(Amani) Chapter 1
If I have to lift one more heavy ass box I'm going to keel over and die. I wish I could just leave them here outside, but it's looking more and more out of the question as I look up at the rain filled clouds daring me to. I sucked it up as I moved the last of the boxes inside; the delivery woman obviously wasn't much help as she drove away after unloading the boxes in my front yard.
I finally get the rest of the boxes inside just in time as it starts raining lightly. I take a break on my already installed cream colored U shaped sofa; opening my phone to call my best friend, Autumn. She picks up on the second ring with a cheerful tone and asks, "What's up girly, how is moving into your new place going?"
"It would've gone better if the delivery lady had actually helped me, I'm pretty sure I threw my back out trying to lift those heavy ass boxes." I groan dramatically. "Girl boo, you're too young to even be thinking such things Mani." She says addressing me by my nickname which is short for Amani. "Whatever, I'm just glad that we don't have to drive hours to see each other and I can be closer to you." I say smiling.
"Me too! What are you doing Saturday?" She asks expectantly. I ponder for a moment if I have anything going on which I don't, so I say, "Probably going to die of boredom if you don't ask me to hang out already." I say, causing both of us to laugh. She only asks me questions like that when she wants to hang out.
"Okay, okay, let's go for drinks Saturday, I'll meet you at the Joe's Bar at 9:00, how does that sound?" She asked, to which I replied, "Sounds good."
We talked for about an hour on the phone about absolutely nothing but everything at the same time before hanging up. Whenever I talk to my best friend I always end up in a better mood unlike when I talk to other people because it tends to have the opposite effect. I got off the sofa to start unpacking the boxes and putting things away starting upstairs. I hear the pitter patter of the rain as I'm putting away my things when all of a sudden I heard something clank. Part of me wants to ignore it, but another part of me (the logical one) knows that I need to check it out just in case it was some psycho with the intent to kill me or something because what the fuck. There's two things that I absolutely hate, the first one being bugs, no explanation needed; and the second is creepy shit because I have zero tolerance for it.
I sighed and stopped what I was doing and went downstairs only to see nothing amiss as if I had just imagined the sound. I turned back and proceeded with what I was doing, forgetting about it completely. It was bad enough that I was living alone, but even worse was that it was in the woods, so for me to start hearing shit was just icing on the cake I guess. I'm the type of person that can't even watch a scary movie by myself; so living in the woods, 'by myself' might I add, was definitely me trying to prove myself wrong as I tend to do on occasion when my bravery is being tested, like now for example.
I finished unpacking and fixing myself some coffee in order to get a little energy in me to finish writing the last chapter of my manuscript so I could send it to my editor. My house had a beautiful view of the eerie yet mysterious woods from the kitchen all the way to the back door, due to the glass windows reaching the ceiling creating its own transparent wall.
The cabinets were also made of glass making what was inside them available for all to see, and the huge island in the middle was made of white marble. I had my appliances like my stove with the microwave above it installed before I arrived; and I made sure of it because I had serious social anxiety and I didn't want to make awkward small talk with the workers that would have to come in and do the installation.
I loved everything about the house because most of it was made of glass which was right up my alley despite my fearful nature. You could see the living room from the kitchen past the island when the sliding doors were open, and I always kept them open due to the view it provided me of the woods. The living room was very spacious and had three wide windows facing the front of the woods.
The U shaped sofa was in the middle facing the fireplace with the mounted TV on the wall above it. It was a comfortable setup especially with the large staircase leading up to the second floor where the two bedrooms and bathroom were.
The second floor had the guest bedroom behind the first door on the right; It had a queen size bed in the middle with a slightly large window, and a medium size closet on the left. The next room was the main bedroom having a large window taking up the whole back wall giving a magnificent view of the woods.
This was my bedroom of course with my bed facing the side onlooking into the woods, and the closet was huge; perfect for all my clothes, shoes, jewelry and bags. Next was the bathroom right down the hall from my bedroom, and it was huge as well.
It had a shower being the first thing you saw when you walked in causing the floors to go inward with the drain being on the floor, it had a decent size tub with a window facing the front of it again giving a perfect view of the woods, the toilet was in the corner away from the shower and tub, and the sink was about three feet in front of it with a mirror reaching across the wall stopping at the very end of the room.
I was in love with the architecture of everything. One thing is for sure, whoever designed this house liked looking at the woods. In fact it almost reminded me of Edward's family house in the movie Twilight with all the breathtaking views.
What's even better was that the woods had a pathway, meaning I could go jogging if I wanted to, which I think I will because I wanted to keep my body in shape. I had big perky boobs with a tiny rib cage causing me to receive my hourglass figure (Thank you mom for a small ribcage), a flat stomach with semi-wide hips, a perky big butt and thick thighs. The only thing I didn't really like about myself was my height because I could've been a model or something if I had the height, but my 5 '3 self could only dream.
I went into the living room with my freshly brewed coffee filling up the entire house with its aroma as I plopped down on the sofa. I turned the TV on and went to You tube and put on some calming piano music while I typed away at my keyboard. I always put piano music on while I write because it helps me focus and Beethoven was my favorite to listen to. I was typing on my computer when I noticed in my peripheral vision that a shadow had passed by from outside with record speed too, causing my head to shoot up wondering what the hell it was.
I opened another tab on my computer and went directly to google because I will not be playing those types of games today.... Or ever for that matter. I searched up the woods my house was located in and what types of animals were located in it. A few reviews about how the deer were huge and not shy at all and come to think of or there were alot of beware of deer signs as I was driving here so maybe that's it. But, what caught my attention was that I saw multiple people that were hikers say that there were huge wolves and not average size wolves either but wolves as big as cars with jaws that had huge teeth. But no one ever said that they attacked them in fact one entry said:
"I've never seen any creature like it. I was in the woods and I was running a little off the trail and I saw it walking out of some dense trees about 20 feet in front of me and when its paw stepped out It was so huge that it had to be the size of a elephants or even bigger it had to be at least 10 feet tall and its head was so menacing like it was indescribably big and the only thing I could compare it to is a dinosaur and it just looked at me and kept walking like I was an insect or something. When I got home I looked up the largest wolf and what came up was a dire wolf but they were extinct and I know for a fact that thing wasn't a dire wolf it might've been some kind of undiscovered wolf. I don't know man, I'm still shaken up and you can believe it or not, but I'm never going back to those woods."
Not going to lie, that did kind of seem a little far-fetched I thought as I laughed out loud at it not taking it seriously, but that DOES NOT mean that I'm not going out there without some kind of protection on me. That claim may have been a little over exaggerated and I'm not really afraid of animals plus I read that wolves don't really attack humans, so I should be fine. I looked at the time on my computer and it was around 4:46; perfect time for a nap, I thought as I closed my computer down and sat it by my coffee. I closed my eyes to the soft piano music and turned the fireplace on .
