Chapter 8

"Alex, wake up honey, the doctor's ready to see you," Chad shakes me awake. I sit up, "Okay." I follow the four of them into a room. A nurse takes my temperature, and blood pressure. She asks the four of them questions about what happened. I sit there, about to pass out at any moment.

The doctor finally comes in to examine me. "She has the flu," he concludes, "the achy feeling may be because she is covered in bruises. From what, I don't know, a regular Advil every four hours should help."

I know what those bruises are from. Matt. He would kick, and hit me if I didn't do what he wanted. I'll tell them later, I don't feel comfortable in front of a doctor. I stagger out with them to the car.

"We have to drop Caleb and Kels off, then we'll go home. Is that okay?" Fallon asks. I nod, "Yeah, it's cool." Once we're all in the car, I work up the guts to tell them.

"Guys, I know where those bruises came from." All eyes (except Chad's) are on me. "Where, hun?" Kelsey asks. My answer is one word, "Matt."

"He beat you?" Caleb asks. "I know he did it sexually, but physically too?" Chad asks in disbelief. I nod, "He beat me pretty much everyday, if I did something to upset him, didn't do what he said, and pretty much every other stupid excuse he could come up with."

"Sweetie, that's terrible! No girl should be treated that way," Fallon says. "Why didn't you tell somebody?" Caleb asks. "Who would I tell, I have nobody!" I cry out.

"Aw Alex, in glad you told us now," Kelsey says, "just wish we could've prevented it."

We're now in line at Chick-Fil-A. Caleb and Kelsey, went home. I'm happy to be back home, with my family. I have to say, I kinda get where Chad was coming from. Logan may be my brother, but who knows what he plans to do in the future.

After we get our food, we head back out to the car. We eat our delicious chicken, with Chad's band, Anthem Lights, on the radio. I'll have to get them to sing to me sometime.

Chad gives me the CD, it's called You Have My Heart, he also gives me one called Escape. I take my CDs and head up to my room.

"Wanna watch a movie?" Chad asks. I nod, and we all get comfy on the couch. Obviously, the dogs all join us. Once we're comfy, Fallon pops in a movie called The Princess Bride.

This movie is actually really funny! I love it, halfway through Fallon falls asleep, leaving just me and Chad.

We just sit, enjoying the rest of the hilarious movie. Afterwards, he turns to me, "Some of those songs are super inspirational. Listen to Turn Around, Hide Your Love Away, and Boomerang first." He refers to the CDs.

I nod, "I will. Well, I'm of to bed. Night Chad."

"I'll come upstairs with you," he says, jumping up. He again sits on my bed while I change. Afterwards, I get all comfy.

"Night, kiddo, love you," he says turning off my lamp. I kiss his cheek, "Love you too. See ya in the morning." He tiptoes out, and closes my door. I close my eyes, and drift off into dreamland.

The next morning, I am shaken awake. My eyes dart open to see Alan. "Al, what're you doing here?" I ask, rubbing my eyes.

"Sssh! Alex, the house was robbed last night! Chad tried to stop the burglar, and got beat up pretty bad. He's in the ER. They don't know who he was, he was masked," he says softly.

I sit up, trying to let that sink in, "Is Fallon okay?" I ask. Alan nods, "She's got a few scratches, but she's fine. Luckily, he didn't get away with much before she called the cops."

I hug Alan, "I-Is Chad gonna be okay?" I ask, genuinely worried. "He should be, we're gonna go visit him. Get dressed so you can join us."

Alan leaves the room, and I throw on the closest thing to me. Purple skinny jeans, and a blue sweater. I slip on my uggs, and a beanie. I grab my phone, and race downstairs. Pretty much everybody is here, Brycie is at home with the girls.

The first thing Caleb does is embrace me in a hug, "Alex! I'm so glad you're okay," he stokes my hair for a few seconds. Joey hugs me next, "Everything's gonna be okay. God's got this," he whispers.

Kelsey, Fallon, and Alan hug me too. Then, we walk out, and get in separate vehicles. Fallon, Joey, and I in one, and Caleb, Kelsey, and Alan in the other.

Joey starts the car, and begins the drive to the hospital. Fallon and I comfort each other the whole way there. We get there, and stop to talk to the receptionist.

"Chad Graham," Alan says. She nods, "He's in ICU, family only." Fallon steps forward, "I'm his wife. Can you please let him in, they're really his family?" The receptionist thinks for a moment, "Two at a time."
