Chapter - 28
"Why Olaf?" Sanskar finally asked keeping his eyes on road. They both were driving back to city.
"Just leave it."
"Nope you have to tell me." He became dominant as usual.
"You always prefer to keep low temperature in our room. It's always freezing cold over there." She rolled her eyes.
Somewhere his heart noted her mention of 'our room.'
He was driving stealing glances of her serene face which had small smile.
"Bye. See you tomorrow" Swara removed her seatbelt as he stopped car near her apartment.
"Did you change the caller ID?" he threw glare.
"Olaf... Please no."
"But then what should I put to save your contact?"
"Ohh Jesus... you still need introduction? Don't you know my name?"
"Of course, I know. But I stay with my roommates. My workdays are busy with my colleagues. One of my roommates works in our office."
She pressed her lips to supress her chuckle seeing his grumpy face.
"What will happen if anyone sees your name on my phone? And don't forget you have huge girl fan following in our office."
"Are you jealous?"
"I am your on-paper wife not the real one so don't have high hopes."
Her reply earned small chuckle on his face.
"Bye good night" she waved her hand and got down.
Good night"
Swara stood there till his car crossed the main gate.
"Who was it?"
Ayesha's voice from back jerked Swara in her place.
Her mind started it run to find suitable answer.
"Black Porsche? Was it Brittany?"
"Why Brittany?"
"You only told me Brittany has black Porsche. But where did you meet her?" Ayesha's scrutinising gaze increased Swara's nervousness.
"Actually, I was with Radhika Aunty in Eaten Center Mall and there I met Brittany. She offered to drop me." Swara covered not meeting her eyes with her.
"Ohh ok"
They both walked back to elevators.
"Swara, I don't want to interfere in your personal life, but you can consider me as your friend if you want to share anything."
"Ayesha, you are my very good friend. There is nothing like anything to share."
"You know what Rupali's parents are going to come here for two months. And they are going to stay with us. We would need to adjust a lot."
"It's ok Ayesha. We will manage."
"Her mother is kind of narrow minded. So, a big headache."
"Don't say that ok" and they both entered inside their apartment.
Next day, as usual Swara entered Sanskar's cabin for their daily updates.
She saw Sanskar rubbing his forehead with closed eyes.
"Are you ok?"
"I have terrible headache." He recognised her presence even without opening his eyes.
"Were you working till late night?"
"Yes, I had to finish couple of legal document's review. Then there were back-to-back meetings. I slept early morning."
"Then why did you come to office? You should have taken rest."
"No Swara, there is board meeting."
"But Sanskar you are not well."
His name in her voice brought small smile on his face and he opened his eyes to look at her.
"No, I will be fine. I will just take painkiller."
"Painkiller. Why don't you take some rest? Or ask Mike to get your black coffee."
Sanskar looked at her, 'how come she knows that I drink coffee when I have headache?'
"Of course, I know. I have seen you drinking coffee back-to-back."
"I don't want that coffee. Mike makes terrible coffee." He kept his head on headrest closing his eyes.
Swara chuckled looking at his grumpy face.
"Swara" he called not finding her presence around him.
"Here you go." She kept freshly brewed dark coffee on his desk
"You make the best coffee" he smelled before taking first sip.
"It's hot"
"Nope it's best."
"Ok. Regarding updates, I have made changes to paneling's, but it is creating issues for..." she was interrupted.
"It's ok. Let's discuss this tomorrow." He was enjoying his coffee.
"Am I dreaming? Sanskar Maheshwari is escaping from work."
They both talked for long and for the first time, it was not related anything to their professional life.
It was Friday, "Where are you going?" Rupali's mother asked to Swara.
They had reached two days back. She saw Swara pulling over small pull over as it was Friday.
"Aunty every Friday, I go to meet my relatives who stay in other city." She explained about her weekend arrangement which instantly made her entry in Rupali's mother's favourite list.
"Look at her Rupali, even though she is not married, how much she is concern about her in laws. Learn something from her."
Swara heard her words while stepping out.
After dinner, Swara was with Granny, whereas Sanskar was going out of the room for his late-night meetings.
"Granny, it's been long time we have watched any movie. I love to watch movies especially Disney movies." Her glittering eyes were fixed on Sanskar.
Hearing her words, he started to pack his stuff in hurry to escape from upcoming torcher.
"Yes, you are right. Let's watch some movie. Which one do you want?"
"Any one Granny" she was in her teasing mode.
"Let's watch Frozen. It's my favourite."
"Mine too" her words earned a death glare from Sanskar. He was speedily going out of the room.
"Where are you going Sanskar?" he closed his eyes crying on his own fate.
"Come join us. It will be fun. I will ask Julia to make popcorns for both of you and I will have some fruits. It's movie time now."
"Granny I have meetings to join." He tried to escape.
"You don't love your Granny now a days. It's only Swara who loves me." Granny pulled Swara in a side hug.
It was hard for Swara to control her laughter looking at his extremely irritated face.
"It's not that Granny" but he gave up and sat beside his stubborn grand mother and wife to watch movie.
'I will not leave you for this Frozen' Swara's mobile beeped with message.
She read message and looked at her husband with pressed lips.
'Oops Olaf is oozing out with fire. Careful! Else fire will melt you.'
'Again Olaf? Do I look like him? Look at him, he is so annoying'
'No... Olaf is cute. In fact, cutest'
'So, you find me cute?'
'When did I said that?'
'Check your earlier message. You called me Olaf and the. said Olaf is the cutest.'
Swara realised the blunder she did just now. She raised her eyes to look at him who was passing challenging glare to her.
Her cheeks enriched with cherry red colour.
"If you want to do romance then go to your room. Don't disturb me while watching movie." Granny had already observed their message and eye exchanges.
Next day, Granny had asked Julia to take out old albums. She was showing Sanskar's childhood memories to Swara.
She turned one picture. For any outsider it was perfect family picture, but reality was exact opposite.
Swara observed remorse on Granny's face, it did not take many efforts for Swara to connect dots. It was picture of young Sanskar with his parents and grandparents.
"This was taken when Sanskar turned 8. We had party at our home. Me and your Dadu always used to celebrate his birthday but after that dreadful day everything turned upside down."
"Granny please" Swara held her palm.
"No Swara, on his every birthday, Sanskar close himself in his shell. From childhood, he doesn't even come out of his room on this day. He... he hates it if anyone wishes him happy birthday. Because... he... you... I don't know how I should?"
"I know everything Granny. He told me everything."
"Sanskar told you everything?" Granny repeated but it was more like a question laced with amazement.
"Yes Granny." Her eyes filled with tears.
"Do you know the meaning of this Swara?" Granny was dumbfounding with revelations.
"This means he trusts you more than he trusts anybody in the world. Sanskar had never ever opened in front of anyone. Not even in front of me. You have become so important for him."
Swara felt shiver hearing Granny's words. Her cheeks warmed up, but her mind was clustered with confusion.
'Am I really important for him?'
'But why?'
"I always thank my Kanhaji to bring you in Sanskar' s life. This is time for him to live his life peacefully. Even today, he gets nightmare of that horrifying night. Just be with him always. Never leave his hand. This is my last and only wish." Granny caressed her cheeks with moist eye.
"Those wolfs are ready to pounce on him to hurt him. To break him but you need to become his strength. Promise me you will be with him as his heartbeat." She raised her palm.
"Promise me Swara" Granny seconded when she observed Swara blankly staring at her palm.
"Promise Granny."
Granny's lips stretched in bright smile. She pulled Swara in bear hug.
'Hey Kanhaji, now I am relived my Swara will be there to take care of Sanskar. I don't want anything now. I am ready for your call. Please keep your blessings on my children. Keep them happy and together always.' Granny looked upwards with satisfied smile.
'Will she really be with me?' just a thought flooded his heart with unknown feelings. He had heard his Granny's words.
'No Granny, this is just a façade. Just four more months and then she will go her way and I will go my way.' Covering his unsettled mind with this thought he concentrated on his work.
"Swara Mehra, Indian immigrant working in Karma Constructions as Architect. She joined some 7-8 months back. She directly works with Sanskar." Siddhant mentioned taking sip from his drink.
"Just working with him?" Serena repeated.
"Yes, that's what my source informed about her."
"No. This is just a bandage to cover."
"How can you say this?" He asked when she voiced out his inner gut feelings.
"I know Sanskar. He is least bother about anyone, but he goes in his over possessive mode for his loved ones."
"How can you say that? He was never possessive about you, my baby?" Siddhant ridiculed while tracing his finger over her cheeks.
"Shut up" her ego got deep scar, "Find out about her everything."
'If Sanskar is ignoring me because of that girl then I need to take care of her.'
'You were never the one who ruled over Sanskar's heart and mind. She should be someone special. I can target this new weak link.' Siddhant gulped his drink in one go.
It's been almost 3 weeks, Swara was with her collogues having her lunch in office cafeteria when her phone started vibrating.
It flashed 'Olaf Calling'.
'Why is he calling me at this hour? He never calls me during odd hours.' She went to corner excusing her friends.
"San..."
"Come to my cabin immediately."
"Sanskar what happened?"
"Swara please... now"
"Ok. Give me two minutes."
'What happened to him?'
"Hey girls, I need to pack up. There is important meeting is going on and Brittany wants me to join it ASAP." She gave excuse.
She ran towards elevators.
Without even asking for his permission, she entered in his cabin when she heard him talking over the call. "Julia, me and Swara will be there with in an hour. Call 911. I have already called Dr. Rickson he would be reaching out there any moment."
"Is Granny, ok?" it did not take much time for Swara to understand catastrophe.
He nodded his head in denial.
"Sanskar what happened tell me?"
"Granny again become unconscious like last time." he was shivering with fear.
She went towards his desk to get water glass.
"Sanskar sit down."
"No, we need to leave."
"Sanskar I know we need to leave. But you need to calm down first."
"I need to be with Granny. She is alone there."
"I know Sanskar but right now we need to maintain our sanity. You are shivering."
She forcefully made him sit on nearby couch.
"She will be fine right?" he asked her innocently.
"hmm" she nodded her head but, in her heart, she knew what is coming on their way.
She closed her eyes. She knew she needed to stay strong to hold him.
"Say please say. She will be alright. Last time you said, and she became fine."
"She will be alright Sanskar." She whispered helplessly.
"Are you sure she will be fine?" he cupped her face in his both hands trying to find truth for her words in her eyes.
"hmm" tears started rolling over her cheeks.
He kept his forehead on her's.
"Please do something." He pleaded.
Swara pulled him in her embrace. He held her close to his heart crushing her petite figure in his arms burring his head in the crook of her neck.
They both cried their hearts out.
"Sanskar, we need to be with Granny." Swara broke their hug after some time.
She wiped his tears.
"We have to stay strong. You must stay strong. We need to give peaceful and happy departure to Granny. She will be turmoiled if she sees you like this."
'I... I ... I can't do it.'
"I am with as always. We will do it together." She stared deep in his eyes.
He pulled her again his embrace.
'Please be with me Swara. Don't leave me alone.'
"Never" she mumbled against his shoulder while caressing his back in assurance.
