Chapter 37: In The Todoroki Residence

"Coming!!" responded Fuyumi Todoroki. Her footsteps clanked against the wooden floor of their house.

*Door slides* the door opened before she got there.

"Sh-Sh-Shoto?!" Fuyumi exclaimed, nearly dropping the kitchen knife she brought along in a hurry.

Shoto appeared at their door with Hinata on his back. Scratches and dirt were all over their faces. They're still wet from the rain. The bottom part of Todoroki's shirt was torn, found wrapped on Hinata's wounded knuckles to tend it, but it was just enough to keep her bleeding intact for the time being.

"Sis..." Shoto pleaded with his eyes, out of words, breathless, after wrestling with Hinata who refused to go to the hospital, in fear she might get exterminated if she was caught 'rotting'.

Hinata's in bad shape. Her hot breaths swayed the side of Shoto's hair as her head was lying heavy on his shoulder. She's heating up gravely.

"Oi sis...!!" Natsuo Todoroki suddenly yelled from the kitchen. "It's boiling!!!"

Fuyumi jerked, "Ah!- Uhm!"

"Ah!! Sis, A CRAB IS ESCAPING!! WHERE ARE YOU!?!?!?" Natsuo screamed again, hopeless.

"Shoto, first take her to my room! I'll be back real quick!" Fuyumi speed-talked, and shouted as she dashed away back to the kitchen.

"Shoto..." Hinata uttered faintly with her eyes still shut and brows furrowed, shuddering, "I said not to take me to the hospital..." she muttered.

Hinata being conscious earned a relieved smile from Shoto. "Don't worry, we're not in the hospital..." he gently whispered. As so, he wore his indoor slippers.

"Where... are we...?" Hinata asked, huffing.

Shoto paused. A huge shadow then covered them both, making him more unwilling to say the words. "We're home," he said in sarcasm, looking up into his father's eyes.

Hearing 'home' eased Hinata and instantly fell asleep on Shoto's shoulders, worn out as it is.

"You're back." Endeavor, Enji Todoroki, greeted. With a disappointed face. More he was irritated seeing Shoto bring Hinata into the house who was his enemy in the Sports Fest. "Is this why you lost?" Endeavor stated, referring to Shoto's clear feelings over Hinata.

"I won," Shoto bluntly corrected. He did win first place.

"But disgracefully!" Endeavor raised his voice.

"Does it matter?" Shoto retorted. "

Fuyumi came back, reaching their conversation. Stood behind Endeavor, glum, seeing them at war.

Shoto and Endeavor's glare towards each other grew fiercer every second of silence passed.

Suddenly Natsuo crossed for his siblings' sake. "Can you not see she's sick?" Said that to his father with a vicious look

"Natsuo..." Fuyumi reached to him but was ignored.

Having another resentful son in the scene further shrouded the atmosphere cold.

"Take a rest, Shoto..." Natsuo calmly said, insisting to carry Hinata instead since Shoto seemed exhausted.

"But..." Shoto was unwilling at first to leave Hinata. Worried, he wanted to personally see her get treated, but later Fuyumi also went forward to assist Natsuo.

"Dry yourself up first, Shoto..." Fuyumi said. "Don't worry, I'll tend her wounds," she assured.

Sore all over his body, Shoto let things be and followed his siblings' wish. Hinata was carefully placed on Natsuo's arms.

Each went their way, forgetting their father's presence. Endeavor's eyes darkened, remorseful.

"Is dinner ready?" Endeavor asked before Fuyumi completely left. The two boys were gone.

Fuyumi turned, facing him. "Almost!" She put up a smile to lighten the mood.

"I'll be in my office." Endeavor walked away.

"Uhm... how about, join us... eat...?" Fuyumi awkwardly requested, stopping her father.

Endeavor was silent... then later continued his way without an answer.

[Time Skip]

"Thanks for the meal." Shoto finished his meal, placing down his chopsticks.

"That fast!? Want some more!? There's still plenty!" Fuyumi tried convincing him to stay a little while longer. Stay a bit longer to do some explaining that is.

Shoto stood and bowed at his siblings from one side to the other as Natsuo and Fuyumi sat on different sides of the table. "Thank you also for taking care of Hinata," he thanked. "I'll be going then to deliver Hinata's dinner-"

"Nah, you don't understand... we don't want your 'thank you'!" Natsuo pulled Shoto back in his seat. "Who's she!???" he grinned widely. Teasing, he elbowed his little brother.

"Hinata," Shoto answered monotonically. "Hyuuga."

"Come on Shoto! Say more of the good fun stuff!" Natsuo slurred his tone begging, desperate and excited to know.

"Yes yes yes pleaasseee! Who is she, Shoto?!??" Fuyumi squeaked having butterflies in her stomach while fantasizing about her baby brother's first love life.

Shoto's straight face broke, blushing, as he pondered his descriptions of Hinata. "I-It's late." he shot up on his feet, standing again. "Hinata needs to have her dinner now." he changed the topic and hurriedly prepared Hinata's meal then went away.

Fuyumi and Natsuo were left speechless by his behavior, bursting into chuckles.

***

Headed towards Hinata's quarters, a vacant room where she was placed. Shoto had his hands full, holding a tray of Hinata's food.

Arrived, he knocked first then opened the door, turning on the lights in the room.

"Hinata, here's your dinner..." he said, placing the tray on the desk beside her bed.

Hinata was deep asleep, lying on her side. Her two hands, bandaged, relaxed by her face on her pillow.

Shoto slowly sat on the bed beside her. He hovered himself close and laid his palm on Hinata's forehead. Thankfully there's only a hint of fever left.

He looked at her... appreciating her tranquil state. Remembering how berserk she was during their battle was heartbreaking to witness.

From Hinata's forehead, his hand glided down to her cheeks, feeling them with his knuckles. Mesmerized. The atmosphere was light. All his worries and sad memories that this household made in the past became as if they were nonexistent. Loving this peaceful moment alone with her.

A teardrop touched him.

Shoto snapped back to reality. "Hinata...!" he retracted his hand and wiped it on his shirt.

Hinata woke up with tears streaming from her lavender orbs. Shoto's face creased concerned.

Hinata spaced out with widened eyes as the tears did flow, soaking her pillow. "Home..." she uttered weakly, as it was the last word she heard before passing out in Shoto's arms.

"Wake up... it's past dinner time already," Shoto gently spoke.

His voice pulled Hinata's attention.

"Shoto...?" Hinata's eyes averted. Her tears ceased. She turned her back, her spine sinking on the bed, meeting the beauty of his heterochromia eyes.

"Want me to help you up?" Shoto asked.

Hinata had no answer, buried deep in her depressing thoughts.

Shoto checked the dark sky by the window. "It's getting late. You have to eat to recover, Hinata." He said, staring back at Hinata who was still quiet. She seemed lifeless to even bother to sit up and eat.

"Come, let's eat." Shoto stood and bent down, motioned forward, closer, gradually slipping his forearms through Hinata's sides to lift her back from the bed.

But Hinata suddenly held Shoto's face with both hands.

Shoto stiffened, freezing him mid-air on top of her.

"Is this...a dream...?" Hinata's breath fondled Shoto's lips. "I hope it is..." Hinata sadly said, emersed in the thought of how she's left behind. "It must be... it should be."

Her eyes closed halfway. "Even so... " Cherishing the moment at present, a faint genuine smile formed on her lips, "If this is a dream, I don't want to wake up from it," she whispered, thinking of her new friends and family in this world. Hinata further caressed her fingers through Shoto's face, touching his ears. "I love this dream."

Shoto gulped, wide-eyed, flustered.

"H-Hinata..." Shoto's voice shook. Heart beating hard against his ribs. Tensed, his fingers crumpled the sheets. His mouth is watering, jaw loosening as temptation coaxed. He gulped the second time. The distance between their lips was enough to close the gap.

"Shoto, you forgot to fetch her medicine-"

Shoto met his sister's eyes, awkwardly, speechless. Forgot he left the door open.

A moment of delay.

Hinata's head then turned to where Shoto faced, seeing Fuyumi petrified at the door.

"SH-SH-SHOTOOO!!!" Fuyumi shrieked.

Hinata's senses burst awoken. Quickly looked back at Shoto, realized where her hands were. Abruptly she retracted herself and sat up shocked. Flung Shoto's chin in the process.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!?! TAKING ADVANTAGE WHILE SHE'S STILL SICK AND WEAK!!? IS THAT IT!?!!" Fuyumi bolted and pulled Shoto by the collar after he got pushed away by Hinata.

"Sis it's not what you think," Shoto explained plainly. A sweatdrop on his head.

"THEN WHY WERE YOU ON TOP OF HER!?!?!" Fuyumi shouted.

***

Endeavor suddenly choked on his food. Heard that while at his office desk eating. He immediately drank water. Awkwardly thought, "What were they doing...?" He facepalmed himself over blushing slightly.

***

[Mini Time Skip]

"Pftt Haha!! Calm down, sis! Shoto said it wasn't what you were thinking!" Natsuo came. Lightly smacking Fuyumi's back while laughing nonstop about their misunderstanding. "If I hadn't come who knows what could've happened."

"Chaos," Shoto answered. Got Natsuo to laugh more.

"My bad... for accusing falsely," Fuyumi sheepishly admitted, rubbing the back of her head, facing Hinata.

"Uhm, it's fine..." Hinata uttered.

The two Todorokis abruptly silenced when Hinata spoke.

Hinata's confidence dropped, the same time the red blush on her cheeks leveled up to her brain. "Y-You don't have to stop talking!" she stuttered, hiding her face, her eyes were down playing with her fingers.

Fuyumi smiled softly, in awe, "You've got such a lovely voice..." she complimented. Hinata shrunk bashful to the extreme and squeaked out a tiny thank you for the praise. Made Fuyumi giggle admiring Hinata's cute timid gestures.

"Ahh" Natsuo's irises slid to Shoto. "Is that why you fell for her Sho-?" instantly shut his mouth when a chilly death stare pierced him. "Ehr, never mind." he averted his eyes from Shoto.

"Thank you... for treating me." Hinata said.

"No worries!" Fuyumi waved her hands, "How thoughtful of her... she's so gentle and kind..." she smiles in a fluffy flowery atmosphere, fantasizing again about Shoto's future if it'd be with Hinata.

The next thing happened, Natsuo seemed to share the same image as his sister... both floating to an imaginary land.

Shoto reddened a bit, embarrassed. "O-Okay... that's enough." he dragged the two out of the room. "Thanks for the medicine." he last said before sliding the door closed at their faces.

"Aww...." The two older siblings melted sadly. Soon after, the noises of their footsteps muffled, walking away.

Shoto assured if their shadows were gone. He sighed deeply, positive they were absent. He looked back and met Hinata's eyes.

Both flustered. They slightly faced elsewhere.

Shoto's eyes passed by the food on the tray he brought. "Oh- right, Hinata, you're dinner-"

"Shoto..." Hinata cut his sentence.

Shoto silenced. Faced her, seeing her serious look covered by her silky midnight hair.

"Thanks... for believing me." Hinata said, "Thanks, for not bringing me to the hospital."

Her words flashed Shoto a memory.

FLASHBACK:

"Hinata you're injured and heating up! You need to go to the hospital!" Shoto argued.

The rain stopped then. His ice that sheltered them had melted. Hinata was heaving feverish but refused Shoto's decision.

"Hinata, please!" Shoto and Hinata tussled against each other. Hinata was persistent, though her unwell condition.

"You don't understand! They'll kill me Shoto!" The secret slipped. In despair, she lost the strength to care anymore. It drove her to explain everything, the truth, and the misery of her situation.

END OF FLASHBACK:

"Thank you so much..." Hinata crumpled the blanket on her lap, hands shaking, her face creasing. "And sorry... for burdening you."

"Anywhere I go..." Her thoughts pierced herself. "Be it in my world or here... I'm always a heavy load..." she bit her shuddering lips. "I-I'm..." her voice shook. "I'm really s- humph!?"

Hinata abruptly chinned up, meeting Shoto's face in front of her.

His hand shoved a spoon into her mouth.

"You're not a burden and you've never been a bother to me," Shoto stated firmly. "Forget everything for the time being. For now, just eat and focus on recovering." he takes out the spoon and scoops some more food from the bowl of soup.

"Sh-Shoto..." Hinata muttered while her mouth was full. She became tearful again, touched. She rubs her eyes. "Why...? You're making it harder for me to let go... you're so kind..."

Shoto faintly smiled and ruffled her hair. "There's still tomorrow, don't give up hope, Hinata, you'll find your way back home," he said in all sincerity of care, yet deep down, he was terrified to have figured out that Hinata would soon be gone.

THE NEXT DAY

Fuyumi woke up early before the sun rose. She has to get ready for work and make breakfast.

...

Wrapping a towel around her wet hair, done showering, Fuyumi heads out to their kitchen. Wears an apron and starts cooking.

Humming while cracking eggs against a bowl, abruptly she stopped, realizing she was preparing a meal for only four people. "Right, Hinata..." She remembered.

A grin came to her lips.

She leaves the kitchen for a moment.

Doing a tip-toe the closer she got to Hinata's room. Takes hold of the door and slowly slides it open.

Her heart melted.

Witnessed a lovely sight as Shoto sat by Hinata's bed, both sound asleep. His head rested on Hinata's palm.

Quietly she steps inside, walks to the desk beside them, and took the empty dishes that were used for Hinata's dinner.

Fumuyi takes a last glimpse at the two up close. It's heartwarming.

"They're so cute together..." Fuyumi smiled with her eyes closed and had her head tilted while feeling butterflies for them.

*Ding Donggg!!!!*

Fuyumi squeaked shocked.

The sudden noise made Hinata flinch from her sleep. Her movement slightly woke Shoto.

"EEEKKK!!" Fuyumi shrieked internally and dashed out of the room.

*Ding Donggg!!!!*

"Coming. coming!" Fuyumi lowly shouted. Ran to the gate. "Who'd be this early to be here making noise!?" She wondered.

She finally got to the entrance.

"Yes?" She heaved then instantly lost the tired face, surprised.

"ACHOO!! I'm sorry," excused the visitor.

"M-Midnight! right!?" Fuyumi clarified. Was answered with a nod.

Fuyumi poised herself presentable. "Please, come in. You look..."

Midnight's costume was all ragged and her body dead exhausted, and her dark baggy eyes were the worst. She was up all night, helping the search for Hinata that they kept secret to not cause media problems.

"No no, it's fine. I mean, I can't enter your mansion like this..." Midnight sneezed again.

"But aren't you here to discuss something with father?... seeing you've come all the way here so early like this." Fuyumi insists to cater her inside.

"No, not about your father... by any chance, is Hinata Hyuuga here?" Midnight bluntly spoke. "Sorry I'm in a hurry right now and I can't let the media-" She stopped, seeing Fuyumi's reaction.

"Is there something wrong Ms. Todoroki?" Midnight asked.

Fuyumi blushed, recalling how sweet Hinata and Shoto were sleeping together.

"Yes, she's here." Suddenly answered by another person, walking closer behind Fuyumi. "Welcome." He said for formalities sake.

"Good morning, Endeavor." Midnight smiled, popping up a "hi" hand, head high up to meet his height. "ACHO!"

"Is there something wrong, Midnight? I'll ask you that." Endeavor retorted, suspecting something's fishy with Hinata. Worried his name might get tainted with her in the house.

"Oh, nothing much. Just that someone misses Hinata so bad and is worried." Midnight answered, referring to Aizawa.

"Shouldn't the child's parents be here instead? Unless they don't care much, and what kind of daughter is she? Leaving without a word to be here seducing my son!" Endeavor insulted.

"Father-.." Fuyumi reacted.

"Look, I'm her parent!" Midnight shouted. "She is loved and pampered by me! Don't picture her like some runaway slut!" the words slipped as she got carried away by Endeavor's audacity. It is true though.

That had Fuyumi gawk for a sec. Endeavor's brows furrowed.

"Achoo! Not buying it?" Midnight crossed arms. "Can't you see the resemblance?" she flips her midnight silky hair that's identical to Hinata. "Just gelled my hair to make it spiky, you know!"

"Who's the father then? Where she got her eyes?" Endeavor was actually convinced. It shocked Midnight.

"H-Hey! Don't lead it to that! That's personal now!" Midnight flustered. Now feels the embarrassment of the lie she created on impulse. "Crap! Didn't expect him to believe me so easily." She internally facepalmed.

"Anyways, I wouldn't have come all the way here like this if she wasn't precious to me." She pouted while talking, looking at the side, regaining her composure. "D-Don't you dare spread an issue about this!" She faces back, and pointed at him and Fuyumi, blushing a bit, "And don't! Don't tell this to Hinata!" She warned.

Midnight's last phrase made the two Todorokis grasp that "Oh, so she's illegitimate."

"Get that girl, Fuyumi." Endeavor instructed. "I don't want to be entangled with this nonsense." He glared at Midnight.

Just as Fuyumi turned around to follow her father's order, Hinata appeared at her front.

"H-Hinata!" Fuyumi stuttered. "H-How long were you here-!? I mean how was your sleep? Uhm, Shoto?" She innocently tries to cover up for Midnight.

"He's asleep, I left the bed without waking him up," Hinata replied politely.

"You two slept together!?" Midnight shouted. Endeavor had the same reaction, but chose not to utter it.

Hinata blushed. Felt Endeavor's death stare, and dared not to look at him in the eye. "Uh-hm i-it's not what you think!" She sprinted past the gate and hid behind Midnight. "Thank you, for letting me stay overnight." she shyly said, popping her head behind Midnight's waist. Her face, still red.

"You're welcome!" Fuyumi smiled.

Endeavor just frowned and slammed the gate shut against them.

...

"Welp whatever," Midnight enthusiastically let Endeavor's attitude slide to not ruin her mood. "Let's go back to UA, Hinata!" she grinned, looking down by her waist as Hinata was still there. "ACHO!" Midnight abruptly faced away, sneezing again.

Hinata's red cheeks faded back to normal. She lets go of Midnight, distancing herself. A serious expression changed her look. "I'm sorry..." she placed her hands together by her knees and bowed, her head halfway to the ground.

Midnight was caught speechless.

Hinata's hair hung down as she stayed low, "I'm sorry, I've been a bother to everyone in UA," she had a depressed tone, a dead look, but had no tears... they've long dried up since last night.

"I made a deal with Aizawa sensei... and Principal Nezu probably knows it, that I'd be 'gone' after the Sports Fest."

Midnight's eyes widened.

Hinata paused, painfully remembering the fact that she's left behind. She's left as a wanderer again, and she's too ashamed to go back to UA after she bluntly said hurtful words to cut ties with Aizawa.

"I didn't have the courage to say to all of you that I'd be leaving," Hinata continued, "so I wrote letters and asked Aizawa sensei to deliver it to each of you when I'm gone. But since now you're personally here..." She gulped, her eyes darkened, "Thank you for the good memories..."

"This is goodbye..."

"Goodbye, Kayama sensei..."

...

The sunrise softly painted the early sky, blended with clouds' beauty. The place was calm, creatures started chirping melodies... yet the scene was heavy on Midnight's heart.

***

Around the same time, at the front of UA's huge entrance. The school was desolate for it was under a short-term break after the Sports Fest.

A pink-haired girl approached the building, wearing a dark turtleneck tank top paired with tight jeans. The teen girl walked having a questioned look, wondering if she arrived at the right place.

"Looks like Sakura's our winner to first arrive here," uttered someone, unraveling himself from the trees nearby.

Sakura Haruno, turned to the voice, "Shikamaru...?" she saw.
