8: THE REVELATION

CHAPTER 8: THE REVELATION.

16year old Na'im gobbled up the last piece of chicken sandwich on his plate, washed it down with his all day every day favorite beverage black coffee then muttered an 'Alhamdulillah'

"Ammiey" He called to the pretty young women sitting across from him, on the dining table.

She slowly looked up from the book she was reading, a smile tugging at the corners of her mouth "Yes son?"

"About the newest Jersey and boots" He began in his almost pronounced british accent "You promised to give me your own money to buy them if i come out with 9 A's in my result"

Ammiey squinted an eye at him "This boy wallahi one day you will leave me without two pennies to rub together, pity me mana"

"Toh Ammiey In banci kudin ki ba wane kikaso yaci?"

She glared at him, took a grape from her plate and threw it at him.

"Thank you!" He said rubbing his forehead "Kudi dai sai naci whether you like it or not, wait! What am i even saying? I get whatever i want from you because evidently, I'm someone's fav"

Ammiey rolled her eyes at her son and sighed using her fingertips to flip a page of her book  "You can keep deceiving yourself"

Just then, Ahmad shelleng, Ammiey's husband walked in. She immediately dropped her book and went to hug him.

Na'im scratched the back of his head and muttered "These people..."

"Welcome home Abba, how was work?" He said putting on a wide grin on his face.

"Good good son" Abba grinned back and picked 10years old khadijah before throwing her up in the air and catching her. She giggled excitedly.

They'd a little family time together before na'im being the persistent person he is, brought up his jersey topic again.

"Ahhh, you won't kill me today na'im" Ammiey shook her head "My MasterCard is inside my third drawer, Na'im boots and jersey only" She emphasized "I will chop off your head if you buy anything apart from those"

"Cross my heart and hope to die" He grinned and instantly disappeared upstairs to his mother's elegant bedroom which smelled of bakhoor. After searching for awhile, he spotted the MasterCard and was just about to push back the drawer when a hard picture caught his eyes.

Curious, he took the picture and stared at the smiling middle aged man on it. He was clad in the pilot's uniform with four golden stripes on the epaulets on his shoulder. What made him utterly confused was the unmistakable resemblance between him and the man he knew nothing about.

"Na'im have you found the MasterCard? Why are you taking so long?" Ammiey questioned as she casually walked into the room.

"I saw this" He waved the picture in the air "Is he a relative? We look so much alike"

Ammiey gasped as her eyes grew wide. "Na'im!" She exclaimed "I thought i have trashed that picture"

He shrugged "I have never seen him before, this is the second time I'm seeing the picture tho"

She gasped, this time almost inaudibly "He's no one" She finally said, snatching the picture away from him.

His brows furrowed at his mother sudden behavior "Why do you have his picture? Something is certainly fishy and Ammiey you know how curious i can be" And she knew it was true. She knew how Intrigued her son could be. She knew he'd eventually find out, and that would only cause more devastation. Its better she told him herself than him to find out himself.

"Its your father" She blurted out what she'd been hiding for fifteen good years.

Na'im laughed throwing his head back and once he steadied himself, he said "That was so funny Ammiey unfortunately abba wouldn't want his wife to become a comedian, your children either"

"This is no laughing matter" Ammiey said sternly.

Na'im grin was instantly gone as his brows came together in a frown, a deep confused frown "What do you mean by he is my father? Abba... father... i... what?"

A lone tear cascaded down Ammiey's beautiful face and she quickly turned her face to the side "Abdullah bunza is your real father"

"How could you say that man is my father when i don't even know or seen him before? You're pulling my legs, aren't you?"

"Why would i joke with...?"

"Ammiey!" Na'im cut her short, the veins in his forehead suddenly popping out.

"Abba is not your real father" She said finally meeting his gaze "We separated since you were a year old"

The revelation hit him so hard that he'd to quickly rest his entire body against the drawer and blink for a few times to make sure it really wasn't a dream.

After a millennium later, he looked up only to see Abba at the door. From the look on his face, he knew he didn't just come.

"Abba?" He called slowly "Is it true?"

Abba reluctantly bobbed his head. He didn't like what his wife just did but then again Na'im ought to know sooner or later.

"Noo..nooo... its not true" Na'im shook his head vehemently and ran out of the room. On reaching the living room downstairs, he grabbed his overcoat from the hanger and ran out as fast as he could, turning a deaf ear to his Ammiey's appeals for him to listen to her.

"Abba I shouldn't have told him" Ammiey sobbed into Abba's chest "You know how he gets when he's angry"

"Shhh... its okay Aishana, everything will be alright in shaa Allah; i will follow him" He consoled, but he wasn't at peace too.

Despite the almost unbearable biting weather, Na'im ran not knowing where to go specifically. He wasn't ready to accept that mind boggling news, not today and certainly not anytime soon. Thus, he continued to run for he knew at that moment, only that would ease his heart.

Ammiey had begun to doze off on Abba's shoulder in the living room when they heard the front door being opened. They quickly stood up, staring pitifully at Na'im who took slow steps into the room.

It was already 8pm.

Abba had followed him but didn't catch a glimpse of him. So, they helplessly sat in the living room, waiting for him to come back. And now that he was back, they both felt relieved.

Ammiey stood on her tippy toes and hugged him tightly as if afraid he would vanish if she let go of him.

"I'm sorry you'd to go through this" She whispered, her eyes puffy from crying for hours.

When they pulled away, he smiled, a smile that obviously didn't reach his eyes.

"You haven't eaten, come and eat please, i don't want you to get sick"

"I'm probably going to throw up all the food so there's no use" He said, turned towards his room then stopped.

"Ammiey and Abba were you really serious about that?" Na'im said, his voice strained.

Only Abba managed to nod his head.

"Okay, Good night" He said and quickly entered his bedroom which was decorated in a camouflage and army theme with novelty furniture and army posters.

He'd taken a hot bath and already hopped on his bed when Ammiey peeked her head into the room.

"Na'im?" She called softly.

"Hmmm?" He answered, sitting up from his reclining position.

She slowly walked in and sat on the bed beside him before taking his hand in hers "You're not okay huh?"

He looked at her and swallowed a lump.

"You know i love you right? And you know i will always be there for you?"

He nodded as his reply.

"What happened earlier should not stop you from respecting and loving Abba, because he's also your father, he is a part of me; a part of us" Ammiey uttered almost in a whisper and continued "He gave you that fatherly love  every child needs and still gives you"

"Has... ummm.. he... the.. other man... i mean.. my other father, has he ever looked for me? Or tried to take custody of me or something?"

Ammiey didn't utter a word which gave him answer to his questions.

When she looked up to look at him, her heart constricted. There were unshed tears in his eyes. He swallowed another lump.

"I know you still haven't let them down, do it know, i assure you that you will feel much better"  She stroked his arm only to feel the hot temperature of his body.

"Subhanallah! Your temp is high. Please na'im don't be so worked up, You have me, Abba and Khadijah. I know it's difficult for you to accept all this but everything is going to be alright" She hugged him, letting her tears fall.

"Surely, everything will be alright but I don't think i can ever like that man, he has never even.... God! Abba is not my father?"

"Shhhh" Ammiey shushed him "I will get you something that will cool down your temp, want some hot choco? You know you can't take coffee at this hour of the night"

He nodded with a small smile on his face. Once she walked out, he let out a sigh wondering if he'd ever believe that Captain Abdullah Bunza was his real father.
