Chapter 10 | Maahishmati VI

Amar was idly sitting in his room when he looked outside the window. Everything was same, the Mahal, the people and all the immobile things but inside him there was another person breathing, that person inside him was breathing for Rudra. He loved his parents since he was born because that's what we all do right? Since they are everything for us, they expect our birth, they have dream for us and furthermore memories to make but friends? We do not like them the moment we see them, it's never instant. It's unnerving, spontaneous and unexpected. We want them to be homely so that the way we are comfortable with our parents, we can feel the same way with them.

Sometimes with friends we feel more homely than our home. Amar had loving parents but since he learn to talk he had been told to protect Rudra, as his sister. That word stung now but nonetheless he will never do otherwise, he watched outside his window every night, worrying himself sick since the deaths prevailed. He was just 14, who would listen to him if he said they were in danger? He actually had the guts to mention it to Darbaan in their palace and he laughed and said something he yet thought every night.

'They all have a strong past, with the flick of fingers they'd finish off whatever that is there in the jungle. Amar, it's in their blood'

Their blood, he thought so deep as though why they were disregarded. He thought that no matter what the situation they would get out of it but how can he be so sure? He knew they won from Theerthali and wherever they're from but what he didn't know was the thing with blood. Not every existing Theerthali folks lived in the outskirts, some live inside Mahal because they serve the kingdom and are in position.

Suddenly he saw the lamps in Rudra's hut brightened, there was a visitor. He beckon the lamp near his table and tried to see who it was.

Rudra had to eat burnt food today because his mother had been busy with collecting wood and she had to make it. She even burnt her finger but she wanted the food to be presentable for her mother. When she smelt the fowl burning smell she ran inside and took out the utensil. She took out the not burnt rice selectively and put it on the plate. There was some sound outside her door and she ran towards it. She was carrying large trunk stretched in front and she fainted.

Rudra started crying badly and pulled her inside. She sprinkled water on her face and tried to wake her, as soon as she woke up she hugged her tight like there was no tomorrow. When her mother was seated nicely, Rudra went inside the kitchen and sobbed even badly, her mother was tired and the food she prepared was burnt. She had never been much guilty in her life. She gave her food and noticed how she didn't react or say anything but slept quickly.

Rudra couldn't take her face from her mind. The tired, wrinkled and weak face. Her all the talents, running, aiming and might was of no use for her now. She couldn't make her mother happy with those talent, she couldn't take out the burden off her with them. She needed to forget her childish fantasy and feed her mother and be her hope. She wouldn't train in the Sena, she wouldn't go out all day for playing.

Next day, everything changed for good or worse no one knew.

As soon as Amar woke up he ran towards their hut and searched for Rudra. All night he kept thinking about who that visitor might be and what did they want from her or her mother in that matter. As he looked inside the window he only saw her mother but not her. He looked closely at her, Rudra looked nothing like her but that wasn't the matter he had to look into right now.

He ran to every place they played and ran occasionally but he couldn't find her anywhere, he started getting worried. He muttered while massaging his temple.

Where is she? If she has gone herself somewhere casually I'd kill her myself. Why is she so dumb, stubborn, stupid and aghh!!? Where do I find her? Did she think about me? Does she ever, ever once in a lifetime think how I would feel !? She would've thought " O wow, an unusual thing let's go follow it. No one would need me, nobody is expecting to play with me, nobody cares for me, nobody would burst their mind with worry about my whereabouts. Wohoo let's go!" Yes, that's exactly what she might have thought.

Amar kept walking and reached the town, his steps faltered...

Before her mother could wake up, she took her basket and necessary items. She went straight to the market, she sat with some ladies and started learning how they cleaned the fish and cut them into pieces.

"Ae this place isn't for small girls, shove off!"

"Look at the way she's holding the head of the fish"

"Hahaha look she cut all of it, who's gonna buy that"

Rudra felt her eyes tears up, she felt like she was worth nothing, the things she was good at weren't needed. She didn't wipe her tears but still managed to keep the fish for display.

This is what she has to go through everyday and I play all day long. I'm such a bad daughter, I didn't even understand my own mother. She still goes through every hardship and never scold me about my carelessness.

People came and went, they took fishes from the ladies sat beside her but because she was new and inexperienced nobody wanted to risk the money. Her eye level matched to the knees of people and she didn't move her head until some footsteps were heard. Those legs stopped in front of her, she could make out those pair of legs at anytime of day and night not that she spends time on looking at them but because they held potential, to compete with her. It was Amar, in a common fish market...

Kaiki was laughing and dancing merrily inside the hut as she saw her 'so called' daughter take her stuff and leave hut on early hours. From now on she had decided not to work, she didn't wanted to feed that filth anymore. No offense or beating would have changed her thinking but little drama always did. Kaiki knew how to mend her, how to make her walk the way she wants.

Now you will work for me, earn for me and make food for me. I am not letting you go and serve this filthy Rajya with your inferior qualities. How dare you think this as your own Samrajya!? How dare you think, you will help them in any way! Now stink with those fish and try ...if you can to win your bloody lover bloke again. As if after ignorance he's gonna remember a un-ladylike and ugly girl like you! That comes from her stupid mother, both stupid and always up to get emotionally used.
