Previously on My Flashlight

"Mutsuki, contact Akira." Haise said as he loosened his tie as his kugane began to appear.

'Akira, Arima, Mira...give me...courage!'

Haise snapped his finger.

Now

Everyone watched as Haise's kugane hardened as she stared at the ghoul infornt of him. Haise then leaped forward as he attacked the ghoul, destroying his kugane.

"He destroyed Orochi's kugane!" Shirazu said as Mira held her side.

'Don't give your hopes up, it'll be bad.' Urie thought.

Orochi regenerated his kugane.

"You're stronger then I expected you to be." Haise said when all of the sudden Orochi was infront of him.

"Why thank you." Orochi said as he kicked Haise in the stomach. Haise scooted back a bit before he uses his kugane to grab a pole, he then leaped forward with the pole in his hand as he struck at Orochi. Who dodged the attacks.

"So awesome...he's using his kugane and his quinque." Shirazu said in amazement.

Orochi kicked the quinque out of Haise's hand.

"That's cheating." Orochi said as he started to kick Haise in the stomach over and over agian. Haise spit out blood.

"How'd you like this!" Orochi said as he used his kugane to hit Haise back as the other's gapsed.

"Mr. Sass!" Shirazu yelled.

Haise laid on the floor.

'I can't...regenerate in time...'

A figure with a red glowing eye stood above Haise.

'Haise...Haise...'

Haise opened his eyes as his ghoul eye appeared, causing the others to gasp I  surprise.

"Teach!" Mutsuki said as he and Shirazu ran forward

"Stand down." Haise siad as he put his arm out, Mira reached Shirazu and grabbed his arm, clutching it as she clenched her teeth.

"Trust him." She muttered as her short hair covered her face.

"But..." Mutsuki started but then Haise turned his head slightly.

"Superiors orders." Haise said.

Haise began to jump in place as he stretched his arms.

'It's almost...like he's a different person.' Mutsuki thought as Haise smirked.

"You aren't getting through Orochi." Haise said as he stretched his arms behind his head.

"Yeah..." Orochi said as Haise continued to stretch his arms out, "I'm suddenly becoming more intrested in you then in those kids and that annoying woman."

'Four eyes!!!' Mira thought as she scowled as Haise let out a light laugh.

"I think you're better off kt knowing about...me." Haise said as he looked up with a crazed look in his eyes. He then snapped his finger, surprising his students again.

"Don't lose it, Haise." Mira mumbled as she clutched onto Shirazu's arm. They watched as Haise's kugane attacked Orochi, cutting his kugane in half, Orochi flipped back to avoid the attacks.

'This...almost seems like...' Orochi thought before he was impaled by Haise's kugane, Haise clenched his fist as his kugane raised Orochi into the air. More of his kugane pierced through Orochi, causing him to grunt.

"Pay back time!" Haise yelled as he swung him around.

'Dammit Kaneki, not now.' Mira thought as she watched the scene infront of her. Haise then threw Orochi to the ground and walked forward, his mask on the floor.

"Ah...I'm dead, I'm dead, I'm dead...or whatever. Jeez, what is it with you?" Orochi asked as he sat up a bit, "No matter how far you go, you're irredeemable, huh...Kaneki?" The man said, who was now known as Nishki Nishio, who looked up at Haise, who's eyes widened at the name.

"...Nishio..." Haise muttered as he grabbed his head in pain, "Huh? What? Who is Nishio? What is this? What am I saying?" Haise said to himself as images of Nishki popped up in his mind. Haise screamed in pain as his kugane came out while Nishki grabbed his mask as Mira let go of Shirazu, and walked forward.

"Miss Hisaki..." Mutsuki said.

"Stay put." Mira said as she limped towards Haise, knowing that she had to try to calm him.

"Sorry, but times up." Nishki said as he put his mask on.

"Nishki." Mira muttered as she walked closer as Nishki jumped away.

"Haise..." Mira said as she got in front of him and kneeled down, placing a hand on his shoulder. Haise screamed out in pain, "You need to calm down..." Mira grunted as she held her side, she looked down as he hand soaked in blood.

"No..." Haise croaked out, he smirked a little causing Mira's eyes to widened. All of the sudden Mira gasped, she slowly moved her head down, only to see Haise's kugane through her stomach. Mira's eyes widened as she coughed out blood her hand was shaking as it was still placed on Haise's shoulder.

"Haise..." Mira whispered before she fell down to the side.

"Hisaki!" Shirazu yelled.

The CCG then arrived.

"Pursuing Orochi is on hold. Our squads duty is to handle the SS-rated ghoul, 'Hasie'."

Haise screamed in pain as Mira laid on the floor motionless.

'SS-rated ghoul?' Mutsuki thougt.

"Kuramoto, Takeomi..."

"Right."

"Right." The two men said as they ran forward.

'Kurowiwa...' Urie thought.

The three dodged Haise's attacks as they hit him, causing him to gag out blood.

"Akira..."

"Yeah. I'm on it." Akira spoke as she was on top of a building with a gun in her hands.

'Time for a little nap, Haise.'

Akira pulled the trigger.

"You failed to secure Orochi and Torso, then?" Washu asked.

"I am terribly sorry." Akira spoke.

"No, never mind that, how is 1st rank Sasaki and 1st rank Hisaki doing?"

"He went out of control while fighting against Orochi, Hisaki proceeded to calm him down before we arrived, but was badly injured, but with Senior Investigator Hirako's help, we succeeded in calming him down." Akira said.

"Could his contact with Orochi have been the trigger?" Washu asked as Akira said nothing, "Well, good job, Senior Investigator Mado. Please continue looking after the Quinx squad and 1st ranks Sasaki and Hisaki for me."

"Yes, sir." Akira bowed as she left the room.

'The Quinx squad project was one that was personally initiated by Chief Washu. The chief was also the one who slected half-ghoul and assassin 1st ranks Sasaki and Hisaki to be the Quinx squad's mentors. But what are his true motives?' Akira thought.

"Senior Investigator Mado..." a voice brought Akira out of her thougts, "Is something the matter? You look so serious."

"Associate Special Investigator Kijima..." Akira said as she looked at then man with weird facial features.

"I heard you had a little trouble with 1st rank Sasaki."

"Yes. We were able to bring him under control this time." Akira said as she walked forward.

"The half-ghoul 1st rank Sasaki, assassin 1st rank Hisaki and investigators with built-in quinques, the Quinx-- truly a fascinating match-up, isn't it? "

Behind him stood 1st rank investigator Nimura Furuta. A man with shoulder length black hair and red eyess, completing his look was a black suit.

"Oh, pardon me, but I must hurry along. I must get ready to receive a guest coming from Germany. Well, if you will excuse me, Senior Investigator Mado. Let's go, Furuta." Kijima said as he looked back at the man who simply followed behind him.

'Items: Haise Sasaki and Mira Hisaki are to be treated as humans. Item: When he goes out of control and it becomes unavoidable, he is to be treated as a ghoul and expelled, as well as Hisaki if she turns on us.' Akira thought as she stopped walking and looked out of the window, 'What a cruel set of instructions.

Mira slowly woke up, she saw white and groaned as she sat up.

"Where am I?" She asked as she looked around the room and saw the IVs in her arm.

'In the hospital...'

"Just great." She muttered as she clutched her abdomen.

"You're awake, good." The doctor said as he walked in.

"What happened?" Mira groggily asked.

"You had a deep cut on your side from when Orochi attacked you, then a deep hole in your stomach from when you tried to confront investigator Sasaki, which was a really stupid thing to do."

Mira sighed.

"But we did a blood transfusion and stitched you up, you should be fine, your legs are a little bruised up, so walking for Yiu will be a pain."

Mira nodded her head.

"Okay, we'll if you want, you can leave today."

"Yes, I would like that."

'Okay then, let me get your release forms ready, be right back." He said as he left the room.

Mira looked down at her hands before she moved the blanket off of her only to see both of her legs covered in bandages, when she swung her feet over the bed to sit up she gritted her teeth in pain.

"Little bruise my ass." Mira muttered as she slowly got up and striped the hospital rob off before putting her clothes back on, she looked at her abdomen, which was covered in bandages along with her forehead. The doctor then came back in.

"Okay, Investigator Mado gave you the clear, you're free to go."

Mira thanked him as she walked out heading home.

Haise slapped Urie right across the face.

"Even if it costs one's arms and legs, a ghoul investigator...escapes!" Haise said as the room was quite.

"Was the mistake worthy of a slap?" Urie asked.

"What good is it for the squad captain to expose the squad to danger?"

"It's dangerous to turn your back on the enemy." Urie said boardly.

"If you had confronted him head-on, you'd have been killed. As long as you remain alive, you can have many more chances. Once you make your life, there's nothing more that can be done! Urie, I'm removing you as the Quinx Squad's captain." Haise said as Mutsuki and Shirazu gasped in surprise.

"I find that hard to accept." Urie said.

"Superiors orders."

"You're just another ghoul." Urie said as Haise's eyes widened. Mutsuki stood up as Shirazu ran forward and kicked him in the stomach, knocking him down.

"Urie! Mr. Sass risked his life to save us!" Shirazu said as he lifted him up by his shirt, "You're a piece of crap that's worse then a ghoul! I should kill you right here!"

"Go ahead and try."

"Urie..." Mutsuki spoke as the two looked at him, "I want you to apologize to teach."

'Good-for-nothing hypocrites.' Urie thought.

"Shirazu, let him go." Haise said as Shirazu let him go, "Whatever Urie wants to say, his dismissal is final. The new captain as also already been choosen. The new captain is...3rd rank investigator Ginshi Shirazu." Haise said as he pointed at Shirazu who was surprised.

"Huh?"

"Eh!"

"Huh? Me?! H-H-Hold on a second, Mr.Sass! This is a job for someone who has smarts!"

"I think that a squad captain should be someone who acts for the teams sake." Haise said as he walked over and lightly punched Urie's arm, "If you get too defiant, I'll devour you." Haise said as he walked away, "That is, if I'm a ghoul, like you say."

"Hey, Urie..." Shirazu said as he stepped forward, only to stop once they heard an annoying scream. That being Saiko. Mira stood infront of Haise's path.

"Did I miss something important?" The ravenette joked. Haise's eyes widened as he looked her up and down, she wore tan shorts, her legs were covered in bandages. She wore a black tank top with black shoes while her black hair was in a bun, the bandages still wrapped around her forehead.

"Hisaki..." Haise whispered.

"Jeez, you acted like I died. I'm fine ya know."

Haise smiled lightly as he patted her head.

"I know, but you're still injured, so you'll stay here today under the squads care."

"Got it." Mira smiled as Haise left. Mira sighed as she walked into the room and the three boys turned to see her.

"Hisaki!" Shirazu and Mutsuki yelled as they saw their mentor. It was surprising to see her in comfortable clothes.

"Are you supposed to be here?" Mutsuki asked worriedly.

"Huh? Oh, yeah, I'm perfectly fine, don't worry about me." She said as the two sighed, "Just a heads up though, Haise said that I'm in your care since I'm still injured. So don't screw up."

"Yes, ma'am!" Shirazu said.

"Of course well take care of you." Mutsuki said as Urie still said nothing, Mira smiled at the squad.

It was later in the day and Mira was laying down on the couch, reading a book, with her glasses on, she sighed as she pushed her glasses up and stared at Urie who's at across from her. All of the sudden Shirazu walked in and threw a can of soda at Urie, who caught jt, he walked over and handed Mira hers, she thanked him as he looked at Urie.

"I'm just here because Tooru insisted."

Mira flipped through her book as Mutsuki sat by her feet, she looked up and smiled lightly as she sat up and pushed her glasses up.

"What book are you reading?" Mutsuki asked.

"Hmmm? Oh, it's called Black Goats Egg, it's by Sen Takatsuki."

"Oh."

Mira laughed, "I used to read her books all the time back when I went to Kami, but I've never had time now that I work for the CCG."

"You went to Kami."

"There's alot you don't know about me."

"Really?" Shirazu asked as be butted into the conversation.

"Yes. Like I had an older brother named Hioko. I was also a major jerk back then." Mira chuckled lightly, none of them questioning about her brother. Mira fiddled with the ring on her finger as she stared at it longily.

"Hisaki...who gave you the ring?Shirazu asked, Mira stiffened as her eyes slightly widened.

"Ginshi..." Mutsuki said.

"Idiot." Urie mumbled as Shirazu freaked out.

"I didn't mean to upset you! I'm sorry! I was just curious!"

"It's okay." Mira spoke as he stopped, "Someone...very important to me...gave me this ring, but he's gone now...so it's just to remember him."

The three looked at her as she sighed and her phone vibrated, it was a text from Haise who told her he was coming back later." Mira put her phone back as she stood up and stretched, she folded up her glasses and bowed.

"It all be going to bed now, good night." And with that she walked upstairs.

"Good going." Urie said bluntly.

"I didn't know!" Shirazu said defensively.

"Senior Investigator Shimoguchi..." Akira said as she and Haise stood by his hospital bed, "It's too bad about your men." Akira said as Shimoguchi said nothing as he looked out the window, "I'm sorry to do this, but I'd like you to tell us what happened that day."

"You want your kugane beefed-up?" Doctor Ryotaro Shiba asked as he looked back at Urie.

"Yes."

"You want to be more like 1st rank Sasaki?" Shiba said as he sighed and turned around, "Perhaps I should explain to you the way your bodies work again." He said as he pulled up a diagram, showing a red area on the body, "Quinxes were an idea that came about thanks to half-ghoul 1st rank Sasaki's physical condition. A kakuho is taken from a ghoul and implanted within your body." He explained as he showed a diagram of five frames,  "And five stages of Frames are set up. Right now, you are set at Frame 2. Your kakuho is operating at 40% capacity."

"In other words, if we raise my Frame level, I'll be able to use a more powerful kugane, right?" Urie asked boardly.

"I wouldn't recommend it."

'Too late to say that now.' Urie thought as he looked down.

"Please do so, Dr.Shiba."

Shiba turned around to see Urie bowing his head, he grunted as he looked at the screen before turning back to look at him and handed him a paper, Urie took it as he looked up.

"Go get the chief and your mentors permission, please."

'Don't go playing the moralist now, old man.' Urie thought as he stared at him.

"Rabbit, huh?" Haise asked as he sat next to Akira as she drove down to road.

"Yeah. My father was done in by him and Fueguchi."

"Senior Investigator Kureo Mado...I heard from Arima that he was an excellent investigator. And that he also learned how to handle a quinque from him." Haise said as he smiled lightly at Akria.

"Assuming that Torso is affiliated with Aogiri, this case will be taken out of our hands." Akira said as she changed the subject, "It will be taken over by someone in S1 through S3."

"I wonder if Shimoguchi is okay."

"He was the only one to survive, after all. That's a bitter pill--" Akira said as Haise stared at her, "Losing someone that you've spent some time with.

Urie finished putting Sasaki's and Hisaki's stamp on his paper when someone opened the door, causing him to look up. Shirazu threw himself into the couch.

"Sheesh, how are we supposed to live with this?!"

Urie opened the door to see Shirazu and Mutsuki.

"What's going on?"

"The Quinx Squad has been pulled off of the Torso investigation." Mutsuki said as Urie walked up and Shirazu threw his hand up lazily.

"Heh, they say there's a possibility that he's a Memeber of Aogiri Tree now." Shirazu said.

"What can we do? S1 through S3 are in charge of Aogiri matters." Urie said.

"Yeah but after we ran him down as far as we did?" Shirazu asked.

"If this is Aogiri we're talking about, we have no choice. You know how many casualties there were with Aogiri two years ago, don't you?" Urie said.

"He's right, Aogiri is not to be messed with." Mira said as she walked in while reading a book, "They're highly dangerous, and hard to beat. Tell me, have you ever faxed and Aogiri ghoul?"

"Well, um..." Shirazu started but stopped once they heard the fridge open, Saiko was rummaging through it.

"Hey, Saiko!" Shirazu said.

The short blue haired female jumped slightly and started to sweat.

"Don't tell me you're..." Shirazu started as she closed the door and turned around, and in her hand was a whole ham, "...taking the ham all for yourself." Shirazu finished as an irk mark appeared on Mira's head as she stared at 3rd rank investigator Saiko Yonebayashi.

"Ho! Crispy and juicy!" Saiko yelled as she ran upstairs.

"Ugh..." Shirazu groaned.

"That was for dinner you damn brat!" Mira yelled as Mutsuki held her arm.

"Calm down teach!"

"So, what's the subject of our next investigation?" Urie asked as Mira stopped raging.

"Hmmm?" Shirazu asked as he turned around, "Oh, someone called, 'Nutcracker'."

"Good luck with that. I'm heading upstairs." Mira said as she left the three and walked upstairs and into her room. Mira's room was plain, white walls with a desk in the corner which was neatly organized. Her bed was covered in a dark blue blanket and handling from her wall were several pictures of her and Hide, and there was one of her and Hioko on her 10th birthday. Mira smiled softly as she felt her phone vibrat, only to see a text from Haise she sighed as she texted back.

"Mr.Sass. Where is the Shirazu's squad next target, Nutcracker?" Shirazu asked into his earpiece as he wore glasses as Mutsuki was behind him. Shirazu was surprised as his glasses were taken off, "I thought I'd start by looking the part." Shirazu said as Mutsuki smiled while Mira twirled his glasses on her finger as she laughed lightly, while Haise smiled.

"Nutcracker. Operates in the red light district." Haise started as they walked over a bridge, "Her rating is still under review."

"Why 'Nutcracker,' exactly?" Mutsuki asked as Mira placed her hand on her mouth as she looked away

"She apparently has a thing for smashing the testicle of men." Haise explained.

"That...sounds paniful." Mutsuki said.

"By the way, Captain Shirazu..." Haise said as he stopped walking and turned around, "...where are Urie and Saiko?"

"Prince Urie said he wasn't feeling well, so he went to see Dr. Shiba." Shirazu said as Haise became worried, "Apparently something is off with his Frame, so he may be laid up in the hospital for a few days." Shirazu said as Haise sighed and looked down.

"That's something you should report right away." Haise said.

"Sorry."

Haise then looked back and they continued to walk.

"What about Saiko?" Mira asked.

"We tried to wake her, but there was no answer. Her room was locked too." Mutsuki said.

"I hope she didn't die of ham poisoning." Shirazu mumbled.

"Ham?" Haise asked as he sniffed the air and stopped.

"Well, well, I have a very promising feeling about this!"

"Teach?" Mutsuki asked.

"Oh, nothing. Let's stop in for tea time, okay?" Haise said as they looked at the coffee shop. Mira's eyes widened as images of a burning Anteiku went through her mind.

'Re...it reminds me of Anteiku...dammit.'

"-ra, Mira?"

Mira looked up to see Haise with a worried expression.

"You okay?"

"I'm fine." Mira smiled as he nodded his head and they walked into the café.

"Oh, that aroma!" Haise said before he closed his eyes and smiled as he held a finger up, "This place definitely serves delicious coffee!"

'Old man...' Mira thought as she looked down and smiled softly.

"My 'nasal kugane' is whispering it to me!"

"Mr.Sass sure is keyed up over this." Shirazu said. A man with white shoulder length hair was behind the counter as he cleaned a cup.

"He told me his hobby is going around to delicious coffee shops." Mutsuki said.

"Sounds like him." Mira giggled.

"Ah..." Shirazu said as they looked around Mira was still next to Haise as she talked to Mutsuki and Shirazu, while Haise looked at the man, who looked over at them.

"Hey, brother, how many times have I told you, when costumers come in, serve them--" A female voice said as Haise looked away, Mira too caught up in her conversation to notice. Haise started at the purple haired female as his eyes slightly widened.

Urie was put to sleep as he wen through surgery.

Mira sat across from Haise as she talked with Shirazu, a cup of coffee wad set infront of her and she took the cup as she took a sip, along with Haise.

"Huh...? That flavour..." Haise trailed off.

Mira hummed softly as she drank her coffee. It reminded her of the coffee at Anteiku, her eyes clouded with tears as she slowly turned around. Her eyes widened as she saw a purple haired female, smiling softly, a tear had escaped Haise's eye as Mira's eyes widened and her mouth was slightly agape as tears ran down her cheeks.

"Touka..." She whispered.
