Chapter 15
Austin was holding on to the ropes of the swing. His fingers had turned white around each knuckle. His body trembled as tears fled from his face. Hannah and Gabby had both been crying as well. Hannah was starting to go limp. Little Gabby had already soiled her pants and her head hung low of exhaustion.
Derrick ran over to them. "Sorry, I got her as soon as possible."
"Don't come any closer." Austin yelled. "If we move we will all blow up."
His eyes searched for the bomb. It was attached to Austin and the rest was attached to the girls. He just shook his head in disgust. "I will get you guys out of this." He was mad and he thought as soon as he got them out of harms way, the first thing he was going to do was find this mad man. Who would do such a thing and to their own children at that.
The bomb squad was already working on what to do. They got out extra gear to put over the girls so if it did happen to go off hopefully they would be safe. If felt like it took forever but they had the bomb off in a matter of minutes. One of the guys carefully took the bomb and placed it in a container. They continued to set them free, cutting into the ropes. Gabby fell into Derrick's arms, lethargically. Austin and Hannah sat on the ground at first, waiting to get the feeling back in their legs. Derrick fell to the ground with them still holding on to Gabby.
All three of them hugged Derrick and refused to let go. "Where is your momma?"
"He took her." Gabby cried.
"When?"
"Right before the sun came up." Hannah added.
He looked over at Tracey, "That's been a good thirty minutes now."
"Did you get a look at the car?"
Austin stated, "Yeah, it's a dark color, two-door, Grand AM."
"Good boy!" He patted him on the back.
"I gotta go." He could not help but noticed the disappointment in their faces. "Look, everything is going to be all right I promise. I all ready called for someone to come and get you.
"Who?"
"Your grandparents." He looked up to their grandfather.
"Papa" they yelled.
"Sweet Jesus, are ya'll all right?" He kneeled down to pick up Gabby. There was an older woman looking at them. She froze in her tracks. "Dear Lord, it is all true. These are Addison's children." She could not believe how they looked so much like their momma.
Their papa looked at her. "I'm sorry Mary, I made a promise to her two years ago and to keep her safe I had to keep it all a secret."
"And did you keep her safe?" she scolded.
He knew where the conversation was leading. Him not being the perfect father, the protector. Once he let her out of her sight she was gone and now that she was alive she was gone again. "Mary, please don't start. Let's get the kids something to eat and a good bath."
Daniel patted Derrick on the back. "Bring back my baby girl."
"I will sir, I will." And he hugged the kids one last time, kissing each on the forehead.
