Mr Kim lose his balance and fell off the window but he held unto his daughter’s arms.
“Fuck. Dad.” Jen cursed, trying to hold unto her father. “Damn. I’m so sorry, daddy.” She pleaded. She tried bringing him up but she couldn’t, instead she was losing her own balance.
“You are going…to fall.” Mr Kim grunted out.
“I’m sorry, dad. I never meant for any of this to happen.” She cried.
“I’m sorry, sweetie. But trust me, whatever I do for you was for your own good.” He grunted. “I just hope that one day you will realize your mistake.”
~END OF FLASHBACK~
“How…how did you get this video?” Mrs Kim asked in surprise, looking up at Namjoon in teary eyes.
Namjoon shrugged. “Let’s just say i have a very good sight.”
Jen was already crying. “It wasn’t intentional. I never wanted to push him off the window. It was a mistake, you could clearly see that in the video.” She cried.
“It’s so late to admit to your mistake, Jen. You should have confessed the truth from the very beginning.”
“But I didn’t write the letter. I swear.” she cried again.
“I know.” Namjoon sighed. “You didn’t know about your father suffering from depression so you clearly weren’t the one who wrote the note but rather someone else. Someone who knew about his depression.” He turned to stare at Mrs Soora.
“Mother?”
~FLASHBACK~
“I didn’t do it on purpose.” Jen cried. “It was a mistake.”
“Shush, my love.” Her mother consoled, pulling her into a hug and started smoothening her hair, gently.
“They are going to take me to jail, mother. They are_”
“They won’t. I won’t let that happen. Never.”
~END OF FLASHBACK~
“You write the note, didn’t you?” He raised a questioning brow at her.
“I have no choice, okay? I needed to save my daughter! Every mother in my position would do the same!” She said.
“No. Not every mother are like you. You think you’ve just saved your daughter, don’t you? Well, sorry to tell you, you rather make things worse for her.”
“What?”
“If she had admitted the crime and we saw this video then we would have know that it was mistake but denying a crime and forging a suicide note is a bigger crime on its own.” He turned to Jennifer. “You are studying Law you should know all of this.”
“Maybe I do. But chose to be ignorant because I trusted my mother.” She said in a whisper, letting out a depressed sigh.
“Let me go instead of her, detective. Let me pay for the crime. Maybe if I had trained her well, maybe if I had supported her father and disciplined her… maybe none of all this would have happened. Maybe my daughter would have been a better someone. I should be blame for her crime, detective.” Mrs Soora sobbed.
Namjoon shook his head. “You can’t blame yourself over her stupidity.” He said. “You might have misled her but her father was there to lead her to the right path… she had a choice. She chose your path… she chose her destruction.” Namjoon stated.
Jen smiled with a nod of the head. “You are right, detective.” She let out a breath. “I chose this path. Honestly, I’m happy you caught me this way… I wouldn’t have been able to live well knowing fully well I killed my father.” She smiled again. “I should pay for my sins so my father can receive the justice that he deserves.”
“I’m so sorry, baby. I caused all this.”
Jen shook her head. “You just wanted me to be happy and I really appreciate everything you’ve done for me but I’m more grateful to my father.” She turned to Namjoon. “I’ve always been afraid of going to jail but…not anymore.” Just then, some policemen barged into their house. “You’ve called them.” She observed. “Thank you.” She smiled to Namjoon before stretching out her hand to the policemen and they handcuffed her alongside her mother.
“Why am_” Mrs Soora was confuse to why they were taking her as well.
“A crime can’t be covered up with another crime, Mrs Soora.” That was all he said before both mother and daughter was taken away.
Namjoon look down at the camera on the floor _Mrs Soora had dropped it in the floor when the policemen dragged her away_
Namjoon bend over to the camera and picked it up. He stared down at it and smiled.
~FLASHBACK~
No body in their right senses will jump off this window unless…
His gaze slowly darted to Jen whose gaze was on the desk.
…unless they were pushed.
Namjoon knitted his brows at Jen, whose gaze was still on the table with so much concentration. He look down and what she was looking at and sighted a camera.
A camera….
~END OF FLASHBACK~
She knew about the camera but didn’t tell her mother because she knew very well that the camera was the only evidence to find the truth.
She felt guilty.
Namjoon stood up to his feet and walked out of the house.
*Thank you.* She had said before been dragged away.
She wanted to be caught from the very beginning….
****
Namjoon entered his car with a loud sigh. At last he was done with that case, all he have to do now was to go back to Jungkook’s case.
Wow, he’s really a very busy man.
Just as he was about to start the engine, his phone started ringing.
Namjoon stared down at the number, it was an unknown number. He suddenly started smiling.
He answered the call. “I’ve been expecting your call.”
