6: AMIR SADDIQUE

Chapter 6: AMIR SADDIQUE

itz_Mjay surprise! It's Thursday and here's an update 💃🏾💃🏾 henjoyyy!!

Slowly but gradually, Hilwa was getting used to things, she was adapting quite well to the luxurious life of Abuja. Finally, daddy had decided it was time for her to stop the home lessons and join school.

Hilwa stared at herself in the mirror admiring herself. She'd to admit, she looked beautiful and smart in her school uniform. But despite how excited she was, she couldn't stop the jittery feeling she was having in the pit of her stomach.

Well.. who doesn't get nervous on their first day of school?

"Are you set Hilwa?" Feenah asked from behind her, putting on her small white khimar. She'd donned her uniform too.

"Yeah" Hilwa shot her a nervous smile.

Feenah sighed and stood in front of her "Don't be nervous. Everything will be alright" She reassured.

Hilwa nodded flashing her a bright smile now. Her hair which was braided into the 'two step' style was neatly packed. She unfolded her white himar and put it on.

Feenah grinned and held her hand "Lets go down and eat breakfast, we're going to be late"

"Ah ahh see how beautiful you look Hilwa" Basma who they met at the dining eating together with layla, complimented.

Hilwa smiled radiantly "Thank you yaya basma"

Layla looked at her and rolled her eyes but deep down she wouldn't lie she knew she looked beautiful, she always looked beautiful, she just wasn't ready to admit that.

Shortly after, Aunty and daddy entered, they all greeted them.

"Mashaa Allah, hilwa see how pretty you look in your uniform" Aunty smiled at her. Hilwa returned the smile, a shy one.

"My daughter is looking pretty kam" Daddy chuckled and patted her head "Make sure you concentrate and study hard. Don't mind all those bad girls and boys, and do not hesitate to ask Feenah or layla for help if you need anything. They are your sisters, they'll always be there for you, okay?"

"Thats right Hilwa. Be a good girl." Aunty smiled.

Hilwa nodded meekly.

"Hilwa!" Feenah called from jss3B classroom door.

"Feenah!" Hilwa exclaimed, excited to see her.

Apparently, Feenah was in jss3A while hilwa was in B. After the three boring periods it was finally break time. Thus, feenah came to meet her so they could spend the break with her and her two girlfriends.

"These are my friends, Hajra and Firdausi but you can call them Siyam and Firr" Feenah introduced.

"Hey" Hilwa smiled coyly at them.

"Siyam and Firr meet my famous cousin and friend, Hilwa" Feenah passed hilwa a look that tells her to go with you the flow.

"Hello" The two pretty teens waved.

"Well..." Feenah squealed "An additional member to our group, lets have a group hug girls."

Giggling, They all hugged and later sauntered out of the classroom to the school premises where all the students spend their break time.

They bought some snacks and drinks of their choices then sat in a circle to eat.

"Hey girls!"

They all poked their heads to where the voice came.

"Amir!" Firr, Siyam and Feenah chirped while Hilwa just silently watched him. The boy looked around 17 or 18years old. He was tall and cute with a hint of bearded stubble growing over his chin.

"How are you?" He asked, squatting between Siyam and Feenah.

"Good, How are you?" Came their answer.

"I'm fine..." His gaze slowly averted to hilwa and his lips stretched into a wide smile "Newbie huh?"

She managed to give him a small smile.

"Whats the name?" He asked with a smile, which hilwa found ultra-cute.

"Hilwa Haroun" She answered, taking a small bite out of her meat pie.

"Hmm..." He nodded "Unique and pretty. I'm Amir saddique, The head-boy of this school"

She nodded with a smile.

"You have a beautiful smile"

Hilwa barely restrained herself from blushing red.

Amir chuckled at that before he got to his feet "I will see you around Hilwa" Then turned to the girls "Bye girls, break is almost over"

"What just happened?" Firr whisper-yelled, with eyes bulged out once amir was gone.

Siyam had the same expression on her face as she spoke "Help me ask o"

Feenah rolled her lips trying not to burst into fist of laughter at her friends' faces.

Hilwa's brows corrugated in puzzlement but decided to keep mum.

"Hilwa" Siyam almost screamed "He said you have a beautiful smile... Oh Allah! Why aren't you happy?"

Hilwa shrugged.

"Thats amir saddique, apparently the finest boy in this school, and he's very intelligent too, and he's the head-boy and and and He just complimented you, he said you have a beautiful smile" Firr babbled.

"Uhh... sooooo?" Hilwa dragged, wondering why on earth she'd be super excited just because amir told her that.

"Hissoryst, i wee not say anything again, pesin is so beaurriful dazzwhy she doesn't even care" Siyam pretended to wipe invisible tears and sniffed.

"Sorry hilwa, she's obviously the most dramatic girl in the whole wide world, so bear with her" Feenah chuckled.

You haven't met meeno yet, Hilwa silently thought and she couldn't stop the big grin on her face.

The girls continued to chat animately until the break time was over, they escorted hilwa to her classroom before they headed to theirs.

It was almost a month since Naim left for his BCT and the girls couldn't be happier about it. They could do whatever they want without being reprimanded by their pesky soldier brother.

Feenah and Hilwa's bond was always stepping up. It was always rock n roll when the two are together. Basma was being her normal 'Talk to me then i will talk to you, don't talk to me then missy I won't talk to you as well' self. Layla was still being Layla... if anything her detestation towards her had only became more intense.

Today was another bright new day for hilwa. Her favorite day of the week. It was Thursday, the sports and games day. Thursdays were always fun to her as she got the chance to do different kinds of sports activities, chat and learn lots of new things. She'd made some new friends from her class, and even though all of them were classy with loaded parents, she blended well with them. All thanks to feenah for always being there for her.

Hilwa barely restrained herself from squealing as the bell rung for the sports and games to begin.

She and Firr were in the same house which was The blue house while Siyam and Feenah were in The red house.

She zipped her pencil case and walked out of the classroom to meet them in the field.

"Miss haroun"

She turned to see the head-boy walking towards her which made her smile brightly.

"Ahh don't kill someone with that smile mana" He joked as he halted in front of her.

They both chuckled before he asked "How are you?"

"I'm good head boy and yourself?" She briefly scanned him. He was also wearing the same blue shirt as hers but his black trousers were short while hers were long.

He stirred beside her and they started to walk to the field together.

"I'm good as well" He answered smiling at her.

Since the first day she met him, they always talked whenever they met. He was a jolly boy full of spirit and also a talkative. Hilwa wasn't really too fond of chatty people but for some odd reason, she always enjoyed his company.

"Why aren't you wearing black shoes head-boy? Like every other student" Hilwa asked as amir hunkered down to tie his shoelace.

He looked up and smirked "Because I'm the head boy, Isn't it too obvious?"

Hilwa sneered, folding her arms over her chest.

He got up and dusted his hands "Rat ate the toecaps of my black sneakers" He drew his fuzzy brows together with a poker face.

Hilwa flung her head back and laughed heartily. "It can't be... You're joking, aren't you?"

"I'm very serious Hilwa. Wallahi basu ji, they are very stubborn, now i have to get new ones" His frown deepened as he sat on a nearby bench "And i love my shoes so much"

The seriousness of his expression made her laugh again "Come on now stop frowning, you look horrible when you do that. A rat shouldn't make you angry" She snickered, covering her mouth with her hand.

"What if i grin?" He said replacing his frown with a wide grin, stroking his stubble.

She giggled and gave him a thumbs up.

"Uhm.. Mi andi mi boddo, i know I'm handsome" He said and laughed.

Hilwa's eyes popped out "So daman adon nana fulfulde? So You speak fulfulde? I'm really shocked"

"Haven't you noticed the curly hair?" He pointed at his head with a smirk and her mouth formed a perfect 'O'

"My mother was.. is.. was... is.. wait! I don't know how to put it, she's dead. So is it going to be she was fulani? This stupid English, whatever" He waved his hand in the air "Dada am pullo un, o ekitini am tun kafin o maya,  since she died i barely speak it"

"Allah yafu mo hinnu mo, May her soul rest in peace" She shot him a sad smile "Do you have a sibling?"

"Yeah i do, i have a 3year old brother, Ammar and three step sisters"

"Mashaa Allah"

There was a short silence before amir spoke again in a low voice "A lot of things changed since mother died, my step mother isn't treating us so well, that heartless woman" He muttered anger flashing in his eyes "Well... I don't know why I'm telling you this, but I can't wait to finish school, go to university, move out of that goddamn house with my brother and get settled, because honestly that woman has no atom of pity in her heart, she just cares about herself and her three children. The most annoying part is that father isn't doing anything about it... I don't know what to do"

Hilwa's heart sank as she saw the extreme anger on his face. Who could have thought that the cheery head boy with the I don't care attitude was going through a lot? Surely, people can mask their pain.

"I'm sorry" That was all she could utter. She wished she could do something to lessen his perturb.

He chuckled softly but the pain in his eyes was still there "What are you sorry for Hilwa?"

She heaved a sigh "Have you ever met your father personally and spoke to him about the matter?"

He smiled a little and nodded slightly "Countless times, he'd listen and say he'd do something about it... but.. but he never did.. i wonder if he at all cares"

Hilwa sat on the bench beside him, maintaining a good distance. She opened her mouth to verbalize but nothing came out. What was she going to do or say to make him feel better? Her brain had never been this blank.

When she still didn't speak he proceeded "But Allah promised us twice in the Qur'an that with every hardship comes ease"

Thats when words decided to spurt out of her mouth "Undoubtedly, and He's always with us. In shaa Allah, all will be well"

"You're the only person i told this" He looked at her and smiled a bit "I trust you for some unknown reason, thats one of my secrets, and i hope you will keep it"

She nodded "In shaa Allah."

"Now smile, you look horrible with that worried face" He joked just like how she did earlier.

That made hilwa grin "How do you do that?"

"Do what?" He perfectly quirked an eyebrow.

"You're going through a lot but look at you, acting as if you're the happiest person on earth" She eyed him, a disbelieve look on her face.

"I'm naturally like that, and I don't think anybody can make me feel better even if i show them how worried i am" He shrugged "So...just kill'em with this happy face" He then smiled widely and pointed at his face.

"You surely deserve to be the head boy" She nodded at him impressively.

"Don't make my head swell"

She laughed "I heard you write poems and even won a lot of prizes"

"Uhh yeah i do... i wrote one dazu, let me show you" He brought out a paper from his pocket and carefully unfolded it then handed it to her.

Morning glory ma lady!
A bless day i pray
Another chance to chase our dreams
Yesterday was a nice day
It was brightened by the thought of your smile
I hope you have smiled at least once today
So that the sun can recharge to shine a little more bright
And everything can be alright
I can take a pen and write
For you to see and smile
And have me on your mind
Hoping one day we will bind
And i will call you mine
Beautiful sun shine outside
Have a good day and good vibes

"Wow!" Hilwa exclaimed and clapped her hands together "This is impressive, like i said earlier you truly deserve to be the head boy"

He playfully pretended to brush dust off his shoulders.

"Is it for your girlfriend? 'Morning glory ma lady!' Ay?" She quoted, a teasing smile playing on her lips.

He faked a cough "Girl... what? I'm too young to date but if you're going to date me, I wouldn't mind"

"You are not serious" They laughed together.

"I don't usually write something like that but a little love something wouldn't hurt right?" He winked.

"Surely!"

"We've wasted more than 30mins here, lets go and join the badminton"
