chapter fifteen.
I hate you, I love you
CATALINA STARED DEEPLY AT THE FIRE BEFORE her as Kai silently watched. It was odd for the two of them to not speak because honestly, they did it a lot but, the Santos girl feared that if she did, her and Kai would seem too familiar. That was the last thing that they needed.
"This is getting boring Kitty Cat." The Parker man smirked. "Can I talk now? Or will your boyfriend get angry?"
"Do you ever get less obnoxious?" The Santos woman rolled her eyes.
"Me?" Kai gasped dramatically. "Never."
Catalina glanced around the room and then used her vampire hearing in order to listen around the house. Fortunately, both Damon and Bonnie were snoring and fast asleep. Her straight face quickly turned into a smile too as she glanced at the brunette man before her.
"We actually did it, we are going to get out of here." The Santos girl basically had to contain a squeal as she put her hands up happily. "Then I can help you kill that bitch of a family of yours and then.."
After that, Cat had absolutely no plans after her promise to Kai. Her life was never meaningful or happy, there was nothing for her to go back to. Well, nothing but a job that never made her happy, no friends, and endless temptation to feed on someone.
"Then what?" The Parker boy was curious as to what she'd do when they weren't forced together, he didn't exactly want her to stay with him but didn't want her to leave either.
"I uh, I don't know." Catalina cleared her throat. "Be quiet, I think Damon is waking up."
That was a complete lie but suddenly, the Santos girl didn't want to speak anymore. She realized that she had an eternity of nothing ahead of her...
and that was not a good thing.
IN USUAL KAI FASHION HE WAS TALKING everyones ear off like crazy. None of his thoughts were really that coherent, and he jumped from topic to topic freely. If Cat didn't feel the way she did about him, she knew this would be driving her absolutely insane.
"I broke into the oval office and took a picture of myself at the window, looking all JFK. But then I was like wait how am I gonna get these photos developed—" Kai was immediately cut off my Damon, as Cat started to think how hot he would look in a suit.
"Oh my god, just answer the damn question. How are we going to get out of the twilight zone?" The Salvatore man asked impatiently from the couch.
"Boys are so annoying." Catalina began to drown out the conversation, twirling her daylight ring around her finger.
Bonnie came in shortly after, holding the items that Kai had previously asked for.
"I found everything you asked for, a can opener, shower drain, grinding wheel, jam, pocket knife, volume O of the encyclopedia, a nail, and a black marker." The Bennett witch dumped it all on the table. "Now what?"
"I'm guessing now he says something incredibly annoying." Cat commented with the roll of her eyes.
"Can't show you with my hands tied." Kai replied, his signature grin on his face.
"...and there it is." Catalina sighed, leaning against the wall as Bonnie approached the siphon with a pocket knife.
"Bonnie—"
"Thank you." The Parker man smiled as the Bennett girl cut the ropes from his wrists, the Santos vampire letting out a quiet sigh of relief his wrists didn't get too hurt.
Man she was way too attached to him.
Damon rolled his eyes, clearly annoyed, "Okay, fine. How is this pile of crap going to get us out of here?"
"I'll explain." Kai shrugged, rubbing his wrists as if they were hurting. "As soon as you tell me what you did on May 10th, 1994"
"This should be good." Catalina leaned her head against the wall, trying to stop her mind from thinking about the skin probably peeling off the wrists of the man she cared about so deeply.
"What different does it make!?" Damon questioned.
"We aren't really in the position to be questioning him, D." The Santos girl interjected, making her blue eyed friend sigh.
"Let me put it this way, Bonnie's magic is one part of my equation. My as-yet undisclosed knowledge is the another. Which means you'd be hitching a ride for free. I just want to know if you deserve to come along." Kai said calmly.
"What about Cat? You aren't asking her questions." Damon narrowed his eyes suspiciously, the Santos girl taking in a deep breath.
"Fine, what is the worst thing you've ever done?" Kai asked, a grin on his face. He figured it must've been something bad, or bad according to his family. He never bothered to talk about Cat's life in depth with her, he just knew it wasn't happy, she was an orphan, the things she probably would have share with everyone.
"This isn't about me." Catalina shook her head. "Seriously."
Bonnie frowned slightly, now she was wondering what her friends crime was.
"You tell your secret and i'll tell mine." Damon spoke, folding his arm across his chest.
"I'm waiting." Kai raised a brow, Cat's eyes watering slightly.
She didn't know why, she had always been an emotional girl and as a vampire, it was just much much worse.
"Can you guys give me a second to kick his ass? I don't want you to see me doing bad things." The Santos woman pouted her lips at the two people who had now become her friends.
They both exchanged glances before shrugging and walking out quickly. They wouldn't mind seeing the absolutely obnoxious boy with a few bruises on her.
"Do the magic thingy." Cat mouthed.
"Huh—"
"Hide us." She placed her hands on his arms, the witch taking the power he needed to hide them temporarily, but it was more so they weren't heard.
"You wanted to make out so bad you couldn't wait to—" Kai was immediately met by a slap across the face at which he responded by sending her an angry glare. "You don't want to hit me again, Cat."
"I'm not worried about you hurting me. You've done it before and even without trying you'll probably do it again. So tell me, what the fuck else could you do to me?" Catalina responded, her anger bubbling up. She couldn't believe he was about to make her confess her atrocities right then and there, and it was only because of what Damon suggested.
The Parker boy pulled her face towards him, keeping a tight grip on it, "I could kill you."
"That would be a favor." Cat's expression was extremely serious. "Besides, you wouldn't, even if you don't give a shit about me i'm the only one who listens to you."
The Santos girl felt his hand tremble against her face, she really couldn't tell if he was trying to hurt her or cope with what she just said without responding in a way that would ruin her plans, that was all he cared about anyways.
"That's going to change once we leave, you aren't going to be the only person in the world." Kai said, keeping his eyes focused on her.
"Maybe I don't want to be anymore." Cat responded through her teeth, again, she didn't know why it just happened that way. She always answered without thinking.
"You don't mean that." The Parker boy let go of her face. "I've been the only person you've talked to for months."
"Well maybe, months is enough." Catalina moved her hands away from his arms and immediately felt a wave of magic rub through her.
They were visible, and so was a lot of pointless lies between the two of them.
AUTHORS NOTE —
I'd just like to say I do not support toxic relationships but if we are realistic, this is what would happen with two people with so much unresolved issues/trauma. It's also unrealistic to put Kai in a lovey dovey relationship with the way he is.
How is everyone? How did we feel about this chapter?
Hope you enjoyed!
