~Tao~
Days he'd been laying in a hospital bed, shirtless and smelling nothing but that sickening hospital smell. Days he'd been hooked up to wires and a heart monitor. They'd said they wanted to monitor how he was doing. He'd cracked a rib--or should he say, the boss and Lu Han had cracked his rib. Not a hairline crack, but a crack big enough to get a artery caught in it. If anyone pressed, he'd cough blood.
He wished he could relax, but all he could think about was the threats, the job he had to do--Min-hee.
He got a billion messages from Haneul that he wasn't going to answer, mainly because Chanyeol had taken his phone from him, saying he should rest, but also because he just didn't know what to say to her. She was mad again, she said she was going to dump him at least three million times. What was he supposed to say to that?
And then Baekhyun, Kris and Sehun, they kept leaving messages, asking where he was, he wished he could tell them. But Chanyeol said not to sent anything. Tao had never seen Chanyeol so serious, so scared in the eyes. Tao had never imagine that Chanyeol had stuff he was afraid of, it never occurred to him that he could be running from something too, Tao had thought of Chanyeol eternally as a Happy Virus.
The way he'd just flat out denied him calling Min-hee, Tao didn't know what to think about what went on behind that infectious smile.
Tao fiddled ran a hand through his hair, looking over at Yi Xing who was just silently monitoring him and writing down a few things. He wanted out of here already, he'd done enough sleeping and laying around. If he couldn't tell Min-hee where he was, he wanted to tell her in person.
He was scared out of his thoughts when he heard screaming outside the door. Loud, painful screaming. Tao sat raised an eyebrow, trying to discern what it was they were saying.
"Take it out! Just pull it out, make it stop!"
Tao recognized that voice. It sounded like...Baekhyun. What could Baekhyun be doing at a hospital? Why would...
Tao started to get up, but Yi Xing reached over and gently pushed him back.
Yi Xing smiled, his eyes looking over his frames. "I'm sure everything's alright, you need rest."
"I know him, I'm almost sure, just let me see!" Tao yelled. He'd been keeping a lot of pent up frustration to himself, he was ready to blow at anything, it just so happened to be this. "He's my friend, you can't just--.
"Huang Zitao," Yi Xing started, closing his eyes and sighing. "I'll check for you, alright? Maybe you can visit later, but right now I'm running a test or two, you have to stay put."
Tao threw his head back, groaning and staring at the ceiling again. Yi Xing muttered an apology, then went out the door, leaving Tao by himself for a minute. A minute to just stare at the ceiling, thinking about what could make Baekhyun scream like that.
Was he hurt then? This was a hospital. But Baekhyun didn't like fights. As much as he knew how to handle himself, he wouldn't get himself hurt.
Did he get in a car crash? Did he piss some guy off and get his ass kicked? But what was that about pulling something out? Taking something out?
"Byun Baekhyun." Yi Xing said, coming back into the room, scaring Tao. "That's his name, he's got a knife in his leg."
Tao heard the heart monitor slow down in the background, then speed up as he took in what he had just said. "A-A knife?" Tao sat up, stuttering at first, not knowing how to take that other then being because of who Tao had gotten involved with. "What the hell do you mean?!"
Yi Xing shrugged. "He had a knife in his leg, and they were carting him off to the emergency room, I didn't get many details, the girl with him was crying and the guy just plain is not saying anything."
Tao felt his heart freeze, but the heart monitor beeped frantically. Girl? That couldn't be Haneul, Haneul didn't really give a sh*t about Baekhyun, she made fun of him behind his back.
Min-hee?
He threw his legs over the side of the bed, pulling the cables off.
"Zitao!" Yi Xing said, surprised, already rushing to trying and get Tao to lay back down. "You can't just--!"
Tao glared at him, stopping whatever he was going to say. "If you don't let me, I'll never sit still and let you run any tests, I don't care if it kills me."
Yi Xing was silent, then scratched the back of his neck. "I can't let you, not yet, and Baekhyun needs immediate attention, you can't see him right now anyway."
"To hell with that!" Tao yelled.
"It's just how it is, Huang, I can't make it go faster, you have to heal, and they have to stop Byun's bleeding... I'm sorry." Yi Xing bowed.
Tao groaned in frustration. He'd wanted to see Baekhyun, and he'd understood all that, but he'd wanted to see if the girl was Min-hee. She probably didn't know where he was, didn't know he was alright, probably worried.
Tao closed his eyes, facing away from Yi Xing. "That's not what I wanted..." Tao mumbled.
~Min-hee~
She sat in the waiting room with Kris. She didn't know how, but she'd gotten herself covered in Baekhyun's blood. It was on her shirt, on her hands. Who would even do this to Baekhyun? He didn't hurt anyone.
It's my fault.
Min-hee felt a arm go around her shoulders, she looked up to find it was Kris, smiling lightly. "Baekhyun's a drama queen, I'm sure it's not that serious, he'll be alright."
Min-hee didn't believe that, so she said nothing. But leaned toward him anyway. Just so she might feel better. She didn't. His warmth wasn't like Tao's, it didn't make her forget what hurt, it didn't make her feel safe. She felt the same, and she had a feeling it wouldn't change.
She took out her phone, seeing more messages from that creep.
You look beautiful like that.
Never change that shirt ;)
Min-hee frowned, pushing up her glasses, blood was not beautiful, not after what he'd done, not ever again, she'd make sure she'd change this shirt as soon as possible. She put the phone away. There wasn't any more threats for now, but she'd never been so scared.
As she was putting her phone away, she caught sight of a familiar face, walking with a frown. What was his name? What had Tao called him?
Min-hee got up, gently pushing Kris away from her and walking up to him. He was the messenger, she wished she could remember his name, but all she could remember was tackling him, and how he'd said stuff about her underwear. She looked him over, heading to the counter with a phone in his hand. For whatever reason, the phone seemed so familiar that she stared at it for a second.
Then he finally caught sight of her, eyes immediately widening and a smile coming to his lips. "Min-hee! Staying cute, I see." He said winking.
Min-hee pushed her glasses up, ignoring what he said. "You work for them."
He shrugged. "Most people do actually, like you know, have a job because they have to pay the rent and feed themselves, it's pretty regular."
"Tao." Min-hee said, "Where's Tao?'
He sighed dramatically. "I'm not his Mama, Jesus, I don't know where he is."
Min-hee didn't believe him, but before she could open her mouth to object, her phone buzzed, repeatedly, she was getting some onslaught of messages.
"Better answer those...!" He sighed. "Ah, What if it's Panda? Huh? Wouldn't that be something?" He wiggled his eyebrows. "Bet he's asking if you can sleep over!"
Min-hee blushed hard, but read the messages anyway. Maybe it would be Tao...Maybe...
Be careful who you talk to, not everyone is as nice as I am, sexy ;)
But then there were two other messages. One from Jaemin, one from some other number she didn't know.
Jaemin: Need to talk? I'm awake, lord knows why.
Unknown number: Don't worry, okay? And don't cry, I'm trying everything I can, I miss you, I want to see you, but I can't. Please just wait a little longer?
The messenger guy looked over her shoulder, the gasped dramatically. "Hey, That looks like Tao's number!" He said, overly excited. He playfully pushed Min-hee. "You little sly fox!" He giggled.
Min-hee was dumbstruck. What? What?!
"I'll see you later, okay?" He said, giving Min-hee a pat on the shoulder, then started walking down the hall.
~Tao~
Yi Xing had just finished hooking up all the wires for the heart monitor again. Tao didn't see why he needed all this, he felt fine, he was fine, this was stupid.
Chanyeol came in the room, smiling like an idiot. He didn't visit often visit in the three days Tao had been there, and Tao was even more surprised when Chanyeol skipped up and put Tao's confiscated phone in his hands.
"I just saved your ass, you have no idea, you can thank me later." Chanyeol winked.
Tao frowned. He was still upset about the staying in bed thing. "What are you even..." Tao started, then looked down at his phone. One new message from Baby Mini.
Chanyeol leaned in close. "Happy? Huh? Come on, Panda, I know you want to!" Chanyeol was being annoying, but Tao couldn't help the smile that came to his face. "Ah! There it is! There we go!" Chanyeol giggled.
Tao hit his shoulder. "So?"
"Panda-a-a! You had like three bugs on your phone!" Chanyeol pouted. "Why not just tell everyone what you're doing why don't you?"
Tao smirked. "That why you wouldn't tell Min-hee?"
Chanyeol got quiet. Probably the most quiet he'd been in a long time. Tao looked over, and he saw that scared look in Chanyeol's eyes. "That's something else..."
