Blaze

Blaze1 [blāz/]

noun

1. The fall that comes with climbing too high. Your mother always told you not to fly too close to the sun. And now you'll fall as Icarus fell, and all those before him. In a burning ball of failed glory, head over heels in your own ambitions.

2. The burning pain that floods your veins when you hit the ocean. Water has put out many a fire before and if you're not careful, you'll become another statistic. So you learn to breathe and boil the water away from your body. To hell with this.

3. Now you understand why Icarus laughed as he fell* . His cold laugh a final revolt against the dead walls built by the people below. And maybe the only way out was burning alive.

4. So you learn to rise up past the flames engulfing your world, swearing to avenge the death of your brother before you. Flying too close to the sun may burn your wings, but flying too low will drown you. So rise.

I love love LOVE the story of Icarus. That line in part 3 with the asterisk is because those aren't my words. It's an allusion to a different poem.

I can't seem to find an author, but here's a link to the poem, in case you want to read it. https://www.quotev.com/story/8724133/DEFINITIONS/9

It's a tumblr poem, I think.
