Chapter 5
In the following months he had given her more room to roam. Her stomach was extended as far as possible and she just knew the baby would arrive any day now. She had only gained a few pounds, no more than twenty and that was just pure baby. Luckily the morning sickness was in the first trimester. But in these last few weeks her ankles started to swell up and the clamp on her ankle dug deeper into her.
"Keith, can you please just take the chain off. My ankles are killing me." She had noticed his grimace but before he could say anything she said, "Look at me Keith, it's not like I can go anywhere and if so it won't be far." She rubbed her belly.
"Yeah, I guess your right, hell you been her for almost a year and besides I can't let my son see his momma all chained up." He rose from the kitchen table, dug into his pocket, pulled out a key. He proceeded to walk over to her, kneeling down to undo the lock just as his cell went off.
"Yello," he answered in a hillbilly tone. "Uh-yea. Sure I'll be there in a few." He shut the phone and slid it back into the holder. "I gotta go but I should be back in a few hours." He rubbed her oversized belly. "Now don't you go to far you here."
She watched as he walked up the hill. She was surprised that he did not take the truck, but then thought that this would be a great time to escape. She waddled to the driver side and climbed in. She reached to turn the key but she should have known better that they would not be there. They were not above the sunvisor, or in the floorboard. Needless to say they were not anywhere in the freak'n truck. When she pulled on the glove compartment papers fell out, scattering out every where. One piece caught her eye. The article was torn and yellow stained with age. The headline read:
Young Girl Still Missing after Four Months of Searching: The young
intelligent Tennessee girl known as Addison Wittman, 26 years old was
noticed missing by her loving parents Daniel and Mary Wittman in August,
when she didn't call home. They claim Addison, a psychiatrist in Atlanta,
called at least once a week. They had received a phone call from her estranged boyfriend, who is also missing and may know her whereabouts.
Her office has also been concerned saying this was just not like her to get
up and leave without any notice. The boyfriend had told them that she had
became ill and would be out for a week, needless to say she never returned.
The Wittman's are offering an award to any information about their beloved daughter. "It's not about the money, it's about my daughters life," mourned the father. Please contact your local police if you or anyone you know has seen her or her estranged boyfriend."
To the left of the article was a picture of the two them, happy at a Christmas gathering at her parent's house. She had looked so young then even though it was just this past Christmas. They had looked like a wonderful couple that would have lived together forever. She folded the paper and then gathered all the rest of the papers and pushed them all back into the compartment.
"I knew they would be looking for me."
Without the keys she was stuck at the cabin; she knew she would not be able to go on foot. She looked around and then back to the haunting woods behind the cabin. As she eased her way out of the truck she wondered what direction did he go and what was so important over the hill of the mountain. She waddled to the edge of the woods, looking in to find a trail that curved up the hill. She followed the path into the darkness huffing and puffing. She heard a commotion, but could not place the chattering chants. Flames flew high in the night sky. As she reached closer to the fire, she saw monsters dancing around the flames. The men like creatures wore mask made from real decapitated animals. They were naked, chanting an evil spell. At first she thought they were into witchcraft of some kind and then remembered the cult. This was his new family. She watched as he danced among them. His slender body, muscles tense, shimmered of sweat. She heard his voice from among them. They danced in a circle and as she looked closer into the flames she saw something, someone trying to move. The young girl squirmed and she was yelling for help. Addie stared at the girl, who was probably only in her late teens maybe early twenties. Her skin glowed by the fire that surrounded her. Black drizzled from her eyes from her mascara and thick eyeliner. Her cries pierced the still night. Addie covered her ears, but focused with her eyes wide open to see the men prance around her, taking turns on top of her. Her wrist were tied together above her head with a rope, her legs stretched far as possible and were also secured down.
The man, the mountain goat climbed on top of her. This she knew was Keith; she had seen the head before as he carried it to the shed. She watched as he made out with her. Forcing himself into her, letting her beg for him to stop. She watched as he pulled the knife out. How it glimmered in the fire. She gasped and turned to hurry back the way she came. Stumbled to the ground, she fell onto her stomach. She managed to get up but due to rushing she scratched her legs on some of the sticker bushes, dirt dug into her toes. When she reached the porch a sharp pain shot in her lower abdomen. She tensed up.
The pain was more frequent along with the heavy breathing, but she managed to change the ragged clothes and washed the dirt from her feet and legs. She didn't know how she would explain the scratches but that was the last thing on her mind.
Keith was on his way back to the cabin when he heard her scream. He suddenly panicked and ran the rest of the way, slamming through the door.
"Addison where are you?" he yelled in the dark room.
"Ahhh!" she screamed from the bathroom.
He opened the door; blood everywhere on the floor leading to the tub where she laid. She had filled the tub a quarter of the way and the water was pure blood. She remembered seeing women giving birth in a tub on one of those reality shows over a year ago. She was out of breath and ready to give up on pushing.
He yelled at her, "You have to push Addie, push."
With the last dying squeal she pushed as hard as she could and out came the baby. Keith reached in and pulled it out, wrapping it in a towel. "A son, you gave me a son."
Addie fell back against the tub and cried. It wasn't that she was sad or happy for that matter. Actually it was because she was now a mother and in reality she just did not want to be a mother, not this way. She wanted to be with her parents, she wanted to be in a hospital and she really wanted something to make the discomfort to go away.
"Do you like Seth?" he asked her.
She wiped her face, and managed to murmur, "Seth."
*****
Seth was a good baby, thankfully he stayed asleep all night and he hardly every cried. He gave her plenty of company and now she had someone to talk to even though he did not talk back he still babbled to her. He enjoyed the radio just as much as she did, cooing and wiggling to the music. Keith was still never around which actually was fine with her. She had talked him into buying the baby some clothes but he refused to buy diapers because to him that was just a waste of money. Therefore she had even more work to do.
Within in the following year Seth started to crawl, climb and was just now starting to take a few steps all on his own. He loved playing outside and getting dirt between his fingers and toes. Even in the rain he loved it, loved the way it splashed on him. Sometimes when it rained it made it a little easier for her because she could wash him off outside.
Right before his first birthday she found out that she was pregnant again. She became sick every morning and felt that same nauseated feeling throughout the day. But she still made sure Seth was taken care of and cleaned the house and cooked. She had finally told Keith and he was exited of being a dad again.
In the spring of April, Addie took Seth out to the garden with her. She planted more seeds while he watched and played in the dirt.
"ook, it iggles momma." Holding up a worm laughing.
"Yes, it wiggles," she laughed back.
She enjoyed watching him so much that she knew she couldn't live without him. When he was born he had looked so much like Keith but within the year his hair had turned darker. When he laughed she could see his father in him but Seth had two little dimples in both corners of his mouth. He acted more like her, probably because he was just with her more. She prayed that he would be more like her.
She didn't follow Keith again. Although she always wondered where did they find that young girl. And were her parents searching for her as well. She thought about others too; how many women had they done this too? She knew if she didn't keep everything in order at the cabin and if she didn't watch her mouth he could take her there and they will do the same to her. So she stayed at home and took care of everything and hardly ever complained.
When November rolled around the baby came earlier than expected. She had a beautiful baby girl, although Keith was very disappointed because he wanted another son.
Angrily he left the room fussing, "I hoped for another son." He slammed the door behind him. Still cursing. Addie ignored him and held her close to her breast. He reentered the room a few second later. "A girl, of all things a girl." Still stunned, "You name her then," and then he turned and went back out to the shed.
Addie was fine with that even though she could not believe that he was behaving like a spoiled rotten brat. What did he expect, you either have a boy or a girl and that's fifty fifty it's not like you have any say so in the matter. She tried to think of a name a name that would mean something to her and decided to name her Shana Isabella. Shana after her sister and Isabella from her grandmother. Her sister would be pleased to know she had a niece named after her. How she thought of her constantly, wondering what she was doing and if she was married now with children. They were more like best friends than sisters and she had missed her terribly.
When she announced the name to Keith and Seth. Keith just shrugged his shoulder. "Whatever." Little Seth laughed and tried to say Isabella, "Bella, baby Bella." He reached to touch her tiny foot. She was so little, hardly weighing five pounds. Her hair was curled of golden auburn locks.
Bella had cried more and sometimes so much that Addie had to just walk away and go outside. But when Keith was home she tried harder to keep her quiet because he would became irate.
After Bella was born Keith became more quiet and stopped arguing with her. For one he was never home and when he was he was out in the shed getting wasted. He usually came in for supper and then when the kids were all ready asleep. Addie didn't mind because the more he was out the better things were for her and the children.
