10. (b) The End

Some stories are better left uncompleted. Happy endings are just a myth. Thankyou for all the love on this story. This was a hard chapter to write but i hope i did justice to it. I gave all the closure to Virushka that i could in the last chapter and you guys have two endings now.

So either believe in this one or the previous one.

I believe in this one.

Tell me what you think.

See you on humsafar. (And maybe awari that is a new virat fanfic which im not telling you guys anything more about)

---

They say that the time between lifne and death is the most complicated and the most painful time of your life. When you're at the point of knowing that you won't survive and when you just simply give in, not bothering to fight anymore, not bothering to survive anymore because you can't, things become crystal clear.

Happy endings are a myth. Cinderella's happy ending was fake and unrealistic, sleeping beauty wss just a character. Our lives are based on solely unrealistic thoughts and we often believe we'll be happy when wr find the right person.

And we do get happy. But at some point, life is meant to fuck your happiness up by taking away that special person away from you.

Forever.

And ever.

Anushka was shot.

With all the chaos around them and the yelling of soldiers, all Virat could do was wrap his arms around her body and scream for help.

He tried to ask the peramedics to help him but there was no point. They were too busy helping others and while he, himself could not move much, he still clung himself onto her, trying to put pressure on her stomach and arm where she was shot.

She was wheezing, her breath was abnormal and no words came out of her mouth. She felt like she was stuck in motion.

"Virat," Anushka whispered, her breath coming out choked and shaky.

"The paramedics are going to help us any minute," Virat ignored her as she called his name again and again.

"Vee," She repeated.

"They are going to help you and we're going to get you to the hospital. You're gonna be fine, okay?" He informed with certainty but Anushka moaned in pain, utter pain.

"No, No, Virat.."

"Just a few minutes, okay?" He assured and then turned his head around to see if they were free yet.

"They're gonna get you to be okay." Virat whispered, trying to assure himself more than her.

When Anushka had gotten a gun pointed at her head, the militants had entered at the very same time. But it was still too late, infact she was shot right at the time of the huge explosion by the army.

They were too late.

"Virat, I'm dying," She told him. The words shocking him to no extent.

How could she think like that? She was supposed to be okay. She had to be okay.

Her breath started to quicken as Virat turned his head back to her, his face filled with feelings of shock and hurt.

"No you're not," He quickly put out. He denied her the right to even think that.

"I am." She confirmed.

Her chest heaved from the pain. She remembered the lovely dream she had, the dream of simply dreaming that the incident wasn't real.

That Virat was okay, that she was okay, that they were okay.

"I am dying, Please," She began, but the shortness of breath, the bleeding from the wounds and pain from it made it hard for her to speak.

It also didn't help that she had started to cry.

"I want you to know that I love you." She gasped, trying to gain a little control.

"I have only felt cherished when I was," She inhaled and exhaled. "With you, you are my everything.

"You're not dying. You're going to be fine," Virat said in a calm and soothing voice, unable to accept the probable fact.

He ignored it, he knew she loved him. She was going to be okay, they were going to get married and they were going to fly.

He knew she wasn't going to die.

But Anushka didn't look convinced. She moved her shaking hand slowly, closer to Virat's face.

"Hold my hand," She whispered.

Virat knew what she meant.

He had a habit of holding her hand and gently nibbling and kissing on it, Anushka used to say that it provided her the comfort she needed during a hard time. He did it when she had a long flight away from him and she wanted to feel him before she left.

Virat looked down at her hand that was opened wide, near it face. He gave it a blank look and then pulled his own hands back

"I'm not holding your hand because you are not dying and you are not going on a big flight."

But Anushka still knew that he was wrong. She was dying. She felt the fear and the chills, the grave intensity.

She didn't know when it would happen but she knew it was going to be soon and all she wanted was to do was have him with her.

One last time.

"Please, do it."  She repeated waving it closer to him. Tears dripped down her eyes, the fear making her cry.

"Nush, baby, You're not dying. Do you hear me? You don't get to die on me." He told her with full confidence as he stared into her scared soul.

"Virat, they're not helping us because they know there's no point. Look around." That's when he realised that they were trying to save the people who could be saved.

Not the ones who were breathing their last.

He saw the ones that she had saved, the ones that she had protected, he saw how even after getting shot she had helped her crew along with him and gotten them out, he remembered how she had slid down the pathway with blood all over her.

And how they had both hugged each other while sliding down..

He wished it ws him, not her.

He wished that he was the one in pain, not her.

He wished he could take it away.

But he couldn't.

He choked out a sob.

"I love you," He said.

"I'm sorry I didn't say yes, I wanna marry you," She repeated it over and over again.

She had said it so many times but the desperation was clear now.

We only realise the importance of things when we can't have them.

"Then don't die, marry me. I love you. I love you. I will always be in love with you," Virat cried.

"Marry you?" She questioned drowsily with a broken smile.

"Haan," Virat assured, and tightened his grip on her hand kissing it again and again.

"Which is why you can not die. We're gonna get married." He tried.

She shook her head.

"Nahin jaana chahti. Par jana to parega na. (I don't want to go but I don't have a choice)" She cried.

"Kese rahunga main tere baghair? Nahin aata hai jeena. Kya karoon ga? Kahan jaunga? Tu ghar hai mera, meri jaan hai," He cried as he kept speaking.

(How will I live without you? I don't know how to. What will I do? Where will I go? You're my home, my life)

"Tu ne mujhe dhoka diya hai, tu ne shadi ke liye mana kiya, mera dil tora, phir meri jaan bachane ke liye khud ki jaan daav pay laga di, phir mera dil tora. Aur ab tu ja rahi hai? Mera dil tor ke? Hamesha ke liye?" She shouted as she cried, she didn't want him to be angry at her.

(You betrayed me, you refused to marry me and broke my heart, you threw yourself under the bus to save me and broke my heart, now you're leaving me, breaking my heart over and over again)

"Tu aaj bhi larega mujhse? Maaf nahi kar sakta?" (You will fight with me today too? Can't you forgive me?) She pleaded.

"Matt jao Anu.( Don't go Anu). Please." He begged but it wasn't her choice.

She wheezed again.

She remained quiet, touching his face over and over again.

"Tell my granny I didn't give up, That I fought and I was brave." She said, her voice broken.

"Anushka, no." Virat cried.

"Please keep flying, don't give up on your dreams." Virat shook his head, not wanting to hear everything.

He didn't want to hear all these last messages. It scared him.

"I'll miss you." She whispered, cupping his face.

"Tu kahin nahi ja rahi." (You aren't going anywhere)

He said firmly.

She gasped and cried.

"Jaane do, bauhat dard hai." (Let me go, I'm in pain)

"Mujhe de de apna dard." (Give me your pain)

Virat pleaded but there was no point.

So he cried and she cried.

She cried because she was scared. He cried because she was leaving him. Forever.

It was cruel. But this was life. It wasn't supposed to be fantasy, like movies. Life was real and life was fucked up.

The only thing worse than losing someone you love is watching them die right before your eyes and not being able to do anything about it.

Anushka gasped for another breath.

"Will you sing me a song?" She asked after a while.

Virat shook his head. She always asked him to sing and he always refused, telling her he would sing for her some other day.

"Please.." She pleaded.

He nodded, sniffing.

"Tu aati hai seene mein

Jab jab saansein bharta hoon

Tere dil ki galiyon se

Main har roz guzarta hoon,"

His voice cracked at every word, he ran his hands through her hair like a loved one would do, just to make her feel better.

Her breaths quickened and then slowed their pace.

"Jis din tujhko na dekhun

Pagal pagal phirta hoon

Kaun tujhe yoon pyaar karega

Jaise main karta hoon.." He sang more and he heard her pained voice.

Her eyes slowly moved to the state of drowsiness, the time between death and life was over, and it was time for her to go.

"Aankhein band karo ge toh main dikhoongi. Tum kabhi akele nahi ho ge."

(Whenever you need me, just close your eyes. You won't ever be alone.)

With those last words, he heard a gasp and then, just like the wind, she was gone.

And he was all alone.

Forever.
