Wounded Warrior
When the skies curl and turn over in the Heavens above,
I'll stand with my arms out,
Spread wide open and free
Let the storm fall over my head,
Soaking me down to the core
Sink to my knees,
Watch the puddles rise in the gravel beneath me.
The quiet plip plip plip of raindrops,
The roar of the thunder drowning them out.
Until the air is so soaked in pain,
I can't breathe without drowning.
And then hold on.
Watch the blood run from my fingers,
Watch the tears mingle with the water around me
The trouble with falling is that someone always forgets to catch you.
Soon the storm will dissolve,
And the birds circling above with fly away
Soon the thunder will be silenced,
Until I can hear my own breathing.
Soon the Sun will shine again,
And life will pass in the span of an exhale.
And I'll be left alone in an empty parking lot,
Digging the pebbles out of their crevices,
Kicking them down the street.
Alone from the beginning,
And alone still, when it all ends.
Designed to take in the wonders of the world,
And never tell a soul.
~October.
