Twelve
I hopped through the window quietly, being hidden and quiet is how I've been my entire life, so I'm pretty use to it. Where I stood had no camera views, so I was lucky for picking a good spot. I grabbed my slingshot (that I had gotten earlier), and grabbed my paintballs. I quickly launched them with precise aim, hitting the lens.
"You aren't going alone." I heard Jason whisper. My eyes widened in shock, why was he following me? Did he care because of my mental state? Or did he just want to see if I could do it? Was he put up to this?
"Your going to get yourself in trouble." I mumbled, continuing on my way to the ring store. I spent the last while stalking their patrolling, and they switch every hour and 45 minutes, so in 5 minutes they switch, they the switching guards usually talk for about two minutes, and that's when I strike!
"What's the plan?" Jason asked, and he still seemed to be in shock, probably because he chose to do this.
"Last chance to back out, Grace. Cause if you get caught, your going to have a cell right next to mine. I planned on getting away from school and Gabe, and it would be useless if you were there too." I growled silently. I can't get attached to him, he might've been my crush since I first saw him, but it doesn't mean I need any attachments. I only like him because of how observant he his, how desperate he is even though he doesn't realize it. I sighed to myself, why did he have to make things so difficult for me?
"Well, your going to have me as a cell neighbour for a while because I'm not backing down." Jason said. I hate how competitive and stubborn he could be, it makes things difficult, as I already stated. I realized it was time for them to be switching, but they were still walking perimeter. I looked at the time, shit! I was an hour off! There is still about another hour until they actually switch. I grabbed my screw driver and started to take off the screws for the air vent.
"Catch the screws, if we make any noise, you are toast." I ordered. Once we did just that, we climbed in, and I screwed it back, there could be no evidence about us ever being here. I crawled in front of Jason, and I kinda felt bad cause he was stuck staring at me behind. I slowed down at an intersection, and it was around the food court. I sat at one part and Jason sat at another part, close enough so we could whisper.
"What are you even trying to get?" Jason asked quietly. I dug the pictures out of my pocket soundlessly. I showed him the images and he looked confused.
"Why do you want an engagement ring and an over priced ring for girls?" Jason asked with a raised eyebrow. I sighed.
"It's not for me. My step father Gabe wanted the engagement ring, I don't know why, and I don't care. And Mrs. Smith said she wouldn't call Gabe if I got this ring for her, because of the whole fight thing." I explained simply.
"Why is it such a bad thing if Gabe got called? Wouldn't he just ground you or something?" Jason asked and I couldnt help but chuckle.
"He would hang me, literally. Has before, will again. Hangs me till I fall unconscious then uses me as a fucking punching bag." I growled. I hated I was telling him this, that he was making himself so damn adorable. I rubbed my forehead.
"I'm sorry for asking. It's your business." Jason said suddenly, and he sounded like he felt bad, all I wanted to to was tell him it was alright, have him hold me in his strong arms. Feel content for once in my miserable life. "But why didn't you ever kill yourself? If Gabe is an asshole to you?" Jason asked.
"I couldn't do that to my mom. It pisses Gabe off that I'm alive, and as long as I live, he would be mad. I'm not afraid of death, I find the thought comforting, it's why I love heights. The idea that I can chose if I live or not comforts me." I smiled slightly at the thought. The quick death, being able to stare at the stars when I fall.
"I guess that's why I got this tattoo, because it keeps my rooted. It holds me down when I need to be restrained. I get my life is fantastic compared to yours, but I do struggle with expectations. My sister left and my mom expects me to be a lot of things she wasn't." Jason said with a far away look on his face after showing my his anchor tattoo.
"How about, after this we go do something together? We can go get a tattoo together, I know one that I've been wanting for a while." I smiled easily at him.
"It's a date." Jason said with a smile. He was blushing like crazy for some reason. I was excited. Gabe is still gone so maybe I can invite him for the night. No! Percy! What are you doing? I smiled at myself despite the thoughts. I checked the time, it's already been an hour?!
"We have to go now if we want to pull this off." I said seriously, gaining my composure. We continued to crawl quickly, and when they were switching, we climbed out and moved quickly. I told Jason to sneak and hide in a dark area. After I shot the camera's of course. I shook in quickly and quietly.
Everything was so eerie and silent, unsettling. Everything was in a glass container, with locks that I could easily pick. I worked quickly, my nimble fingers doing what it's good at. I stole what I needed to and escaped. Well, that was the original plan, the guards were back! I looked around, the only vent was right by the glass door, I would never make it. I looked at Jason, who hid himself pretty well. He looked at me worriedly. I nodded at him, I had a plan. I usually never used this, I avoided it actually.
I pulled out a ragged that had chloroform on it, I hated knocking people out, especially cause I use to use this to help me sleep. I shook up behind the closest guard and covered his mouth and nose, putting a hand over his mouth so he would stay silent. It took about 5 minutes for him to completely knock out, and he sure was a stubborn guy. I repeated the process with the other guard, and dragged them both against a wall. I rushed out silently, knowing there were others in the building. Jason and I walked out as quick as we could.
"Man that was crazy!" Jason whisper yelled, it was quite amazing. His face brightened like never before, and I only now realized how forced his previous smiles were with the others.
"You were the one watching, it was horrifying." I laughed with him. Once we were far away, sirens sounded, and it sounded like it was heading towards the mall. "We have to hurry and get this to Mrs. Smith. She will give the other one to Gabe. She cannot see you though. I gave her address." I explained.
